Local mixed sextet Red Harmony is looking for an Alto!

Our new member would ideally possess the following:
* Experience singing complex vocal harmonies, one on a part.
* Experience singing solos in many different styles of music (most importantly,
pop and jazz).
* Experience performing vocal percussion lines is a plus.
* Ability to read music (sight reading skills are preferred but not required as
long as you can learn music fast).
* Arranging or composition skills a plus.
* College-level musical training is preferred.
* A flexible schedule for rehearsals and performances.

We are looking for another talented, fun-loving individual to join our ensemble.
To start out, you'd be joining us on a part-time basis, filling in for one of
our altos, as needed, as she will be preparing for grad school auditions in the
next few months. You would take over her spot permanently after she moves away
in the summer.

We meet every Wednesday in Sherman Oaks, with occasional extra rehearsals when a
performance is near. We have had a few paid gigs, and our intention is to
continue in that direction; however, our main goal is to have fun and sing
beautiful music that is both challenging and entertaining. We are all friends
and spend time together outside of rehearsals and performances. Someone who is
not only interested in making awesome, professional-sounding music, but also in
making new friends, would be a great addition to the group.

If you are interested in auditioning, please send an email including a head shot
and detailing your qualifications, background, and any links to clips or other
relevant online content about you to Nate George at jazzsinger1482@....

Movie details:

"It's a battle of the bands, barbershop-style! This is truly the must-see music
doc of 2009." - Chris Gore, FILM THREAT

"Inspiring, entertaining, toe-tapping fun! The audience literally cheers during
the film ... a crowd-pleasing triumph!" - SEDONA INTERNATIONAL FILM
FESTIVAL

"Compulsively funny, insightful and entertaining ... it's this year's KING OF
KONG!" - THE FILM TALK.COM

Every year, thousands compete in the world's greatest singing competition...that
you've never heard of!

AMERICAN HARMONY journeys deep into the ultra-obsessive, zany and heartfelt
world of competitive barbershop singing, where passion is only equaled by raw
talent, and the reward is not fame or glory, but simply victory.

The film focuses on four quartets vying to win the International Championship of
Barbershop Singing, in what turns out to be the closest and most controversial
victory in its 70 year history.

MAX Q is the heavy favorite - a superstar quartet comprised of former champions.
Looking to upset them is OC TIMES (The Heartthrobs), VOCAL SPECTRUM (The
Rookies), and REVEILLE, an aging foursome with two members who have sung
together for almost 30 years.

Every year, 50 quartets battle it out for the coveted gold medal, while facing
the pressures of quartet life - from giant egos to brain cancer and everything
in between. To win, it's not enough to have one "Idol" - a quartet must have
perfect harmony.

Are you a singer who likes to ...

* make percussive noises in a groove,
* scream like a trumpet, or guitar,
* vocally jam like an instrumental solo,
* work together to make a sound bigger than a sum of individuals?

Do you like Tower of Power, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Talking Heads? Lately, we
put together a Depeche Mode medley, Hey Pocky Way (The Meters/Neville Bros.),
and performed WatchaSay/Hide&Seek and Superwoman at the LA Acappella Festival.

Do you like making social statements? (After all, we are based in Venice!
Though, we have members from all over greater LA.)

Then, we are looking for you to join this a cappella band. We want talented
VP/beatboxing and rhythmic singers to help us lay down a
groove, and high sopranos at the top of the horn section, or searing that synth
line.

The Contemporary A Cappella League ( http://www.casa.org/league ) offers a
community of support. Our first gathering in Memphis summer 2008 headlined Take

On Thursday, March 18, an all-day a cappella music festival for young women,
Project Harmony, is being held at the Pasadena Convention Center -- and you're
invited to come fill the hall with music!**

Sponsored by Region 21 Sweet Adelines, Project Harmony will present songs to be
sung in four-part barbershop style and include classes in vocal production and
showmanship. Participants will get to meet young women from across the
Southwest, sing together, learn performance skills and, at the end of the day,
perform together on a show!

The classes will be led by experienced musicians under the leadership of guest
faculty Dede Nibler, director of the Voices United Chorus in Fresno, CA., a
multiple international quartet medalist, and a regional chorus and quartet
champion.

And the best news: the entire Project Harmony event -- morning classes, lunch,
afternoon classes and the evening performance -- will all be free of charge to
the participants! That's a day of exciting, interactive music education for
FREE, thanks to our sponsors!

Upon registering, all the Project Harmony participants will get music and
learning tracks for the songs to be sung to be prepared for the day.

Participants in Project Harmony should be girls aged from 12-25. If they are
under age 18, they will need permission slips and a designated chaperone for the
day.

If you would like to register for Project Harmony, please e-mail Jana Gutenson

We would like to have the upcoming Los Angeles Harmony Sweepstakes reviewed and
are not sure whether somebody will post something on the newsgroup this year or
not.

We therefore offer a couple of tickets or a handful of a cappella CDs to anybody
who would like to write about the show.

We are looking more for a colorful, creative, informative, documentation of the
event rather than critiques but would welcome any and all comments and opinions.
It's a way of letting folks who didn't make it that evening to get the feel of
what it was like to be there.

Anybody interested?

O Adventuresome Singers,

A completely different musical animal.

It's not about sweet harmonies.

Rather, imaging singing in the shower, but with clothes on, in a room full
of 70 other singers, as loud as you feel.

The Los Angeles area Sacred Harp singers will hold their annual all-day
singing in San Pedro, in the Angels Gate Park, on Saturday, May 15.

Details are here:
<http://homepage.smc.edu/russell_richard/fasola/2010%20regional.htm>

The event is free.
There's no requirement to stay all day.
We take 10-minute breaks every 50 minutes.
The best singing is the first hour after lunch.
Everybody has a "musical human right" to call a song.

Words are traditional but singers themselves represent a cross-section of
Los Angeles and we avoid talking about the words because we're there to sing
oh are we ever.

Most of you probably don't need any training but anyone who wants to have a
lesson first, this Saturday (May 8) there is a Learner's Group in Santa
Monica.

Or you can drop in at one of my Thursday night singings in Culver City for a
crash course.

Loaner books will be available.
$20 if you want to take one home.

Sing for your supper & you'll get potluck,
basses are not dumb,
they never grovel under the thumb
of tenors, it is said,
so sing compositions by William Billings
(bass with a tobacco-damaged voice)
& you'll be fed-
up with nonpolyphonic music,

I need three to four STRONG male voices, of all parts. It's for something big.
Totally worth it. We've got a month to put together a really tight sound. It's

Shoot me an email if you fit this description. I reiterate, STRONG VOICES.

Hello friends and colleagues,

To be succinct: this is the probably the last Down 4 The Count update you will
get for a while. Francesca and Andreas have decided to leave the ensemble and
their departure means a significant change for this ensemble - how and what that
is, is yet to be determined.

Fortunately for our fans, we will have one final performance of the current
line-up, at the Complete Actors Place in Sherman Oaks on June 13 at 3PM. This
is a really great venue, and the $20 ticket includes an open bar and hors

Are you practically a pro but donft have the time for a full-on vocal career?
Do you secretly play your pitch pipe on your coffee break for an a cappella fix?
Did the singing bug bite you recently ? is that why youfre reading this?

If so - Sweet Tonic, a new mixed vocal group on the west side, is looking for
YOU!

We are on the prowl for strong singers whoc
*love different styles of vocal music, especially jazz
*have experience singing solo & harmony (1 or 2 to a part) in professional or
semi-pro groups, and can hold their own in tight, beautifully dissonant chords
*can learn a tune quickly, by ear/sight singing or good old-fashioned practice
*have a great sense of rhythm
*are serious about having fun with music!

Founded by an a cappella addict from Japan, Sweet Tonic is (or will be!) an
eight-person group of singers who love their day jobs but canft live without a
little vocal harmony in their lives. We rehearse in Santa Monica from 4pm to
6pm on Sundays, on average 3x a month, with an eye toward open mic gigs, concert

Hi everybody!

A friend and I have decided to start an a cappella group in the Northern Los
Angeles County / Ventura County area, and we're trying to see if there's any
interest in joining us for this new venture! We're hoping to be a semi-pro
group... which is to say, we don't plan to quit our day jobs at this point, but
we do plan to get gigs that will pay us once we've established ourselves and
built up a repertoire.

Important details:
We've got three guys at this point (bari, bass, tenor). Ideally, we're looking
for one more man to be primarily vocal percussion with occasional forays into
the vocals, and three women: one each of mezzo, alto, and soprano. If one or
more of the women also kick bass on VP, we certainly wouldn't complain... =)

Thanks!

Subject: Los Angeles based vocal group, Red Harmony, is looking for new talent!

Red Harmony, a Los Angeles based mixed A Cappella Vocal Band, is looking for a
Tenor, Alto and Vocal Percussionist

Our new members would ideally possess the following:
* Experience singing solos in many different styles of music (most importantly,
pop and jazz).
* Experience performing vocal percussion
* Experience singing complex vocal harmonies, one on a part.
* Ability to read music (sight reading skills are preferred but not required as
long as you can learn music fast).
* Arranging or composition skills a plus.
* College-level musical training is preferred.
* A flexible schedule for rehearsals and performances.

Red Harmony is a semi-professional, six person, award-winning vocal group that
has performed several times around the Los Angeles area. In the last year we
have received some notice on television (Comedy Central's The Jeff Dunham Show
and a Time Warner Cable produced segment that was featured on CNN and later on
Time Warner Cable's ON DEMAND service). While the group is still going strong
and continuing to make a name for ourselves, two members are moving on and we
are now on the lookout for singers who can match their incredible talent and
commitment to our ensemble, as well as join us on our journey as we prepare to
take the group to the next level. Check out our youtube page at
http://www.redharmony.org/youtube for a closer look at what we do in our
performances.

If you are interested in auditioning, please send an email, including a head
shot, detailing your qualifications, background, and any links to clips or other
relevant online content about you to Nate George at jazzsinger1482@....
The audio and/or video clips you send us are crucial, as we will be reviewing
those to choose who we bring in to audition in the next month!
