Artist: Various Artists
Title: i don't think the dirt belongs to the grass
Format: 3CD
Label: Carbon Records
Price: $20.00
Catalog ID: CR99

a year+ in the making, and originally slated for a 10YR celebration,
this compilation is documentation of amazing people/artists i've
worked with over the past, now, 12 years. it also started out as a
double CD project, but with the growing list of people i wanted to
involve, and the overwhelming volume of confirmations, i had to grow
it to a triple CD (and even had to do some trimming to fit that
format). the release is packaged in a standard-size DVD case, with a
full-color cover, and holds the 3 CDs as well as a full-color card-
stock insert. the dvd case is then housed in a natural-color cotton
bag with single-color ink stamp art/logo. the sounds range from quiet
ambient sounds, to meandering guitar work, to outsider rock, to full
on noise, as well as a folk/pop track here and there. [limited
edition of 500]

Hinkley - estate sale (CD) - Carbon Records $10.00
"In Spring of 2005 Hinkley started working on their latest CD, Estate
Sale, with the help of Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah, Clem
Snide, Yo La Tengo). Recorded in both Brooklyn and Rochester, the
mixing and production duties of the record were split between Adam
and Hinkley (Adam mixing half the record remote in Los Angeles and
Hinkley mixing the other half in Rochester). Each mix was carefully
constructed and well though out, in some cases changes to the
arrangement or instrumentation occurred after all the tracks were
recorded and mixing was well underway. This approach gives the record
a unique feel. Musically Estate Sale encompasses a wide variety of
ideas weaving between country, 60's pop and indie-rock, while still
grounded in the distinct sound that has given Hinkley its name."
simply put, this is one of the best pop/rock records i've heard in
quite some time, and hence, i was compelled to release this CD (joe).

OvO / Cock E.S.P. - split single (7inch) - Carbon Records $5.00
"Italy's Ovo create fierce and pounding postpunk featuring heavy
injections of noise, free jazz and seminal no-wave. The duo features
talented multi-instrumentalist and Bar La Muerte Records chief Bruno
Dorella (Ronin, Wolfango, Bugo) and Stefania Pedretti (Allun, ?aloS),
whose stunning vocal range begins with cutsey child-like whispers,
peaks with banshee wails, and finishes with brutal death metal roars.
This release sees them in full rock mode, causing one sneak-preview
listener to compare the first of their two tracks -- "Pastorale" --
to Godflesh. Daniele Brusaschetto, Jacopo Andreini and Capoccia make
special guest appearances. America's Cock E.S.P. are generally known
for producing harsh noise only surpassed in intensity by the contempt
they generate within certain corners of the underground music scene.
This release is more of a diverse collection than their usual
outings, featuring mostly duo recordings of bandleader Emil Hagstrom
and vocalist Elyse Perez. In additio
n to the usual electronic noise and ranting vocals, certain tracks
also feature delicate experimental soundscapes and even some beats.
One of E.S.P.'s ten short tracks, "Yoko OvO", includes Elyse's vocal
ode to Stefania. Alexandra Kohl makes a guest appearance. The
packaging features several impressive photos from a notorious
November 2004 show in Oakland -- the last of 15 shows the two bands
played together on their respective 2004 US Tours -- on a bill which
included No Doctors, Unconditional Loathing, and Stooges sax player
Steve Mackey. An edition of only 500 copies" - co-released with 8mm,
Apop, Bar La Muerta, Bastardized and Little Mafia.

Most recent Carbon releases:

Kelli Shay Hicks - Bucked (CD) - Carbon Records $5.00
a great little EP from Kelli Shay Hicks, clocking in at just under
10min. 3 field recordings of Kelli Shay's amazingly delicate, but
sharp, songs-- recorded by Jem Cohen in abandonded urban spaces off
the hi-ways of upstate New York. "Kelli Hicks is well versed in the
timeless. While her minimalist finger picking style, gentle voice,
and wry lyrics recall the 'New Americana' movement, she’s not
pretending. When you see her play, it becomes clear: This is Kelli
Hicks’ music. Nothing else..." -- Chad Oliveiri, City Newspaper.
"Kelli Hicks has a voice to break your heart. Her music is haunting
and playful… I’m left quietly devastated." -Davey Rothbart, FOUND
Magazine. [packaged in a chip-board folder with 2-color silk-screen
artwork. co-release with Atone Records] - check out more info on
Kelli - www.kellishayhicks.com

40min+ of top-notch electronic performance/composition from this
musician/writer from Rochester NY. this release includes pieces based
on live collaborations with various individuals throughout as well as
solo pieces, recorded between 2001 and 2005 . the tracks range from
static-driven compositions to organic pastoral drones, including
guitar, piano, voice, electronics, etc. Chad also has a collaborative
release with Brannon Hungness (also featured on this release) coming
out on Entr'acte (UK) this spring (2006). [heavy duty vinyl cover,
with full color insert and "prism" overlay. factory-colored CDR]

Arthur Doyle - No More Evil Women TOUR CD (CDR) - Carbon Records $10.00

ohm (Japan), Hippie Overdose and more.

adam mokan/will soderberg/roxanne jean polise - 2006 tour CDR (CDR) -
arrosa zuria sarea $8.00
3-way split tour CDR from these noise/sound constructionists. this
was the tour that brought in the police.

Alfredo Costa Monteiro - Z = 78 ( pt : 195.09 ) (CDR) - Audiobot $12.00
"Alfredo Costa Monteiro has been challenging the borders of
improvised music since '95, exploring visual arts, visual poetry and
sound. His radical use of minimal objects blew a weird hole in my
mind when he performed in the FeF store a few weeks back, scraping
the accordion surface with dense flames in the eyes. He has peformed
with a seemingly endless list of players such as Peter Kowald,
Mattin, Margarida Garcia, Mark Wastell, Giuseppe Ielasi, Ernesto
Rodrigues, Masahiko Okura, ... If that summary didn't wet your
appetite, his sound has been released on international labels as
Antifrost, Creative Sources, Rossbin, A Bruit Secret, Hibari and
Sound 323. Packaged in double sided fold-out covers, by Edward
Maddison in an edition of only 110 copies. File under = twisted
elbows and unpredictable behaviour."

Ashtray Navigations - Four More Raga Moods (CD) - Ikuisuus $15.00
"Mmmm my mouth is watering at the prospect of listening to this with
one look at the various underground luminaries involved: Ben
Reynolds, Pete Nolan, Andy Jarvis, Alex Neilson, Chris Hladowski
(Nalle / Scatter), Mel Delaney and of course Phil Todd. Do I really
need to write anymore?! The album opens with its only raga, an
acoustic duet from Reynolds and Jarvis, heavily warped by analogue
delay. "Hey Sunflower Motherfucker" has Todd's sun-seeking guitar
working its way through thick waves of wow. "The Pete Nolan Effect"
is a deep pool of drone (once the microphone returns from its wind-
blasted trip outside!) as is the immensely atmospheric final track
which sounds like the inners of a dank, dark cave." - Boa Melody Ba

Bardo Pond - Ticket Crystals (CD) - ATP Recordings $14.00
" Philadelphia's Bardo Pond return in June 2006 with Ticket Crystals
-- their sixth studio album and second for ATP Recordings. Completing
a trilogy of work -- first embarked on with 2001's Dilate and
centered with 2003's On the Ellipse -- Ticket Crystals resumes the
quintet's signature doom tempo, multi-layered drones; while
introducing a lighter pastoral, even Tudor-like feel, which rallies
throughout against the band's youthful riff petulance. Recorded over
two years at the band's home studio, a handful of the tracks first
came to light on Bardo Pond's 2003 live UK dates alongside kindred
spirits and former label mates, Mogwai. Tracking down the elusive
balance between extensive improvisation and acutely structured
arrangements, Ticket Crystals includes the spellbinding
"Moonshine" (a ten-minute plus ethereal expedition that immediately
recalls the acoustic intricacy of Led Zeppelin III coupled with the
contemporary quirkiness of Cocorosie) and live favorite and album open
er, "Destroying Angel," which only just manages to contain the sheer
force of the brothers Gibbons' amplification and vocalist and
flautist Isobel Sollenberger's haunting and occasionally terrifying
tones. Also featured on the album is the band's unique reworking of
The Beatles' White Album classic, "Cry Baby Cry," which was
originally recorded for and broadcast by the BBC as part of their
commemoration of the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death."

Brekekekexkoaxkoax - we used to be such good friends (0) - Hushroom
Recordings $10.00
From Austin TX, an open-ended art music collective focusing on
improvisational, indeterminate performances using sound, visuals and
movement. Brekekekexkoaxkoax has been recently performing as a
quartet with Jacob Green (oboe, organ, electonics), Josh Ronsen
(guitar, clarinet, computer), Glen Nuckolls (guitars, banjo, violin),
Genevieve Walsh (flute, drums, voice) and sometimes Jason Pierce
(organ, cello, drums). Rick Reed, Travis Weller, Josh Russell, Brent
Fariss, Alex Keller, Bill Thompson, Vanessa Arn and Elizabeth Warren
have also participated in recent events. other releases on RRRecords,
Beta-Lactam, phonography, and many more.

Chad Oliveiri and Figure - the complete detachment (CDR) - Audiobot
$12.00
"A complete brain submission that detaches your head, captures faces
and rewires them into an undefined human-hybrid. Like falling asleep
under an alien radar-post and losing track of all earthly life around
you while analog-synth fumes drag your lungs into the zone. Puzzle
solving mode with no solutions. Both Oliveiri and Figure love
drinking strange fluids and further exploring the mysteries of life.
Packaged in full color fold-out covers by none other than Carlos
Pitchphase, in an edition of only 65 copies. File under = alienating
upheaval."

Chad Oliveiri and Figure - Celest (CDR) - Entr'acte $16.00
"Chad Oliveiri and Brannon Hungness (Figure) are friends from
Rochester, upstate New York. Their sounds are improvised, and some of
them are recorded. Celest is a collection of a few recent bits
Brannon painfully edited together in his bedroom." [packaged in a
sealed anti-static-type package. must destroy to open]

Doug Theriault / Kathleen Keogh - Broken Flowers (CDR) - Audiobot $12.00
"Based in Portland, Oregon, Doug uses varied organic and electronic
sound instrumentation, concrete sounds, voice, light gradients
(sensors), space and performative movement in connection with
architecture and notation systems. He has concentrated his efforts on
building an instrument for controlling sound through light via MIDI
programming and real-time light changes. From a wave of the hand in
midair to the guitar’s own internal feedback, signals produced from
the guitar are manipulated and replayed in unpredictable,
unrepeatable permutations through the use of gestural controllers and
the software program LiSa. On this sonic excursion he performs as
part of a duo with vocalist and choreographer Kathleen Keogh, here on
dictaphone and voice. Packaged in full color covers by Tisbo, in an
edition of only 75 copies. File under = abstract improv mutilation"

Esther Venrooy - shift coordinate points (LP) - Entr'acte $16.00
[First edition of 300 copies] “K9 moved back into the combat area —
Standing now in the Chinese youth sent the resistance message jolting
clicking tilting through the pinball machine — Enemy plans exploded
in a burst of rapid calculations — Clicking in punch cards of
redirected orders —Crackling shortwave static — Word falling — Photo
falling — Break through in Grey Room – Pinball led streets – Free
doorways –” "In 1997, British maverick label Irdial-Discs collected a
selection of so-called ‘numbers stations’ or ‘spy stations’
recordings under the title The Conet Project. This plays like a ‘best
of’ of more than 30 years’ worth of secret radio and contains
fragments of American, German, Swedish and Russian transmissions.
Belgian composer Esther Venrooy was given permission to work with the
material and for the occasion of the celebration of 75 years of
Belgian radio created a highly personal interpretation of the
medium’s secret history. Using manipulated sound and collage te
chniques she manages to distill an abstract poetry of sounds and
thereby succeeds in extracting some meaning out of these hermetic
transmissions."

Joe Gilmore and George Rogers - Elseif (3inch CDR) - Entr'acte $16.00
"Six computer music compositions using dynamic stochastic synthesis
-- a technique developed by the Greek composer Iannis Xenakis, which
uses probability fluctuations to generate the successive sample
values in digital waveforms." [packaged in a sealed anti-static-type
package. must destroy to open]

Joe+N - lock32 (CDR) - Carbon Records $8.00
a release inspired by the cyclical patterns of lock32 on the Erie
Canal System. Joe+4 is Joe Tunis of Hilkka‘s solo joint. Covering
mostly ambient and stark trajectories with guitar, static, found
sounds and lots of effects. This release conjures up a brooding and
unnerving atmosphere. Some tracks might bring to mind Jandek or Loren
Mazzacane Connors at their most lonesome and desolate. The original
edition came in deluxe hand made packaging incorporating actual
pebbles from the Erie Canal. A compelling listen.

loopool - useless unless (CDR) - Arbor $8.00

Loren Connors - Night Through (3CD) - Family Vineyard $23.00
"Essential 3CD collection of singles by avant blues guitarist Loren
(nee Mazzacane) Connors, one of America's most unique and challenging
voices. Night Through spans four decades of Connors' recordings from
the earliest acoustic session and first solo 7" -- 'Ribbon o' Blues
on St. Joan' -- to rare singles issued By Table Of The Elements, Road
Come, Father Yod, Menlo Park, Gyttia, Union Pole, and others, to his
late '90s band Haunted House and recent acoustic recordings. Overall,
three and half hours of music: 12 7" singles, private CD-R releases,
collaborations with Suzanne Langille, Robert Crotty, and Haunted
House, compilation appearances, and 22 unreleased pieces including a
1959 recording by Connors' mother Mary Mazzacane. 24-page color
booklet contains detailed notes and cover art for each single, never
before seen photographs, an essay by renowned blues scholar Dr.
William Ferris and commentary from Connors, Langille, Road Cone's
Mike Hinds and others. Remastered from t
he original tapes by Jim O'Rourke, this is the definitive overview of
Connors' journey as the consummate solo artist from embryonic origins
in New Haven, CT to the rise as a monumental presence and spirit
channeler. Whether considered avant garde or pure spirit haunt,
Connors' guitar speaks purely from the soul in solo settings or with
his revered collaborations with the likes of Alan Licht, Jandek,
Keiji Haino, Christina Carter, Langille, O'Rourke, Kath Bloom and
John Fahey."

Loren Connors - Sails (2CD) - table of the elements $16.00
"To accompany guitarist Loren Connors (nee Mazzacane) is to discover
a strange and forgotten America, then venture irreversibly beyond.
Connors is frequently pegged as an avant bluesman, and the blues are
never far from the surface of his art -- but what a shimmering
surface it is! The brevity and lyricism of his improvisations bear
the mark of haiku; the floating, expressionist tones reflect the
influence of Mark Rothko; and as he conjures keening Celtic wails,
Connors offers himself as medium to the ghosts of New York City Past.
With Sails, Connors enters the third decade of such intimate
explorations. In the course of these two discs, we pass through
saturated phrasings, slowly undulating drones, doldrumic
introspection and squalls of white noise. The penultimate highlight
is a duet with Connors' aesthetic compadre, the late, great John
Fahey. It's an intuitive and seemingly predestined meeting of two
enlightened fellow-travelers: wily Fahey as the Dr. Livingstone of raw A
mericana to Connors' indefatigable Stanley. For his own part, Connors
can evoke more clarity and purity in a short cluster of notes than
most of his shred-happy contemporaries can muster in a lifetime --
and with Fahey's passing, he may be justifiably considered this
country's greatest living guitarist. Ultimately, Loren Connors path,
while not for the timid, is one of unspeakable treasure: a journey to
the heart of brightness; a quest to penetrate a Terra Incognita of
the soul."

Lutnahimat - Kleine Mietzekatze (3inch CD) - Entr'acte $8.00
[packaged in a sealed anti-static-type package. must destroy to open]

Mahmoud Refat - Mirarmar (CDR) - 100 Copies $12.00
"100COPIES is a music label based in Cairo/Egypt, releasing music
from Egypt, the Arab world and International. 100COPIES is focusing
on experimental music, noise and sound. Including other genres will
be active with the local artists from Egypt. The recent work of
Mahmoud Refat is based on memories of locations and situations that
have been experienced between 2002 and 2005. Working with the raw
sound material and field recordings that have been recorded in the
past 3 years, and dealing with them in the present time and state of
mind. 'It is is always fascinating what I find in my older sound
material, and how I recognize them. It opens all possibilities to
those hidden aspects and emotions of one regular reality,' Refat
says. In Miramar Refat wants to pay attention to the inconsiderable
sounds and patterns that has been part of his/other's daily life at
the time. As you hear a call for prayer or a voice of a woman passing
by, or the sound of a portable power station driftin
g in through the window on a normal day, then hearing it through
speakers after some years. Would you react in the same way? It is to
expand a person's perception of the surrounding space. Using the drum
patterns in Track 3 ('Miramari') and track 7 ('2nd April2006') and
keeping them on a repetitive loop. Was a slight drift towards the
recognizable and familiarity. In Miramar Refat found a new language
to present a musical abstraction and make it possible to the common
listeners."

My Cat is an Alien - The secret of the Dancing Snow (CD) - Ikuisuus
$15.00
"Another voyage into the inky blackness with the cosmos-loving
Italians and another gem. MCIAA have gone from making dronescapes
that were merely beautiful to listen to (merely!) to vast vistas of
sound that seem to exert an almost gravitational pull into their
depths. This opens with Roberto Opalio's parched vocal trances and
the calming ching of Oriental bells and builds into a soporific sea
of echoing guitar notes with bells rippling through it like a warm
wind. For some reason, the line from "Astronomy Domine" about "the
blue you once knew" comes to mind. The sound then appears to collapse
in on itself before ebbing into freefall. Divinely beautiful." - Boa
Melody Bar

Nkondi - farewellhorizontal (3inch CDR) - Audiobot $8.00
"Nkondi are representations of the nkisi spirits who try to deter
witches, evil-doers and others whose aim is to upset social harmony.
Think bad haircut and harsh steel balls. He's has been messing up
Portland leaving numerous people injured. Last thing i heard he moved
back to the lower Zaïre region to perform wood, metal, pigments,
mirror and leopard claws. Piercing merciless stabs and fast
affirmative pedal action. Packaged in mini zebra inspired fold-out
covers by Zeloot in an edition of only 55 copies. Not only is this a
handy pocket jam, also hands down the best Nkondi artwork you're
gonna find this side of the moon. Finders keepers - sleepers suck.
File under = restless harsh molotov."

Oscillating Innards - Irretrievable (7inch) - PacRec $5.00
"Debut 7" from west coast harsh noise/ambient madman Oscillating
Innards. Abrasive walls of junk & crunch, tranquil & melodic drone,
and obsessive structured compositions recorded in autumn of 2005.
Silk-screened covers, edition of 300. Co-released with Iatrogenesis
and Black Horizons."

Pengo - Cosmology of the Broken Saints (CDR) - Hippie Overdose $8.00
"Limited to 90 copies tour CD-R from these beautifully crude avant
rock pugilists. Two long tracks. First track is a massively vacated
gaze through nowhere with the sound of Pere Ubu rehearsing in a
subway tunnel broadcast at minimal volume via interstellar shortwave.
Track two has a great Dead C plays Popol Vuh devotional magic feel."
- Volcanic Tongue

Phi Ta Khon - Ghosts of Isan (DVD) - Sublime Frequencies $19.00
" Masks and outfits made of coconut husks, rice steamers, shredded
rags and clanging bells transform participants of Thailand's Phi Ta
Khon festival into ghosts, devils, demons, and spirits unleashed for
a bacchanal. Outrageous wooden phalluses and plenty of rice whiskey
heighten licentious behavior as Mo Lam -- Thai country groove music
-- blasts from makeshift bands in the back of pickup trucks.
Described as "The Mardi Gras from Hell" and "Thai Halloween," Phi Ta
Khon is a ghost festival that takes place every year in the Isan
province of Northern Thailand. Meaning "ghosts with human eyes" or
"ghosts follow people," Phi Ta Khon features magnificent costumes,
ornate masks, decorative phallic icons, strange ceremonies, drinking,
dancing, and endless addictive Mo Lam music in higher doses than most
souls can process. A mind-blowing and obscure tradition hidden within
the Indochine peninsula. Filmed on location by Robert Millis and
Richard Bishop in June 2004, Phi Ta Khon: Ghos
ts of Isan, is shot from the perspective of a participant, ensuring
an intense and immersive experience for the viewer. The DVD includes
an 8-page insert with extensive liner notes, full color images and a
short bonus film of Thai spirit house details (spirit houses are
everywhere in Thailand and are said to be the abodes of departed
loved ones, relatives and guardian spirits). Robert Millis is a
member of Climax Golden Twins and also created the Harmika Yab Yum:
Folk Sounds of Nepal CD for Sublime Frequencies in 2005." NTSC format
for North America, all regions, color, 75 minutes."

Pumice - Pipi's / Onion Union (7inch) - CMR $14.00
"lathe-cut 7" record - edition of 60 copies - blue textured paper
outer sleeve, brown paper inner sleeve. Two fantastic live tracks by
Stefan Neville recorded in 2005 at two of New Zealands best bars.
Sits in the noisier spectrum of the Pumice career which spans
probably 15 years or so. Collectable and probably already gone."

Rhys Chatham - Die Donnergotter (The Thundergods) (CD) - table of the
elements $15.00
"Rhys Chatham altered the DNA of rock. The New York-born composer
began as a classically-trained prodigy, but by 1975, Chatham was
fusing the overtone-drenched minimalism of John Cale and Tony Conrad
with the relentless, elemental fury of the Ramones. It was an
inspired amalgamation -- the textural intricacies of the avant-garde
colliding with the visceral punch of electric guitar-slinging punk
rock -- and with it Chatham created a new type of urban music.
Raucous and ecstatic, this sound energized the downtown New York
scene throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, prefigured the No
Wave movement and cast a huge influence over the subsequent work of
Chatham's many protegees, including Glenn Branca and future members
of Sonic Youth. This release contains all of Chatham's best work of
the period, from the notorious 'Guitar Trio' (1977) and the
tumultuous, brass-based 'Massacre on MacDougal Street' (1982), to the
soaring, euphoric masterpiece, 'Die Donnergotter' (1986). The a
ccompanying 32-page book features rare photos plus essays by Chatham,
Tony Conrad and Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, as well as artwork by
famed visual artist Robert Longo. Now widely available for the first
time, these tracks vividly document those glorious years in the life
of a city and a milieu in which the raw, the sophisticated and the
danceable merged, and a new era of rock was born."

Rhys Chatham - Die Donnergotter (The Thundergods) (2LP) - table of
the elements $21.00
Double LP version, gatefold jacket. "Rhys Chatham altered the DNA of

created a new type of urban music. Raucous and ecstatic, this sound
energized the downtown New York scene throughout the late 1970s and
early 1980s, prefigured the No Wave movement and cast a huge
influence over the subsequent work of Chatham's many protegees,
including Glenn Branca and future members of Sonic Youth. This
release contains all of Chatham's best work of the period, from the
notorious 'Guitar Trio' (1977) and the tumultuous, brass-based
'Massacre on MacDougal Street' (1982), to the soaring, euphoric
masterpie
ce, 'Die Donnergotter' (1986). The accompanying 32-page book features
rare photos plus essays by Chatham, Tony Conrad and Sonic Youth's Lee
Ranaldo, as well as artwork by famed visual artist Robert Longo. Now
widely available for the first time, these tracks vividly document
those glorious years in the life of a city and a milieu in which the
raw, the sophisticated and the danceable merged, and a new era of
rock was born."

Rhys Chatham - An Angel Moves Too Fast to See (CD) - table of the
elements $15.00
"By the late 1980s, Rhys Chatham was chafing against the logistical
and financial constraints imposed upon him in the States; in his mind
was a vast, unprecedented sound. Moving permanently from New York to
Paris, Chatham began composing his masterpiece, a piece for one
hundred electric guitars, electric bass and drums. The result, An
Angel Moves Too Fast to See, is one of the most extraordinary works
in the minimalist canon, one that demonstrates the majesty inherent
in Chatham's amplified imagination. Now widely available for the
first time, this lavish CD presents this sonic revolution in all its
glory, and cements Chatham's reputation as a monolithic figure
astride both rock and classical musics."

Seafoam Green - happy days / f*ck you, mom (CASS) - Arbor $6.00
"two bored kids + an overwhelming amount of musical equipment =
seafoam green. neither of these kids dislike their mothers, i just
want to make sure that you know that. they actually happen to love
them very much. this 10 minute recording is divided into two tracks
for the two sides of your standard cassette tape. the first track is
an instrumental happy romp filled with synth blasts and guitar
strums. the second side however delves into the darkness of teenage
angst in an instrumenal un-happy romp filled with synth blasts and
guitar strums. side b is those late nights filled with too much
homework. there should be vocals on this, but the mic wasnt working.
recorded straight to 4track with patch cable drums added later.
limited to 16 copies(because thats how old these kids are) in tape
cases w/ a little slip band thing and with ocean sprayed tapes and a
graph paper insert."

Sunao Inami - an impulse of acoustic (CD) - electr-ohm $15.00
"The music made by improvisation sound sketch and cut up,after that
editing and constituting that it same method of his album "DELAYED",
but a greatly different matter from before is the following, the
multiple use of the irregular beats by the samples chopped up by
filtering and Granular synthesis especiall with a complicated thing
characteristic this time. The sounds influence from IDM and glitch or
electronica stuff of these days, and also German electronics or
experimental of the 70s and the early '80s industrial music. Sunao
used NI Reaktor 4,Absynth,Ableton Live4, Waldorf synthesizers mainly."

Sunao Inami - Delayed (CD) - electr-ohm $15.00
""DELAYED" by Sunao Inami is the latest in a strong line of releases
on his own electr-ohm label, established about 3 years ago. Sunao
Inami's music's main strength lies in repetition, but where the
"poison" lies is different every time: electronics, glitch, techno,
noise, ambient; the result of recent years of progression, digression
and collaboration from which he's gained impetus, irritation and
motivation. By soaking up these sensations, he has arrived at his
most recent sound. Inami embraces the thrill of improvisation on the
PowerbookG4 and the feeling of tension and composition from the
newest DSP recording methods and any and every editing process. For
"Delayed" he used a Waldorf synth for hardware, and mainly Reaktor4,
Live, Spark, Logic6 and Protools for software. Otherwise spoons and
other kitchen utensils. Future plans include collaborations with
American and European musicians, who have previously contributed
audio fragments to Inami's many other rojects via his
busy ftp server."

Sunao Inami - repeater (CD) - electr-ohm $15.00
"Sunao Inami's 1st solo album. He going through '70s electronic music
to 21st century's electronica. Almost sounds made by Wavetable
synthesis (PPG Wave and Waldorf synths),and realtime looping methods,
DSP based synthesis and analog modular synthesis exist together."

Various Artists - Radio Algeria (CD) - Sublime Frequencies $13.00
"Radio Algeria is a multi-dimensional assembly of audio culture from
the Mediterranean coast to the undefined border areas of the Sahara
Desert and beyond. This is perhaps the most diverse collection of the
Algerian listening experience ever presented featuring raw Berber
folk, modern Arabic pop, sacred Islamic traditional, Andalusian
orchestral, Guesba (the origin of Rai), classic early Rai, Khabyle,
Tuareg, Saharaui, and hybrid music styles influenced by Europeans to
the north and sub-Saharan Africa to the south. The presence of French
culture is a relevant factor in some of these tracks as modern
history would suggest and the language is still spoken by a large
portion of the population. No English is spoken on Algerian-produced
radio. Collected, assembled and edited in 2005 from AM, FM, and
shortwave broadcasts recorded in Algeria, there are radio finds here
that defy categorization. Excerpts of bumper music, DJ announcements,
advertisements, and radio station IDs reinfor
ce the transitions between the musical segments throughout this
production."

Various Artists - Radio Thailand: Transmissions from the Tropical
Kingdom (2CD) - Sublime Frequencies $15.00
" This 2CD set is an exhaustive collection of Thai Radio
transmissions recorded over a 15-year period from 1989 to 2004. These
23 collage tracks have been assembled and distilled from dozens of
cassette and mini-disc recordings captured on location from the
capital of Bangkok to Chaing Mai and Isan Province in the north to
Hat Yai in the south. The music presented here is relentlessly
mystifying and seductive: Molam, Luk Thung, Kantrum, folk and pop,
classic Thai guitar rock, antique ballads, novelty tunes, traditional
ceremonial music and other miscellaneous styles rarely heard outside
the Kingdom. Also featured are various commercials, DJs, radio IDs,
news reports, mysterious folk radio, language lessons, sacred chants,
bumper cues and plenty of audio anomalies only the sheer genius of
Thai Radio can supply. Tune in to the amazing audio experience of
Thailand's Tropical Kingdom!"

Various Artists - Ethnic Minority Music of Northeast Cambodia (CD) -
Sublime Frequencies $13.00
" For the first time ever from this part of the world, here is a
recording that documents the ceremonial animist music from the
mysterious tribal villages of Northeast Cambodia. The Tampoans,
Krungs, Kavets, Braos, and Jaraîs of Ratanakiri Province and the
Phnongs in Mondolkiri Province have been living amidst each other in
this region for centuries, preserving and expanding their unique
cultural heritage, sometimes at peace and other times in conflict
with one another or with foreign invaders. The music includes
hypnotic gong ensembles, guitar ballads, bamboo flute and unique
local instrumentation such as the gungteng (a 10-string instrument
comprised of a bamboo tube holding 10 metallic strings with a dried
gourd as resonator) and the mum (a unique one-string Krung instrument
bowed with a bamboo using the mouth as a resonator, attached by a
string between the instrument and the mouth). The superb singing
styles and vocals present throughout are absolutely mesmerizing. These
tracks sound like nothing you've heard before, all magnificently
documented, transporting the listener into the heart of each
performance. Recorded on location by Laurent Jenneau over a 2-year
period from 2003-2005 with his revealing liner notes and a detailed
tracklist included within."

Various Artists - Imaginational Anthem Volume Two (CD) - Tompkins
Square $13.00
"Released in October 2005, Imaginational Anthem Volume One featured
two generations of important acoustic guitarists, from John Fahey and
Sandy Bull to Jack Rose and Kaki King. Volume Two expands and builds
on this theme with 70+ more minutes of guitar magic -- all previously
unreleased on CD in the US. 23-year old UK 12-string upstart James
Blackshaw opens the record, while the late master Robbie Basho, a
clear influence on Blackshaw's style, closes it. Basho's track is the
only live recording by this groundbreaking guitarist ever released.
Riches abound on Imaginational Anthem Vol Two, with new recordings by
former Takoma roster alumni Peter Lang (who made an album with John
Fahey and Leo Kottke), Billy Faier (an original Greenwich Village
folkie whose late '50s Riverside records inspired a fellow crack
banjo player, Steve Martin) and an archival home recording by Fred
Gerlach (a favorite of Jimmy Page). The new breed is well-represented
by fascinating figures of today -- S
mith, Carter, Sparhawk, Kraus, Rose and Blackshaw. Legendary singer/
songwriter Michael Chapman, whose first albums for the Harvest label
in the '60s are now seeing the light again, contributes as well."

Various Artists - Imaginational Anthem (CD) - Tompkins Square $13.00
"Imaginational Anthem brings together pioneering acoustic guitar
heroes of the '60s and '70s alongside a new generation of amazing
players. Nearly 70 minutes of archival, live and newly recorded
studio tracks -- some by artists who haven't released any music in
decades. Plus a deluxe booklet with producer's notes and never before
seen photographs. A solo guitar extravaganza! Imaginational Anthem
features 16 tracks, 14 of which are previously unreleased, and nine
of which were recorded specifically for the project. As evidenced by
the recent success of experimental neo-folk troubadours like Six
Organs, Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, there's a strong interest
in psychedelic folk sounds, both old and new. This compilation of
solo acoustic gems spans 40 years and bridges two generations of
guitar masters, from legends Sandy Bull and John Fahey to modern
practitioners like Jack Rose and Kaki King." Artists: Max Ochs, Jack
Rose, Glenn Jones, Sean Smith, Bern Nix, Harris Newman
, Brad Barr, Jesse Sparhawk,Sandy Bull, John Fahey, Bob Hadley, Kaki
King, Steve Mann, Suni McGrath, Gyan Riley, Janet Smith and Harry
Taussig."

U. Srinivas, Krishnan & Vijaylakshmi Lagudi, Sanjay Subramanium, Dr.
Ramani & others. Full color paste-on sleeve, very limited

land of ragas and talas. Ancient mystical music. Field recordings
from the South of India that embody a psychedelic soul so deeply
seeded that few Westerners have ever matched. Take a tab of something
strong / stay away from the mirror / grow roots.""
