The 11th Annual Las Vegas City of Lights Jazz Festival was held this
past Saturday. My good friend Don Brown Sr. already has the review
completed. You may view it at:
http://jazzinternet.com/vegasjazz/caughtlive/coljf2004.htm

Also, in my last message I forgot to give you the link to JazzBeat
Nevada. For now (it might change later) that would be:

I've begun a weekly feature which will cover jazz news and club
events in Las Vegas and beyond the neon. Also included are the
birthdays of jazz artists for the current week, and new jazz releases
for the same period. Plus biographies of selected musicians. More
features will be added as I re-invent Las Vegas Jazz n' Blues.

LAS VEGAS JAZZ ARTISTS: I've added a record of musicians that either
reside, or have lived, in Las Vegas and have contributed to its jazz
scene. The list includes the insrtument(s) played and a brief
biographical selection. Thus far there are 37 entries. Also added was
a list of Carl Fontana CDs release during 1985-2002. There shall be
more to come. Please email me any of your suggestions. -- Bion

I've just begun a record of CD releases by artists either living in
Las Vegas, or with close ties to the city. It shall be expanded when
time permits. For now it includes Buddy Greco (Joe Lano, gtr),
pianist Stefan Karlsson, Shapiro Project (Eugene Shapiro, gtr; Rusty
Blevins, sax; Kevin Thomas, bass; Boris Shapiro, drums), The
Cunninghams, and Laura Taylor. To view just click on "Database" in
the menu.

Hello, I am new.

Last fall there were a number of casinos that had JAZZ night,
Brendan's, Suncoast, Greenvalley Ranch.

1) Does anyone know of places that are having jazz performances now?

2) When is the big jazz concert, at Desert Breeze Park, going to be?

I found a great blues CD...from Chilmark Entertainment, and they
have a sale on great jazz music.
The best part is that they digitally recreated the old recordings to
make a great new sound! No pops... no hums... I felt like I was
listening to studio tapes made last week, instead of records from
the 40's and 50's.
And I saved a bundle on their offer...no shipping charges either.
Click here to see for yourself...it's great music.

I am new to this group as of today. I would love to hear of any news
anytime about Etta James concert dates. Also I would love to see her
in Vegas but never know when she will be there. Thanks for any info.

Hi folks,

I just moved to the valley and was pleasantly surprised to find a
website dedicated to listing who's playing when. I was unpleasantly
surprised to find that all of the open-mic jams listed for
Wednesdays are out of commission; in fact, venues for two of them
(Mermaid and Junkyard Live) appear to have gone out of business.

So, for someone new to the area and who wants to get out and blow
some blues, jazz or a little funk, where and when are the good jam
sessions?

TIA,

Stacy

Ubiquity Records has just re-issued the Don Cunningham
Quartet's "Something For Everyone." The original album was recorded
in 1965 and only 500 copies were pressed. Don lives in Las Vegas with
his lovely wife Alicia. Together they perform as The Cunninghams, a
dynamic jazz vocal duo. Currently they are touring with the Count
Basie Band. For more information on these, and other, wonderful local
Las Vegas jazz musicians visit Las Vegas Jazz n' Blues at
www.jazzInternet.com And for Las Vegas Blues go to
http://blues.lvjazz.com

More details on the Cunninghams will be forthcoming, including
interviews with members of Don's quartet.

I am a jazz guitarist and will be in Vegas from Aug. 25 till mid-day Aug.

Would love to catch some Jazz guitar players gigging that week.

If anyone can suggest a few locations I would appreciate it.

I'm sure players can use the support.

"A small but mighty group." I like that. Thanks JP. Yes, there is a
good jazz scene in Vegas... small, but mighty! But it's somewhat
underground. Meaning one has to search about for the gigs, many of
them in the most unlikely places. However, this seems to make the
group/fans more dedicated.

I'm going to try harder to keep this group updated, but it's
difficult with all my ungoing projects. Currently I just booked two
acts for a Jazz & Blues Night sponsored by the City of North Las
Vegas. It'll be held on August 17. The best bet is to check with my
local jazz site located at http://jazzinternet.com/vegasjazz. Those
pages are updated montly. Keep on jazzin'

After seven years, Monday night "Jazz on the Strip" at the Riviera Le
Bistro Lounge has been canceled. This series featured the Don Menza
Big Band and various jazz guests. It was a night that paid for
itself, and even garnished a slight profit. The dividends for the
jazz fan were immeasurable. Like its predecessor, "Jazz at the Four
Queens," it will be genuinely missed. On a brighter note, I plan to
pay more attention to this jazz group. My first project will be to
add photos of artists playing at the Riviera. In any case, visit the
