I *was* at Somerset House and I thought they were
fantastic. I thought the mostly slow-paced set was
just about perfect for the extraordinary surroundings
(there's nothing I like more than bands making an
effort to play in ways, or at venues which just aren't
rock 'n' roll).
I'm a bit more familiar with most of the songs than I
was at All Tomorrows Parties, which probably helped,
and I enjoyed them as much on Monday as I have before.
Losing the brass section was a shame (if Jonathan Marx
is reading this, by the way, did anyone ever sort you
out with that Blue Orchids stuff?) but the seven
guitar arrangements (eight if you count the steel, I
suppose) were unusual and at times gorgeous. I don't
expect to hear these songs arranged in that way again,
either.
The new LP should be great, too. Is it true that it;s
already recorded but not slated for release until next
year?
Cheers
Tim
