Greetings YahooGroups Members and fellow singers!

Well.... We were shocked when we heard the name "The Perfect Gentlemen" as
the 2001 Far Western District SoCal West Quartet Champions, but we were also
very excited and extremely thankful!  What a great weekend it was in Santa
Barbara, California!

We wish to extend very special thanks to BRENT ANDERSON and the PACIFIC SOUND
CHORUS for hosting the contest, which was held at Santa Barbara Junior High
School on May 5th.
What an excellent job of hosting they did and we appreciate the gracious
hospitality they extended not only to The Perfect Gentlemen, but to all the
quartets and choruses who competed on Saturday!  OUTSTANDING JOB!
We would also like to thank our "quartet" hostess... "Shauna", who was very
pleasant, professional, courteous and lead us in the right direction !  THANK
YOU! (If anyone from PACIFIC SOUND reads this, please extend our thanks to
SHAUNA!)

We are looking forward to the Far Western District Competition up in
Bakersfield, CA in October and  hope to see a lot of our fellow
barbershoppers up there as well.

To Contact Us: Please visit our website at:
http://perfectgentlemen.homestead.com
The CONTACT "link" is at the very top of the web page, but please feel free
to sign our guest book near the bottom of the page, too!

I'm attaching the quartet score sheet (as a JPG) if you wish to download it
and take a look.

Again...THANK YOU and we hope to see all of you again very soon!

Howdy all!

In case you haven't heard, after nine years, The MATZ is
finally breaking up this Summer. That means that this
weekend has some of your last chances to hear The MATZ sing.

We will be singing in Old Town Pasadena this Friday night,
starting at about 7:15. If you haven't seen us busking
before, now's your chance!

We will be singing at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los
Angeles this Sunday morning, which is technically next week.
We aren't very technical. Let me know if want more info or directions.

There is at least one more church gig on a Sunday morning
between now and July 1, but the details are being hammered out.

Our BIG sendoff is the Third Annual Farewell concert, which
will also be our Series Finale. That will take place at
7:30pm on Saturday, June 2nd, here in Pasadena, at a little
oddly shaped building at the corner of Union and North
Oakland (the address is 90 North Oakland). I'll send you
more precise information next week, but mark your calanders now.

Howdy everyone!

Just your last reminder that The MATZ is holding our
lost-our-lease, going-out-of-business, that's-a-wrap
concert this Saturday night at 90 North Oakland, in
Pasadena. That's at the north-east corner of Union
and North Oakland for those who don't know the area
well.

The MATZ is just over nine years old, but so many of
our members are leaving at once that it seemed better
to call it quits. Besides, we're down to our last
three checks.

C'mon out and see us close up shop with a bang.

Howdy everyone!

In case you missed our VERY LAST show ever, here are some
pictures. Patrick is wailing on "Gimme Some Lovin'" in one,
and the next is a quick photo with all the past and present
members who had come. Current members are all dressed in
black, and alumna are those who apparently didn't get the
memo. Both video cameras cut out on the last song, but we
were very glad that the still camera caught the emotional
encore of our final song "The Lord Bless You and Keep You".

We had a rousing good time, and we're all glad we had such a
nice turnout for our 9-year anniversary, and our third (and
final) farewell performance.

I don't imagine that I'll be using this email list again,
but I won't delete it right away. If you would like a
program from our final show, I'd be glad to send you a copy.
I'm digging up addresses of all former members, and I'll
send them copies anyway, so if you're an alum who didn't
show, expect mail from me over the summer!

The website www.thematz.com will be up for, I hope, at
least three years, or until our rights to the domain name
expire, or something like that.

If you have any questions, or submissions, or would just
like to give a eulogy, feel free to contact me.

Thanks to Fuller for the use of rehearsal space free of
charge. Thanks to you all for your support at all our shows.
Thank you, and good night.

Here's the recent news about my music and about my Feldenkrais practice.

My Music

This month I've added two new features to my music page at mp3.com. First, There is now an audio welcome message from me. Just click on one of the links near the top of the page (under the "HELLO" that changes colors) to hear my message. http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkVocalQuintet

Second, you can now buy my CD "Live at Saint Peter's" with your Mastercard or Visa through PayPal. Or if you prefer, just click on the following link:

Here is an excerpt from a new testimonial by a recent buyer of "Live at Saint Peter's":

"This is not the usual scat thing.." -Delilah

Here's a short review from the first issue of the eSoundz Reporter:

"The inspired works of the John Link Vocal Quintet captivate an audience from the very first note. The mastery of the combined classical/jazz influence, rendered by guitar and voice, makes its presence felt in their release of Live at Saint Peter's."

If you're already enjoying "Live at Saint Peter's", then please tell your friends about it and how to buy their own copies. If you haven't yet bought your copy, you are in for a treat! Click here to find out more and to hear selections from the CD: http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkVocalQuintet.

My Feldenkrais Practice

Besides being a musician, I'm also a teacher of the Feldenkrais Method, teaching groups in classes and individuals privately. My clients come to me for help with a variety of issues, including but not limited to the following:

        Repetitive stress injuries
        Difficulty breathing
        Chronic pain
        Headaches
        Backaches

As many of you already know,  another wonderful  person, performer, showman
and all around entertainer, Ron Browne lost his battle with cancer last week.
Family and friends gathered for his memorial service today (Saturday, June
16th)  at the First Presbyterian Church in Anaheim, California today.  Of
course, A Cappella music was a good part of the service as Ron was an avid
enthusiast! The Dapper Dans of Disneyland sang the great barbershop standard
"Shine on Me"
.
The Take 6 vocal jazz arrangement of "A Quiet Place" was sung,  as well as
"How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place"
from Ein Deutsches Requiem.

We are truly saddened by his loss as we shall miss him dearly.  He was a
great inspiration to so many singers and his memory will live on in the joy
and enthusiasm of singing!!

Hi all-- just a quick note, I set up that Live365 station to promote fun
contemporary a cappella tunes and will be adding more tracks and updating
the play list in about two weeks. Right now you'll hear maybe 15% The Bobs,
15% Rockapella and the remaining 70% just a LOT of assorted talented groups.

I'd also love to program more groups who may not be getting the kind of
exposure they deserve so I wanted to extend an offer to everyone on this
list: if you send me a CD of your group, I'll get some of your tracks on the
playlist for the world to enjoy. (The CD doesn't need to be professionally
pressed; you can burn the disc yourself, but it's important that I receive
the songs on CD-- no cassettes!) My address is Eric Mueller, 8581 Santa
Monica Bl. #477, Los Angeles, CA 90069-4120.

Hope you enjoy the station!

best,
Eric (former tenor/baritone, "Press Any Key," Berkeley, CA)

Music Producer Bruce Cooke is looking for about 4 or 5
young (18-21) singers to join The Rock Island Boys.
This group will be doing original songs about surfing,
summer fun and California. Kind of like a modern day
Beach Boys group. If you have a good 'stage presence'
and are very, very, very serious about possibly doing
music as a career, please send an email to Bruce at therockislandboys@...
