the Boston area and records all sorts of sounds, guitars, tibeten
bowls, cymbals, strings, etc. he was featured on the Carbon 3CD
compilation I Don't Think the Dirt Belongs to the Grass and won this
praise from Keith Fullerton Whitman: "there’s something on here for
everyone... and in fact you might end up, like myself, enjoying just
about everything on this set, from the pieces by the names you know/
trust to those by otherwise unknowns (for example; i didn’t know john
charlton’s name, but his acoustic guitar/tibetan singing bowls/wine
glasses piece on here ended up being one of my favorite pieces.)".
This full length is a study in guitar, from repetitive/looping
acoustic and clean electric with incidental backgrounds, to busy
hammering/drumming/droning on an acoustic, to warbly electric mood
(ala LMC), to full-on saturated noise/drone. to m

New Releases since 3/14/2007 (29 items)
======================================

Antique Brothers - Emerge, Murky Sunlight (CDR) - Phantom Limb $7.00
"Volume five of this duo's phenomenal acoustic guitar manipulations,
this is actually only their second release. Following the critically
acclaimed debut release on the House of Alchemy, this album finds the
brothers in a much more communicative and realized state. For fans of
Six Organs of Admittance and Clipse alike."

David Kendell - Triumph of Individuality (CDR) - gameboy $8.50
"The title for this one is most appropriate as Mr. Kendall's work and
vision rest in a realm all his own. Working with digital noise in a
time when the genre titans are dusting off their analog gear again,
Kendall's intense programming stands out, but it stands tall.
Combining elements of improvisation, composition, field recordings
and pure noise, Kendall's work is both sharp and vivid. This one is
crisp. Analog purists beware. CDR edition of 100."

Durán Vázquez - Ghetto, Borghetto (CDR) - Carbon Records $8.00
"It is a work that arose from the experimentation with software
effects, and in a very intuitive way." Durán is a Spanish noise
artist, with releases on Alg-a netlabel and Crónica.

almost sound like the tribute release(s) Sub Rosa did years ago for
philospher Gilles Deleuze. [packaged in spray-painted slim jewel case
with spray painted cdr]

Fantastic Ego - Ego Trip the Light Fantastic (CDR) - Phantom Limb $7.00
"From Ged Gengras (Antique Brothers) comes this accomplished take on
the new wave pop song ("Down in the Park") and some inspired no wave
guitar and sonica instrumentals. For fans of Current 93 and any Beta-
Lactam Ring releases"

High Tones for the Winter Fashion - s/t (CD) - Textile $16.50
"An excellent dynamic and percussion compilation electric and
electronic with Alma Fury (moog and sampler). Alma Fury + Otomo
Yoshihide (platinums and electronic) + Otani Yasuhiro (computer).
Xavier Charles (electronic radio vibrating surfaces) +"w

Joe+N - head cold (3inch CDR) - Dirty Demos $7.00
2 pieces recorded live at A|V in Rochester NY USA. loud guitar with
distorted and looped melodica. almost sounds like a train at times.

Martin Tetreault / Xavier Charles and Pierre Tangu - s/t (LP) -
Textile $13.00
"Xavier Charles -- Heąs working with many different people and style
of music (improvised music, noisy, electroacoustic, sound poetry) :
Martin Tetreault, The Ex, Pierre Berthet, Etage 34, Axel Dörner,
Jacques Di Donato, Jérôme Jeanmart, John Butcher, Jean Pallandre,
Marc Pichelin, Cris Cutler, Martine Altenburger, Frédéric Le Junter,
Camel Zekri, Emmanuelle Pellegrini, Michel Doneda, Frédéric BlondyS
Heąs now working on a system including clarinet, prepared bass, and
vibrating speakers with different collectivs : Kristoff K.roll,
Ossatura, La FlibusteSHe also organizes «Densités» a new music
festival in Verdun . Martin Tetreault -- The First Martin Tetreault
Vinyle Release. Martin Tétreault, an internationally-renowned
Montreal DJ and improviser, originally came from the milieu of the
visual arts. His path has been marked out by various productions on
compact disc and live performances with a range of collaborators:
Diane Labrosse, René Lussier, Jean Derome, Michel F. Côté,
I8U, Otomo Yoshihide, Kevin Drumm, Xavier Charles, Ikue Mori, and
many more. He has abandoned the musical citation that he had been
using in his work since he began in 1985 and now explores the
intrinsic qualities of the turntable: the sound of the motor, of
interference, and so on. He also uses needles, prepared surfaces
(with thanks to John Cage), and small electronic instruments. The
bruitiste approach of remaining analogical has allowed him to leave
behind the question But what about royalties? and to get himself
invited to electronic-music events! When he feels the need for a
break from music, he goes back to the visual arts, where he sands,
scrapes, cuts up books and magazines, and so on. Pierre Tanguay -- A
percussionist, composer and inveterate inventor, Pierre Tanguay’s
music shows the wide range of his experience in ancient and
contemporary music, jazz, and music for dance, theatre and cinema.
Born in Quebec City in 1957, he has devoted himself to music full-
time s!
ince 1978. He plays with some twenty established groups, such as
Dangereux Zhoms, Évidence, Castor et compagnie and Karen Young, and
is the founder of Strada, Midi Tapant and Derome Tanguay Danse. He
has produced five albums and collaborated closely on some fifty
others, and has more than twenty compositions for dance (Lucie
Grégoire, Andrew Harwood, Irčne Stamou and Francine Gagné) and a
number for theatre and film (Allan Booth, Imago and Roberto
Ariganello) to his credit. He regularly tours throughout Canada and
Europe."

Michael R. Bernstein and Mike Shiflet - Live, New York (CDR) -
gameboy $8.50
"ynthesizer, laptop and beard power combined for the second time in
September, 2006. Invited to play the ErstQuake festival by Joh Abbey
& Chris Wolf, Bernstein & Shiflet hit the stage for a set focused
solely on modulation and movements, not exactly what the crowd wanted
to hear. Post-festival internet responses ranged from "pretty boring
with little to engage me" to "my least favourite set of the fest" to
" not at all into [it]". One or two people may have also had
something good to say.The fellas hiding behind the computer screen
and the overly large synth stand behind it 100% though. Expect more
(studio recordings) from this duo in the not-so-distant future. CDR
edition of 100."

Oren Ambarchi and Scott Horscroft / Hado Ho - s/t (LP) - Textile $13.00
"Finaly available!!!!! Textile is proud to announce the fourth
installment in its split 12" series, Oren Ambarchi / Hado Ho."

PBK and BMG - 1 (CDR) - gameboy $8.50
"Michigan master PBK has been making beautifully composed noise since
I was in grade school and BMG - (aka Brent Gutzeit) should be known
to most as CEO of Television Power Electric and as an established
Kranky recording artist. These two have a wealth of knowledge in the
experimental music realm and skills with almost as much range. With
their vast combined talents, the gentlemen produce five uniquely
diverse works here, spanning the borders of various subgenres and
utlizing everything they could get their hands on. In their warped
world guitars become gongs, computers are transformed into human
hearts and vinyl breathes. Believe it. CDR edition of 100."

Peter Wright - crater lake (CDR) - Blackest Rainbow $12.00
"New disc from London based Peter Wright who recently travelled
around and played shows with Campbell on the Birchville Cat Motel UK
visit. Over 30 minutes of excellent drone, this starts with the
quietest 3 minutes ever and develops into a mind-shattering blister
of sound. Limited to 100 hand numbered copies. First 10 copies come
in parchment paper sleeves, the other 90 copies on brown or red
pastel paper."

POG - Mitote (CDR) - Flipped Out $8.00
"69 hallucinatory, ghostly and otherworldly minutes of solo freak
from this burnt hills member, recorded with bongos, floor drum,
triola, acoustic guitar, kiddie accordion, broken kiddie electric
guitar, cello, piano, electric guitar, kick drum, electric mandolin,
wah wah, giant metal tweezers, pocket rocket and little big muff on a
variety of boom boxes, tape decks and dictaphones with hand decorated
mini lp gatefold jackets and "vinyl" cdrs in an edition of 99 copies"

Poochlatz - thanks for giving in (CDR) - Something on the Road $10.00
"Combining elements of primitive power electronics and their
explorations into contemporary drone-metal territories, "Thanks for
Giving in" is the new live album from Israel's Poochlatz. Recorded in
July 2006, when opening to the Grave Temple Trio, Poochlatz are
bleak, sinister and iconoclastic than ever, mending and molding moral
conventions, slaughtering holy cows and questioning the truth only to
make it more vague and unreachable than it already is."

Rats - s/t (LP) - Textile $13.00
"After studies at Cambridge University and a Harkness Fellowship to
pursue a doctorate in Composition at the Eastman School of Music
(Rochester NY), Dan Warburton settled in Paris in 1988. "

Sapat - Mortise and Tenon (CD) - Siltbreeze $14.00
"Spawned from the formidable Louisville, KY collective known as Black
Velvet Fuckere (Valley Of The Ashes, Phantom Family Halo, Kark,
etc.), Sapat resides as the centrifugal force in this Midwestern
psychedelic madrigal set in the psychosexual backwaters of the mighty
Ohio River. For the entirety of the '00 decade, members have kept
busy collaborating with and/or massaging the egos of various and
sundry avant-pontiffs such as Robert Fripp, Magik Markers, Dead Child
(David Pajo's metal band. That's right, David Pajo!) and Eugene
Chadbourne -- when not honing the orgone energy of Sapat.
Acoustically packed to the gills, the octet effortlessly strums and
blows breezy vibes, emitting kosmisch melodies and Teutonic ambience
that channel -- Julian Cope-like -- past giants such as Limbus 4,
Siloah and Lord Krishna Von Goloka (you know, the A-Team of
Krautrock). Once you launch into the group's spacy and entrancing yet
calming and soothing asteroid belt, you might mistake the Ozarks
for the Alps if you're not careful."

Sewer Election - Last Breath (CDR) - gameboy $8.50
"Sweden's finest forgoes his usual dense harsh noise in favor of
equally dense dirty drones. It's still a wall of sound, but far from
impenetrable. This wall is more likely to crumble with the slightest
touch and leave you buried beneath the rubble. It's a different, but
equally effective, methond of simultaneous attack and defense. A
short but epic piece, "Last Breath" unravels in under 20 minutes, but
the coma it will induce is guaranteed to last for hours if not days.
Indeed this disc makes a perfect soundtrack for those precious
moments spent dying, living, or lingering anywhere between the two.
CDR edition of 100. Dedicated to Dagmar Lassander."

Sleepwalkers Local 242 - Things We Put Our Friends Through (3inch
CDR) - Phantom Limb $4.00
"18 minutes of drugged out bedroom folk strained through cheap
computers. Think Low on more pain killers and Newcastles. Comes in a
sickly sweet sky blue and clouds spraypainted plastic case, with
printed insert and spraypainted 3 inch cd-r"

Smegma withg Perry Robinson - live at No Fun Fest (LP) - qbico $17.00
"I used to buy and collect Smegma rockets when younger, so i'm really
happy to release an LP by this really far out band, especially since
they played with my friend Perry, who is one of the most versatile
musician i had ever met ! Smegma is a kind of cult mob in the US
experimental underground, based in Portland, Oregon, they started
back in the early 70's and got connections with the Los Angeles Free
Music Society (Tom Recchion, Joe Potts, Le Forte Four, Airways, Doo-
Dooettes, Ace Farren Ford and even The Residents); they also got an
amazing label called Pigface... here they played some jazz for the
year 3018..." [red vinyl, artwork by Ju Suk Reet Meate; with postcard
as insert, photos by Michael Muniak]

Souleyman - Highway Hassake (CD) - Sublime Frequencies $14.50
"Omar Souleyman is a Syrian musical legend. Since 1994, he and his
musicians have emerged as a staple of folk-pop throughout Syria, but
until now they have remained little known outside of the country. To
date, they have issued more than five-hundred studio and live-
recorded cassette albums which are easily spotted in the shops of any
Syrian city. Born in rural northeastern Syria, he began his musical
career in 1994 with a small group of local collaborators that remain
with him today. The myriad musical traditions of the region are
evident in their music. Here, classical Arabic mawal-style
vocalization gives way to high-octane Syrian dabke (the regional
folkloric dance and party music), Iraqi choubi and a host of Arabic,
Kurdish and Turkish styles, among others. This amalgamation is truly
the sound of Syria. The music often has an overdriven sound
consisting of phase-shifted Arabic keyboard solos and frantic
rhythms. At breakneck speeds, these shrill Syrian electronics play o
ut like forbidden Morse-code, but the moods swing from coarse and
urgent to dirgy and contemplative in the rugged anthems that comprise
Souleyman's repertoire. Oud, reeds, baglama saz, accompanying vocals
and percussion fill out the sound from track to track. Mahmoud Harbi
is a long-time collaborator and the man responsible for much of the
poetry sung by Souleyman. Together, they commonly perform the
"Ataba," a traditional form of folk poetry used in Dabke. On stage,
Harbi chain smokes cigarettes while standing shoulder to shoulder
with Souleyman, periodically leaning over to whisper the material
into his ear. Acting as a conduit, Souleyman struts into the audience
with urgency, vocalizing the prose in song before returning for the
next verse. Souleyman's first hit in Syria was Jani (1996) which
gained cassette-kiosk infamy and brought him recognition throughout
the country. Sublime Frequencies is honored to present the Western
debut of Omar Souleyman with this retrospective!
disc of studio and live recordings spanning 12 years of his
career, culled from cassettes recorded between 1994 and 2006. This
collection offers a rare glimpse into Syrian street-level folk-pop
and Dabke -- a phenomena seldom heard in the West, not previously
deemed serious enough for export by the Syrians and rarely, if ever,
included on the import agenda of worldwide academic musical committees."

Spectre Folk - Papa Smurf (CASS) - Abandon Ship $6.00
"Papa Smurf... was recorded last year at my summer palace in Bushwick
Brooklyn... It was part of a new experiment I was doing with
recording digitally straight to disc burner...and multitracking on
disc... I recorded 2 songs from a Don Cherry disc my friend David
Sauter, an avid bootleg disc trader, made for me... It's apparently
from some Italian t.v. show in the 70's... The next track is an
experiment with amp feedback ... plugging a lead from a headphone out
jack to the input of an amp... through some pedals and manipulation
the pure line feedback.. I recorded this digitally and added noise
guitar and tape effected drums digitally as well... The last song is
my best take of a popular Byrds song... a poorer version of which
ended up on my Ming Aralia cd... This Disc is dedicated to my friend
David Sauter who passed away last year on the 4th of july... and to
his wife Aleve and son Otis... Papa Smurf smiles down on you from
heaven..." - Pete Nolan

Sun / Hasslehound - s/t (LP) - Textile $13.00
"6th installement in our vinyl split series. This time, Sun (Oren
Ambarchi and Chris Townend) and Hassle Hound from Glasgow."

Thousands - Sand and Stone (CDR) - Phantom Limb $7.00
"Four seekers went into the Joshua Tree desert, armed with acoustic
instruments, battery powered amps, and a few bottles of whisky. As
night descended, the four huddled together and made up songs for
protection against the wild darkness. Eventually, it was the darkness
that feared the sound. This release is housed in a sturdy cardboard
pack, with many Bedazzled adornments"

Tumul - Tension Management (CDR) - Carbon Records $8.00
Tumul is Cameron Farash (aka Dr. Hamburger) and Joe Tunis (aka Joe+N,
etc), long lost twins. this is electronics, mics, bowls, samples,
etc. recorded at Penarrow Catacombs. [sprayed and stenciled cardstock

"The ninth 12" in our Textile Vinyl Series presents two key Norwegian
improvising bands, Ultralyd and Noxagt, that ensure the continued
relevance of the Norwegian avant-garde on an international level… two

voices, and peppers the whole mix with a slew of acoustic instruments
(from banjos to accordions to violins). This cd-r is protected from
