Voxel Rox, a Contemporary A cappella League (CAL) group wants to
grow; arrangements from old-school funk to modern alt-rock.

Are you a singer who likes to ...

* make percussive noises in a groove,
* scream like a trumpet, or guitar,
* vocally jam like an instrumental solo,
* work together to make a sound bigger than a sum of individuals?

Do you like Tower of Power, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Talking Heads?

Do you like making social statements? (After all, we are based in
Venice! Though, we have members from all over greater LA.)

Then, we are looking for you to join this Contemporary A Cappella
League group. The league supports bands roughly the size of typical
collegiate a cappella groups, 8-20. And we want more members to
support our voice parts and get to the power we desire. Looking for
talented VP/beatboxing or rhythmic singers to help us lay down a
groove to get people up and dancing, heart-felt performances from our
leads and soaring backups.

The league ( http://www.casa.org/league ) is only one year old, and
we are growing an international presence. Our first gathering in
Memphis this past summer headlined Take 6. ( http://
vocalsymplosium.com ) The next will be in Boston Aug. 1-2.

Please visit http://www.marinamotion/vox/faq for more about the group.

For more information, or to arrange an audition, please email a reply
or give Bart a call at 310-717-1609 .

Finally, we are also looking for an assistant to help in recruiting
and development. If interested, please let me know.

Thanks,

Bart

Mixed semi-pro vocal group is looking for male singer(s).

There are four of us now (2 guys & 2 gals)... we just need one more
guy to complete us. We're not kids - we all have day jobs but we're
extremely dedicated to this - to the sound and to the performance.

What we're looking for (besides a great singer) is: Vocal percussion
experience (OR willingness to learn) and SERIOUS COMMITMENT... you
must be available for weekly rehearsals plus a couple gigs a month.

It has not escaped our notice that, to your knowledge, there is no
proof that Sonos actually exist. You may have heard a lot about this
vocal group over the past few weeks, especially from our friends at
KCRW. But who's to say we are real?

We are. We do. We think. Please come to the "I sing, therefore I am"
concert. You'll get vocal reinterpretations of Bjork, Rufus
Wainwright, Sara Bareilles, Imogen Heap, Fleet Foxes and more. Plus,
a holiday treat that we're giving away for free...

Tickets are $8, Hotel Cafe is 21+

Saturday Dec 20 @ 11PM

The Hotel Cafe
1623 1/2 N. Cahuenga Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90028

SONOS – a new LA-based alternative vocal group – produces a unique
sound that blurs the genre line, garnering them fans from
alternative, mainstream and vocal music worlds alike. Rachel Bearer,
Christopher Given Harrison, Katharine Anne Hoye, Ben McLain Paul
Peglar and Jessica Rae make up this intriguing collective. Each of
the members resonates with their own unique vocal style, evidenced on
stunning reinterpretations of less than obvious material.

Looking for people who:
(and, you don't need to meet all criteria)

1. love a variety of different eras and styles of music
2. have a sense of humor (not afraid of looking uncool)
3. compose their own lyrics and melodies
4. know that showing off your vocal skills is not enough
5. have some experience working with bands with instruments
6. will work with others who don't require sheet music

My goal is to eventually work up enough material that we might do
performances, and maybe compile some albums.

Intrigued?
I elaborate on all of these points in our FILES section of our group.
Log in and click 'files' on the left and look for a post called
"RevSpikeBeasley Group Details", or write to me and I'll send it to
you. Or write to me and we can talk via phone.

COLLEGIATE A CAPPELLA ARRANGERS

Ben Folds has just launched a contest. In his words: "I'm making an
album of a cappella versions of my music to be performed by the best
university groups we can find. This idea was motivated by a number of
amazing university a cappella versions of my songs I came across on
YouTube. Some of these brought to light unique nuances and perspective
that is necessarily absent from the original recordings as the
songwriter and singer happen to be the same guy. I was moved and
inspired. Some of these versions were an improvement in my humble
opinion and it would be a great opportunity to capture some of this."
Ben Folds wants 12 or so tracks from collegiate groups, submitted via
YouTube. And if you make the cut, he's going to send one of his
producers to help you record a Ben Folds tune. WOW!
Note: The deadline is November 14th. More info:

Are you a trained singer, but haven't really had much of an
opportunity to show the world your gift? Our vocal group is ready to
perform, we just need a few more singers to round out our sound.
Please read the ad below, if you feel you fit what we're looking for,
please respond right away!

New Los Angeles based A Cappella group is looking for a Bass and an
Alto/Second Soprano!!!! We have four singers already, we're wanting to
expand to six.

The qualities we're looking for in these singers include-

Bass
*Must be able to read music!
*Have a good, strong, low vocal range.
*Must be comfortable with walking bass lines, and enjoy singing them,
and other typical bass lines on a regular basis
*Huge plus if you can mix vocal percussion in with your grooves.

Alto/Second Soprano:
*Must be able to read music!
*The lower the notes you can hit, the better!
*Must be very comfortable singing solos as well as complex background
harmony parts.
*Huge plus if you have experience doing vocal percussion. (Female
drummers rock!!!)

Special note for Basses: Having the role of Bass, you will primarily
be part of the background vocals, and a lot of time you will
contribute to the 'rhythm section' for the group, but solo
opportunities will be given if desired. While you mostly will be in
the background (as far as the music is concerned), we are still
looking for a bass that can really stand out and give the audience a
great show, we want you to be able to turn those low, rumbling, and
sometimes repetitive, grooves into something exciting to listen to!

The current line-up of the group is between the ages of 20-26 years
old. We are having a lot of fun together and have been working hard,
learning songs in many different styles. The current repertoire
consists of published arrangements, original arrangements and even
original songs from members of the group. Also, we plan to do some
Christmas repertoire during the Holiday Season.

Unfortunately, there will not be any pay right away, but as we get
more known we will get paid gigs.

We will be rehearsing on Wednesday night, in Sherman Oaks from 7-9pm.
We would like ideal candidates to try singing with us during that next
rehearsal. Please email Nate George at jazzsinger1482@..., or
call him at 831-588-9482 and tell him about yourself, why you would be
perfect for this group and he will Let you know when and where we'll
be holding auditions.

On behalf of Bruin Harmony, I would like to invite you to the first
annual Los Angeles A Cappella Festival (LA/AF). Situated on the
beautiful UCLA campus, this all-day event will include classes,
panels, and coaching sessions facilitated by Deke Sharon, The House
Jacks, and other top professionals in the vocal music industry.

Classes will begin on Saturday morning January 31, 2009 and continue
throughout the day with a break for lunch and an exhibition by
collegiate a cappella groups from around the nation. The festival will
culminate in an evening concert by vocal band, The House Jacks and
L.A.'s own Vybration for an audience of nearly 1500.

The Los Angeles A Cappella Festival will offer extraordinary
networking opportunities between a cappella groups from across the
country, in addition to providing attendees the chance to meet and
work with talented, experienced teachers. We've carefully selected a
wide range of course topics that will appeal to leaders and members
alike, including recording, solo delivery, and songwriting/arranging.

Individual passes for the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival are
available now for only $36, and if you register at least eight members
of your group, each member will receive a 30% discount. Your group
will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the best in the
industry for only $25 per person! We've also decided to include the
admission to the evening concert in the festival package, a $20 per
person value!

Registration has already begun and is limited, so be sure to reserve
your place now at www.LA-AF.com. We look forward to seeing lots of you
this year at the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival.

(This is an update to a message I recently posted.)

I'm an experienced amateur singer looking to put together a
performance-oriented vocal jazz quintet (but not limited to jazz -
anything we like that sounds good is fair game). We now have an SATB
quartet; we would like to add a mezzo. If you're interested, email me
with your range; the evenings you're available to rehearse(I'm
planning to rehearse once a week in Santa Monica, but if you want to
host rehearsals, I'll consider a different location); and a bit about
your musical background.

It isn't necessary that you sightread perfectly (I don't!), but I
expect you to be able to take sheet music home and learn it relatively
rapidly. I want to build up a repertoire and perform. It goes without
saying that you must be able to commit to regular, reliable
attendance, and that you must be able to hold your pitch accurately
against other singers. There will be an audition.

If you're interested, or would like more information, please email me.

Thanks,

David
