I would assume that all soundtracks are NOT released?  I saw a movie tonight, The Republic of Love, of which Talvin Singh did the sountrack. Can't turn up anything on it.  Ideas?

Yeah...a lot of times budget restraints will prevent a soundtrack from being released (a lot of indie films you'll notice). Sometimes on smaller scale movies unless a huge buzz generates off a cut, there perceived lack of demand will prevent release also.

Speaking of releases being prevented, anyone have any
clue as to whether the world will ultimately see
Gigi's Gold & Wax, or the Herbie Hancock remix album?
I won't even ask about the Lifetime remixes.....

Anil you may or may not be familiar with this site:

If not I think you might find it a good starting point to long-lost
fusion/jazz LPs

It looks like for those of you in NY, Laswell will be curating the month of October at the Stone. The only confirmed people I know of so far appear to be Laswell and various combinations of the OHM Resistance crew over 6 nights in the second half of the month.

no other info yet...Kurt at OHM had relayed the news on those shows
specifically, though I'd heard before that Laswell was supposed to be
curating a month. The Stone tends to put up the calender of shows about a
month beforehand, so the list probably won't be on their site until early
September.

OHM RESISTANCE MANHATTAN JAZZ CLASH

As if it couldnt get anymore wrong, Bill Laswell has decided that it would
be real cool to host the Brutal Calling band for six (6) nights with his
crew of musicians at Stone in Manhattan. The venue is TINY and intimate as
all hell, and the owner looked about scared to death when we all came in to
check the place out. This is gonna be so ridiculous - you get six nights,
featuring Laswell and Submerged in varying configurations - playing with
everyone from Corrupt Souls, Annalyse, our fearless drummer Guy Licata, to
Karsh Kale, Graham Haynes, and maybe even Gigi. Wow. Come see it - Stone is
on the corner of 2nd St. and Ave C. Closest subway stop is Delancey/Essex on
the JMZ/F lines and the nights are Oct. 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, 2005, as in
this year. It has to be said, and someone has gotta say it, and it's gonna
be me, but if you manage to miss all of this, you are fucking mentally
impaired.

Hello to the Group

I know that some of the group know their way in and around
New York and I thought I would ask for their opinions and
some information, if they had any on The Nokia Theater located
in Times Square - - anybody been there yet a/o what's it like?

Knowing that some of the music Laswell has been involved in
and experimented with over the years has had some of its origin
in "Funk" - some may be interested in knowin that The Meters will be
reunited and playing at The Nokia on November 25th of this year.

Zigaboo Modeliste has recorded, to my knowledge, with 2 projects that
Laswell has been involved in a/o with. Zig's on the Nicky Skopelitis
recording "Ekstasis" and he also was on "South Delta Space Age" by 3rd
Rail.

Thanks, in advance, for any and all information.

George

THE STONE. have you seen the venue? after the band is crammed in there i
doubt the place will even hold 50 people. and tix can probably not be
bought in advance. i wonder if they have thought about hiring riot police.

My girlfriend is going to be in New York this October from about the 14th to the 20th staying with a girlfriend in Manhattan... hey apparently great place just by Battery Park.
If anyone knows of some great gigs or clubs to go to that week I'd... she'd appreciate finding out about it in advance.
Thanks for any ideas.

This paragraph was taken from an article on the pitchfork site:

In possibly the first instance of an Indian classical musician meeting
chopped up breakbeats that isn't a total insult to both sides (I am
looking at you Talvin Singh), the always reliable Dev Paradox turns
out a stunning remix of Shobha Gurtu's "Dil Leke Muhije Badnaam Kiva"
[First Contact]. It translates to "the cry of the heartbroken girl"
and there's definitely a bit of the pathos to Gurtu's classically
trained vocals meeting Dev's trademark dusty, raw, and slightly muted
break cascades. More troubling/confusing is news of Paradox working
with Herbie Hancock (hmmm) and Bill Laswell (nooooo) on a track
featuring Iggy Pop (omg wtf lol).

From what I read in AM New York the other day, the theater won't actually be
open until September if I remember correctly. My girlfriend just told me
that a friend of her best friend just got hired as an Assistant to the
Director or some such higher up position there. I can try and find out more
info about the venue if you'd like.

I've heard multiple people openly show their distaste for Talvin Singh.  Why?  I don't get it, for I think Ok is a fucking GREAT album, and Ha ain't too bad either.  I saw a movie the other night, The Republic of Love, which had a minimalist electronic score, though with very noticeable tabla.  Looking it up online when I got home, sure enough, Talvin Singh had done the soundtrack.

Roli Mosiman, former THE THE, a member? - Should be interesting to get
a live recording. The downloadable mp3 previews are intersting. No
relation BL.

Yeah I thought his solo albums were real good also...but it's his
work with Laswell and On-u Sound that really got me...the stuff he
did on Little Axe's Wolf that House Built was just supreme...and then
the subtle magic on Bim Sherman's Miracle album was just lovely...and
of course the laswell stuff goes w/out saying....
