just got back from the lambchop show in nc and they had a new tour cd
for sale ($10) of the show last month in austria. haven't even gotten
to listen to it yet, but i'm assuming they've got a string quartet of
some ilk with them. i think i see the word succulence in the upper
right corner, so maybe that's the title of the tour cd? who knows...
heck if anyone keeps us up to date on this stuff anymore!

The remixes are great. Hate the cardboard CD cases though - tore this one on
the first open. 2 months later they look old and tatty. Just had to get that
off my chest.

just a heads up for all the north american folks - there's a limited
edition uk version of "damaged" with a bonus ep that has alternate
versions/remixes of 4 tracks from the album... i'm normally not one
for remixes, but i really dig 'em. you can get it for about $21
shipped from cd-wow.com

hey sean h., and other interest-group members:

i like the new compilation. some songs i have not
heard. most seem to be 'thriller' timeframe 1997,
moving into later 'nixon' material. i also enjoyed
the alternative versions of some of the songs. i had
been able to find some of the rare cd's at new/used cd
stores in my area, so i was familar with some.

i have to tell my story of seeing the band 3/17/02 in
los angeles at 'the knitting factory' in hollywood on
the 'is a woman' tour. the next day, i drove back
home to az, stopped near palm springs, from my
vehicle, heard live RADIO broadcast from kcrw 'morning
becomes eclectic.' later, heard the webcast
many-a-time. great website with lots of music:
'kcrwmusic.com.' (click 'morning becomes eclectic.')

getting back to the 1997 'thriller' material, it
included some f.m. cornog songs. f.m. cornog is
associated with 'east river pipe,' also on the MERGE
label. great stuff---i wish lambchop played more
covers of songs by f.m. cornog of 'east river pipe.'
(new cd 'east river pipe 2006:' 'WHAT ARE YOU ON?')

i must tell about my first exposure to lambchop---a
ktel compilation 'alt.country exposed roots,' first
song from the band i heard was 'the saturday option.'
i have been to 3 'chop concerts, all in los angeles.
my fantasy is to be able to attend some concerts in
europa. i wish they'd come to az--good music scene in
tucson especially. includes 'calexico' with whom
lambchop once toured with, and counts mr paul niehaus
as a member.

looking forward to the next lambchop cd.

best regards, john c. in az.

So, what do people think of the new compilation? I was initially pretty
annoyed that the band released another best of/rarities compilation, but
after listening to the first disc I think this release is actually
really cool. The clincher for me is that it contains one of my musical
holy-grails -- "Playboy, the Shit" -- that I've been hoping to get a
recording of ever since I saw it performed at the Gas Light back in the
mid '90s (I was new to Nashville, and took that show as a sign that my
new home was actually going to turn out to be pretty cool). Almost fell
out of my chair when that track came on.

World Premiere screening at the Nashville Film Festival on Monday,
April 24 at 9:25pm (Tonight) and Tuesday, April 25 at 2:00pm.

A look at New Zealand underground rock legend David Kilgour and his
journey to Music City to record with his pals from the band Lambchop.

DIR/CAM Bridget Sutherland PROD/ED Sutherland, Paul Judge MUS David
Kilgour

Far Off Town—Dunedin to Nashville is a documentary about New Zealand
underground rock legend David Kilgour and his journey from the small
NZ town of Dunedin to Music City to record with his pals in the
alternative country band Lambchop. We get a glimpse into the beyond-
Music Row world of independent record making in Nashville and the
maverick production style of Lambchop member, sound engineer and
producer, Mark Nevers. Kilgour then takes a trek through the Blue
Ridge Mountains to the home of his indie label Merge Records in
Chapel Hill. Accompanied by Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley of Yo La
Tengo and members of Lambchop, Kilgour performs at the historic
Carolina Theatre in celebration of Merge’s 15 years as an independent
label. Also appearing in the film are Kilgour’s New Zealand bands
The Clean and The Heavy Eights. Others making an appearance are David
Berman of the Silver Jews, Will Oldham, Jason and the Scorchers, Bill
Lloyd and The Long Players, Billy Joe Shaver, Mandolin Mike, Allison
Moorer, Jason Loewenstein and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.

Preceded by The Ballad of Peter LaFarge (Sandra Schulman, USA 2006,
13 min.), a look at the famed folksinger featuring rare photos and
film footage that has never been made public.

Apparently This is the City Slang Version (subtitled "1993-1999"). The
Merge Version is subtitled "the woodwind years" dunno if there's any
track differences or not.

Also New(?) track on eMusic called "Paperback Bible" 6.52 minutes long

Hey,
How's about putting out an old live concert from the
archives-something not circulated yet?

Something from Lucy's (if it exists)?

Or the exit/in mergefest with spent and superchunk?

The live shows leading up to the release of thriller were intense
and insanely good.

Or the first show ever with calexico at the sutler-when you were
learning their songs onstage. Mark's amp was in the bathroom.

Or the lambchop/cyod/dave cloud & gospel of power/cherry
blossoms/paul burch & 1/2 of br549show outside under the cicadas at
the 5ive star thrift in summer '98 (I KNOW THIS WAS RECORDED BY THE
BAND AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GET A COPY).

How's about some old covers? I heard 'when she gets behind closed
doors' in about '96 at Lucy's. Doubt they'll pull that one out
again.

New album out in the summer of 2006, the Nashville based collective
will do a rather short festival tour (late July into August) and will
afterwards promote their new album at a club & theatre tour in the
fall of 2006. Their last two albums have easily been nominated "Album
of the month" in UNCUT, MOJO, (German) Rolling Stone etc. etc. Great
band, amazing Songwriting - certainly one of the highlights in our agency.
Offer a special program for "rock" festivals.

Endlich wieder auf (kurzer) Tournee zweite Julihälfte/erste

New CD coming out this March in the UK/Europe from City Slang, I have no
idea how this will relate to the Merge-released "Tools In The Dryer"...
More details from cityslang.com are below...

www.noloveforned.com

A new Lambchop album of rare and unreleased songs is coming out in March
06. The album, which will be called "The Decline of the Country & Western
Civilization (1993 - 1999) will collect almost all of Lambchop's early
singles as well as a few unreleased songs spanning the years 1993 to 99.
Over the course of the albums "I Hope You're Sitting Down", "How I Quit
Smoking", "Hank", "Thriller" and "What Another Man Spills" the band had
been releasing many of their songs in drastically different versions as
seven inches on various different labels. This album is going to collect
them all. 17 songs in total! Full tracklisting to follow soon.

lampchop (consisting of kurt, willy t, tony, deanna, jonathan, matt, sam,
and alan) played on august 20, 2005 at the springwater supper club in
nashville, tennessee as part of the 'working stiffs jamboree' 20th
anniversary show.

as is always the case, every time that lambchop actually plays a show in
nashville, i seem to be out of town. but a kind friend recorded some of the
show for me.

soulseek users can track me down (username: carnibu1) and get the file. i
don't mean to sound rude, but i am currently way too busy to mail a physical
copy to anyone, so soulseek's gotta be the way to go.

there are four songs - all of them are new. the only one that kurt
introduces is called 'the rise and fall of the letter p'.

if, for any reason, any lambchop members object to the songs being posted,
please email and i'll take them down.

and lastly - on a self-indulgent note - if you're going through my soulseek
files, check out my one-man band, 'paris street'.

cheers,
cp.
