New Releases since 8/21/2005 (33 items)
======================================
Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto - Insen (LP) - Raster-Noton $14.00
"Insen is a musical game of chess played by Noto and Sakamoto.
Sakamoto begins using the old Karkowski frontal attack but Noto (aka
Carsten Nicolai) counters employing the little-used but highly
effective Yellow Magic Defense. Ivories are tickled, knobs are
twiddled and long phrases of white room with black curtain
electronica are pushed across a lovely parquet flooring with a
feather duster made of the finest peacock's plumage." German-only
vinyl edition of the 2nd Noto/Sakamoto album (CD is released by
Asphodel in the US).
August Born - s/t (LP) - Drag City $13.00
"August Born is a collaboration between Japan's Hiroyuki Usui and Six
Organs of Admittance's Ben Chasny. Well versed 'heads already know
Hiroyuki under his alias of L, in which he recorded the subtle
psychedelic gem, Holy Letters. Along with spending time in Marble
Sheep, he also played drums for Fushitsusha for six years and played
in an early incarnation of Ghost, which can be seen on the live DVD,
Metamorphosis. Holy Letters was an early template for Six Organs when
it was released nearly ten years ago. August Born started off as a
game that was based on the idea of 'fortuitous mistranslation.' That
is: even if they didn't understand exactly what the other wanted to
do or where to go with the song, the songs themselves would find
their own direction. The project started with the scraping sounds of
a bird being buried. As improbable as it seemed, these sounds
eventually created music. August Born is a mellow work seamlessly
blending Hiroyuki's guitar, vocals, vibes, harmonium, bass, drums,
cello, field recordings, and didgeridoo with Chasny's unmistakable
voice and guitar. The tunes found here hold rewards that will only
grow with patience and time."
Bastard Noise - Sound Engine (CD) - PacRec $8.00
"All sounds by Wiese / Wood"
Bastard Noise - live in Japan (CD) - Helicopter $8.00
"all sounds by Wiese & Wood post-production by John Wiese"
Chad Oliveiri and Joe+N - nowhere is now here (DVDR) - Carbon Records
$10.00
the video portion was created by Joe+N. an experiment in video
confusion. trying to present everyday items in ways that are not
easily recognizable, using blurring effects, extreme zoom, extreme
motion, and time modification. the audio was created by Chad Oliveiri
and Joe+N during a show at Gallery31 in Rochester NY. the audio was
created while viewing the video portion. the two were then synced up
for this release. 30 min. [NOW ON NTSC DVD-R]
Cheapmachines - diagrammene (CD) - Entr'acte $10.00
"Two long tracks, recorded live in Norway: Oslo, Dans for Voksne, 16
April 2005: Bergen, Kunsthall/Landmark, 17 April 2005. Five inch CD
packaged in a 5.25 inch floppy disc case"
Chefkirk - The Earth is Mostly Ocean (CD) - Entr'acte $10.00
"This CD contains 9 tracks, totally 32 minutes and 10 seconds.

earth. This is officially calculated as 71%."
Connie Acher - lovesick lip service (CD) - Flipped Out $8.00

the voice of an angel as glorious guitars wrap around home-made
percussion and more to soothe the most chattering mind"
Connie Acher and Jelly - Love Pop (CD) - Flipped Out $8.00
"the rhythm of life in happy harlem spins jelly into the melodie
jamming note chomping blur over and under connie’s cascading songs of
high beauty"
Cousins of Raggae - summah slamma / bowlcano (LP) - ohnono records
$10.00
"the debut 12" from this montreal based 2 man mind fuck. utilizing
guitar, drums, turntables and voice, the cousins pound out sweat
drenched dirty rock from under a sickening haze of overdriven
everything. imagine the classic rock stylings of fleetwood mac mixed
with the power and grit of noise rockers air conditioning or
sightings, and you're just starting to get the picture. this first
edition of 300 records are housed in beautiful hand painted one of a
kind jackets, and are individually numbered for an added dose of
awesomeness. previously released on cassette in an edition of 35 by
the mighty fluorescent friends of canadaland. "
D Yellow Swans - Damaged Yellow Swans (CASS) - 23Productions $7.00
"23 Productions is happy to finally have some good juice by Damaged
Yellow Swans. Heavy noise as usual from the enthusiastic and dynamic
duo of Pete and Gabe. This time around DYS invokes their most blissed
out level of psych noise and industrial murk to date. This wreckage
is blasted onto a c12 and limited to an edition of 77."
D Yellow Swans - (Dove Yellow Swans) - Live During War Crimes (CD) -
Release the Bats $10.00
"live during war crimes is a collection with the best parts from
various older releases, all remastered and edited to work as a new
fullenght album. the result is a epic mayhem. 6 songs in about 47
minutes. a industrial wasteland of futuristic electronics, hypnotic
feedback assaults and atmospheric drones - a beautiful, yet grim,
sonic bliss. the material is taken from the dusk tape (released on
jyrk, the bands own imprint), the demonic cdr (hung like a horse) and
the drill cdr (snse). everything was recorded live between may and
june 2004. comes packaged in a special dual plover styled fullcolor
digipack. cover drawings by devendra banhart."
D Yellow Swans and Jim Altieri - Drowning Yellow Swans (CDR) - Carbon
Records $8.00
28+min of swelling and dro(w)ning guitar, glitched up blips and
beeps, and ghostly vocal fragments. another amazing installment from
D Yellow Swans, with help, this time, from Jim Altieri. connecting,

Dirty Found - issue #1 (ZINE) - Found Magazine $10.00
"We collect Dirty Found stuff: pervy Polaroids, sleazy birthday
cards, raunchy to-do lists, nasty poetry on napkins, illustrations--
anything that gives a glimpse into someone else's sex life. It's just
like our sister, Found Magazine, only sleazier.
We certainly didn't invent the idea of found stuff being cool. Every
time we visit our friends in other towns, someone's always got some
kinda unbelievable found note or photo on their fridge. We wanted to
make a magazine so that everyone can check out all the strange,
hilarious and heartbreaking things people've picked up. After a few
years of collecting all these finds, we ended up with a big, fat
folder of pervy stuff, and now it's time to share the goods with you
guys." -- www.dirtyfound.com
Dream Magazine - issue #5 (ZINE) - Dream Magazine $10.00

KONONO NO. 1/THE DEAD C - split series #18 (LP) - Fat Cat $6.00
"Hailing from Kinishasa in The Democratic Republic of The Congo,
Konono No.1 marks FatCat's first release of an artist from the
African continent. The Congolese refer to this style as 'tradi-
modern', meaning electrified traditional music. Konono No.1 was
founded over 25 years ago by Mingiedi, a virtuoso of the likembé (a
traditional instrument sometimes called 'sanza' or 'thumb piano',
consisting of metal rods attached to a resonator). The band's line-up
includes three electric likembés (bass, medium and treble), equipped
with hand-made microphones built from magnets salvaged from old car
parts, and plugged into amplifiers. The rhythm section uses both
traditional and makeshift percussion (pans, pots, car parts), 3
singers, 3 dancers and a sound system. Whilst their repertoire draws
largely on Bazombo trance music, the incorporation of originally-
unwanted distortions arising through their sound system has led to
them developing a unique style which has accidentally connected them
with the aesthetics of the most experimental forms of rock and
electronic music, as much through their sounds as through their sheer
volume and merciless grooves. Formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1987
by guitarists Michael Morley and Bruce Russell, and drummer Robbie
Yeats, The Dead C have released nearly 20 albums. Their side of this
Split 12" opens with five locked-groove slices of molten, lava-fold
noise. Whilst the later 2 tracks witness the trio in live meltdown,
the first full track sees a rare-ish return to the band's earlier
methods which see-sawed around a tension between the solidity of the
song and the disintegrative logic of free improvisation."
Konono No.1 - Congotronics (LP) - Ache $12.00
Limited LP version of the 2004 Crammed Disc CD release. "Konono N°1
was founded over twenty-five years ago by Mingiedi, a virtuoso of the
likembé (a traditional instrument sometimes called 'sanza' or 'thumb
piano,' consisting of metal rods attached to a resonator). The band's
line-up includes three electric likembés (bass, medium and treble),
equipped with hand-made microphones built from magnets salvaged from
old car parts and plugged into amplifiers. There's also a rhythm
section which uses traditional as well as makeshift percussion (pans,
pots and car parts), three singers, three dancers and a sound system
featuring megaphones dating from the colonial period. Instead of
apologizing for the heavily distorted sounds of such DIY
amplification, Konono N°1 have embraced them, provoking a radical
mutation of their sound, and has accidentally connected them with the
aesthetics of today's most underground forms of music as much through
their sounds as through their sheer volume (they play in front of a
wall of speakers) and merciless grooves. Hailing from Africa and
rooted in a very social form of folk music-making, Konono N°1 is one
of the main exponents of a spectacular style of music which has
developed in the suburbs of the capital city of Kinshasa. The
Congolese refer to this style as 'tradi-modern,' meaning electrified
traditional music. These are musicians who have left the bush to
settle in the capital and, in order to both continue fulfilling their
social role and make themselves heard above the urban din, they have
resorted to DIY amplification of their instruments, and the use of
megaphones."
Menstruation Sisters - Holy Africa (7inch) - white denim $5.00
"Within seven minutes, Menstruation Sisters are able to reverse the
past ten milleniums of musical progression. Grumbling and jumping
about like neanderthals at the first sight of fire, 'Holy Africa'
reads like an ancient letter dictated by the animals at the swamp.
For those in need of a contemporary reference, try to imagine if the
members of Hair Police were all 6 years old and had to share one
distortion pedal, or if Gollum mated with an alien and the pre-birth
fetus sang for a language-less tribe. Menstruation Sisters bark forth
the harsh sounds of nature, calling out for every unknown mitosis
process occurring deep within the soil. ---- There are 6 test
pressings, each hand-numbered, with regular hardstock covers, and
including the original hand-made artwork for the center sticker and
cover art. There are 303 copies on black vinyl, each with a folded
hardstock cover and sealed poly-bag."
one-to-one - for two mono channels (CD) - Entr'acte $10.00
"recorded continuously and simlutaneously in two separate locations
between 01:00 13 April and 01:00 14 Aprill 2005. Extracted randomly,
one minute per house. Compiled chronologically, without editing.
Duration: 24 minutes. Five ince CD in a sealed and perforated A5
envelope. produced in two colourways. First edition of 24
copies" (OUT OF PRINT)
R.O.T. - hougebraajt (CDR) - Digitalis Industries $8.00
"hail to the belgian kings! r.o.t. is led by veglia founder laurent
cartuyvels. this group of noiseniks produce some heavily spaced out
jams, thick with cosmic debris. "hougebraajt" is one long piece
clocking in at just a shade over 41 minutes. within that space,
r.o.t. change modes multiple times. the consistent thread running
through the track is one that preaches to the journey, not the
destination. you get the feeling r.o.t. are constantly searching for
something, but are really not concerned with finding it. electric
guitar hum melts perfectly with minimal chromatic percussion, all the
while backed by simple basslines. r.o.t. show that most of the time,
complexity is overrated and just being in the moment is good enough.
100 copies"
Seht - the voice of the taniwha (CD) - Last Visible Dog $10.00
"While the post-Corpus Hermeticum sound may seem a different beast
altogether than your copy of Le Jazz Non, the change, with
inspection, is at best superficial. Minimalism and drone remain, but
while 'maximalist' minimalism has dissapeared, minimalism itself
remains with heavy sound sampling and warped (IE destroyed)
electronics. Seht is most certainly one of the newer generation to
rise out of the ashes of HCorp, and much to his advantage, since the
ensuing silence seems more his tool than the blare of guitar
feedback. Here a sensitive ear is lent to even the most mundane field
recordings, yielding this recording, a mix of acoustic guitar
improvisations, drone, field recordings and electronics. "
The Body - s/t (LP) - Moganono $10.00
These guys just played here in Rochester and blew me away, literally!
i was standing in front them them, setting up the recorder, when they
started. every hair on my body stood up and was blown back! i
couldn't breathe! amazing heavy and loud as shit rock/metal duo.
Various Artists - LDS Relationchips (CD) - Entr'acte $10.00
"A compilation of reworks by the original Luxury Discreet
Surroundings CD (Entr'acte 1: released in 1999) by Errorsmith, Sudden
Infant, Koukei and Imany, Blackjewishgays Presents Something J, Peter
Rehberg and Kevin Drumm, Christoph De Babalon, P_Audio, NTSH (AAA),
Elember Septeventh, Dave Phillips, Column One, Jorgen Echlund, and
Kein Babel. Five ince CD in hand-printed and numbered digipack."
Various Artists - Time and Relative Dimensions in Space - long -form
works (CD) - Rebis $10.00
long-form compositions by Taurpis Tula, The Skaters, My Cat is an
Alien, Jim Haynes Number none
Volcano the Bear - catonapotato (CD) - Digitalis Industries $12.00
"All in all, it's just a brilliant sonic excursion down a musical
path very few are brave enough to follow these days, and along the
way the band manages to explain exactly why the true environment for
Volcano the Bear is the live setting. If you never have come across
this band before I honestly believe that you never have heard
anything quite like it. This is meditation music for the drone/noise
generation."
White Light - s/t (CD) - Rebis $10.00
"Debut recording from Chicago-area duo. Punishing highs, earth-
shaking lows: a must for lovers of transcendental drone guitar."
White Mice - mouse of mendes (LP) - ohnono records $10.00
"vinyl reissue of the self released cd with early demos and found
sounds on the bside. those unfamiliar with the mice should take
note... "Providence Rhode Island's WHITE MICE are a three piece
(bass, drums and oscillator) that generate enough round and square
wave tones to bring a BONANZA bus of nuns three feet (.91 m) off the
ground. Combining the menacing (kinda slouched) posture of black
metal with blistering oscillator attack is nothing new, but WHITE
MICE bring the game to your hometown. The band does dress like lab
butchered white mice when playing live. Mind you trainspotters
looking for the RIYL attack: I say BRAINBOMBS and MELVINS, and
similar riffraff but with a different toolset mind you. Churning
oscillator attacks, belly-bustin' bass, and demonic wails … rock
music rewired for a generation punch drunk on its own fart fumes" -
loadrecords.com numbered pressing of 502 with 100 copies on smoke
vinyl. all silkscreened artwork with many cover/insert color
variations."
Wooden Spoon - s/t (CDR) - Digitalis Industries $8.00
"wooden spoon's self-titled debut is hopeful journey. the man behind
the mask, owen hills, takes us through the english countryside and
into the great rivers of europe, hoping to search out salvation. on
these eight untitled tracks, hills is an adept leader, showcasing his
skills on acoustic guitar and piano. straight from the school of
basho and fahey, this is music that seeks to please nobody but its
creator. hills gained some much-deserved attention when he played a
couple shows with co-hort (and friend) james blackshaw, peter wright,
and josephine foster this past spring. the instrumental acoustic
passages are accented with simple piano chords and harmonica notes.
when the album closes, you are brought back to reality. it's
disappointing to have the expedition through these quiet, folk-
inspired moments end. thankfully, the journey is just a play button
away. 100 copies"
