New Releases since 10/31/2007 (15 items)
======================================

Aaron Moore - The Accidental (CD) - Elsie and Jack $13.00
"as a founding member of the english experimental group volcano the
bear, aaron moore has been a part of creating some of the most
stimulating and diverse music of the last 10 years with releases on
nurse with wound’s united dairies label, and the american label, beta-
lactam ring records, to name but two. ‘the accidental’ is moore’s
first solo release and is in stark contrast to his drumming and vocal
work with volcano the bear. using such instrumentation as bowed and
beaten vibraphone, cymbal, chord organ, thumb piano and keyboard,
mainly concentrating with one instrument per track, moore has created
an album of mesmerizing beauty. shifting, woozy soundscapes, blurred
drones, soft conjuring, and deep meditations - perfect for late night
headphone trips. on ‘three guineas’, a keyboard is used to create a
new lullaby in which we are reminded of years past. the majority of
these recordings, made at his home in leicester on a digital 8 track
and one microphone in 2003 were inten
ded for an aborted collaboration with oren ambarchi. they then sat on
his machine for a year or so until, with the nagging of friends, he
set about doing something with them. some of the tracks, he felt,
needed the hand of another so he sent some tracks to friends andrew
liles, luke fowler and alex neilson to collaborate on. they in turn
sent the finished tracks back to moore where he set about editing
them for inclusion on ‘the accidental’. the title, ‘the accidental’
comes from the fact that were it not for the original aborted
collaboration attempt with ambarchi, moore would not have recorded
this music. moore is continuing his work with volcano the bear and
his new duo, dragon or emperor, as well as planning several
collaborations in the coming months. if a follow up to ‘the
accidental’ is to happen, then maybe it will be on purpose next time?!"

Arklight - Hell's Black Intelligence (CASS) - tanzprocesz $6.00
"psychedelic noise devil incantations. pre-industrial voodoo music.
C-30 packaged in golden handmade cardboard box. limited to 50
copies." -- REVIEW: Side One – Anatomy of hell - A typewriter forces
voodoo pins into glass. Corpse shadows rise up, soil dripping off
their bony shoulders, swaying robes, carrying plastic bags full of
metal. A chorus of tongue-less moans drift like heavy toxin, as the
contents of the bags are tipped into the jaws of an ever hungry
typewriter spitting sparks of gluttony. This rain of motorized limbs
twitch and scrape the horizon, making shapes - a haunted geometry of
dying spasms. Head-butted guitars to the kzzzzzz of cymbal, behind
every vocorded deflation crashes more mechanical debris as animal
heads float on a carpet of lice. Gnarling electrics creep though the
undergrowth like wire brambles, knotted petals that rot under their
own weight. Side two – Beyond Hypothermia - is a broken beatbox, its
batteries leaking into guitar string claws and gi
ddy disorientation. Drill piano death and dented wood, vocals drowned
in creamy scorch. Wire-wool tea cosy of illegible keyboard and
rotting reverbed gloom. My skin creeps in a tide-like motion to the
carnage, all those textures jostling for attention, making new
sensation, awaking perspectives. Fuck this is a gloriously strangled
tune. Never heard of Arklight before but that mix of Robedoor(esque)
texture and murky experimentation is a winner with me. Pushing doom
metal beyond the one chord reverb, all wrapped up in a suitably
tainted gold slipcase that is marred by slug trail scribble. -

él-g - Capitaine Présent #4 (DVDR) - tanzprocesz $7.00
"Capitaine Présent" is a subconscious audio-serial started in 2004 by
él-g. This Fourth episode is a film with Stolen images from google,
edited in a 20 minutes long futurist didactic movie with 300
different voices, inserts and orgasmic crescendos. It talks about
life, universe, teenagehood, theme parks, enterprises, synaptic links
and sweet skizophrenia. Tristan Tzara meets PizzaHut meets You. And
yeah it's french only because it's impossible to subtitle this
object, no place for it. Capitaine Présent #1-2-3 included for yr
never-ending audio pleasure. Totally queer pink plush handmade
packaging. 50 copies.

Bottomless Pit - Hammer of the Gods (CD) - Comedy Minus One $11.00
"Bottomless Pit was formed in the fall of 2005 by erstwhile Silkworm
members Tim Midgett and Andy Cohen. Their longtime friends Chris
Manfrin (Seam) and Brian Orchard (.22) complete the quartet. 2007
finds the group playing "their blues" - soulful, emotionally intense,
and often transcendent postpunk that is as inviting as it is bracing."

christian renou - ex-voto (CD) - Elsie and Jack $13.00
"Ex-Voto - a votive offering to a saint or divinity. ‘I see words’
With ‘ex-voto’, Christian Renou has forsaken his analogue machines to
encourage a fresh approach via digital technology. As Renou states in
his liner notes – he cannot escape narrative structures in his music
– his sounds are so evocative of soundtracks without an actual film –
encouraging the listener to conjure their own accompanying images.
Yes, it is incredibly melodic, hauntingly so, though at times this is
broken by shards of noise and implacable clicks. Midway through ‘ex-
voto’, alien beats provide a base for further evocative outpourings
of human vs. machine visions. The introduction of strings brings an
elegiac quality to the composition. Renou, when creating this
narrative, did not deny the ghosts of history in the name of
progress… The disintegration and contamination of a guitar motif
appears alongside chopped rhythms and often indistinguishable words.
These distant, half-remembered voices babble i
ncoherent noise which battle against the sweet, sweet cracked
melodies which pitter-patter and dance around your head. An
underlying, delicate metallic whirring plays against a near
indecipherable reverie, before the initial guitar melody rears its
head for a final time. Layer upon layer of hubble, bubble, toil, but
no trouble, ensures this body of work to be Renou’s masterpiece
[Frans de Waard / Vital claimed that this more melodic route was
something that he’d like to hear more of, whereas Barry G. Nichols /
Whiteline blog / Spekk recording artist, extolled the virtues of
Renou’s ‘genius’ with this recording]. ‘I see death’ The cd is
packaged in the usual high standard expected of elsieandjack. spot
varnish and silver ink over beautiful photography and simple layout,
printed on thick cardstock - plus Renou’s liner notes printed on a
vellum overlay."

Foot Village - Fuck the Future (CD) - EXBX Tapes $6.00
"A primal shit-kicker, if ever there was one. Foot Village is furious
percussion purity and self-amplified blasphemous tongues, weilded by
four of the raddest people around. Has a mess ever been so bloody
without using a single shred of heathen electricity? Foot Village
shares it's members with Rainbow Blanket, Rose for Bohdan, A++, Men
Who Can't Love, and several others. This disc compiles the tribe's
reports from the World Fantasy 10" (Not Not Fun), 7" (Deathbomb), and
self-released 3" cdr."

Gang Wizard - 4515 Thesis: A Series Of Split Pots - 2007 Tour CDr
(CDR) - tanzprocesz $10.00
"GW in europe in february 2007 !!! teddy bear noise, blast rock,
invocations."

Joe+N - leaves fall (3inch CDR) - Carbon Records $6.00
nearly 17min of solo electric guitar. three, almost equal length
pieces. the middle, lighter one, is sandwiched in between two slabs
of thick heavy guitar throb, ala Alasehir/Alumbrados, [3" CDR affixed
to a 5" square piece of 1/4" plywood with twine. the plywood is
sprayed and stenciled on one side. disc is also sprayed/splattered]
limited to 25!!!

Lake of Dracula - Skeletal Remains (CD) - Savage Land $13.00
"Between 1995 and 1997 Lake Of Dracula forged a singular approach to
dissonant, minimalistic rock music pre-dating both the neo-"no wave"
nostalgia trip (popularized by bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Liars)
and the current noise rock insurgence (led by Lightning Bolt and Wolf
Eyes) by years. based in Chicago, LOD was a veritable midwestern
underground supergroup featuring James "Marlon" Magas ( Couch ,
Magas ), Weasel Walter ( The Flying Luttenbachers , XBXRX ), Heather
M. ( The Scissor Girls ), "The Manhattanite" (a.k.a. Al Johnson from
U.S. Maple ) and Jessica Ruffins ( Jaks , Sea of Tombs ). Formed in
late 1995, the band issued forth a succinct manifesto made of
propulsive anti-rock beats and terse guitar cacophony topped with
cryptic, evocative vocal assaults. the net result of this music was
one of powerful, hard-edged surrealism in contrast to the
introspective "post rock" more associated with the time and place.
Their sole self-titled studio album was issued by skin gr
aft records in early 1997 featuring production help by Jim O'Rourke
( Sonic Youth , etc.). after a final west coast tour in summer 1997,
the band called it quits and the various members went on to further
infamy with their various pursuits. since then, the name Lake Of
Dracula continues to be whispered in reverence throughout the rock
underground. "Skeletal Remains" collects previously unreleased
material and rare compilation and single tracks onto one CD
(remastered by Weasel Walter) with extensive liner notes and photos."

Pengo - unt (7inch) - AA Records $20.00
this is a single sided, 7" lathe cut, cut by the AA folks directly.
its has silkscreen artwork on the back that shows thru the front,
beneath the grooves. all cut on a thick plexi-glass type surface.

polish hex - s/t (CASS) - EXBX Tapes $5.00
"Screams exactly like the true feel of a polish hex. first few
minutes are dwelling on some strong "phantom-of-the-opera-styled-
menace-is-going-to -jump-out-of-my-closet-and-swiftly-grip-the-tecate-
OZ-straight-in-front" preminitions. this is like, deep organ drone or
something? dude doesn't have an organ?? if this dude was into xanax
or clonapan or something cool i could only imagine the deep-fried HEX
jams that would blemish the ears. tape works good for pill fiends &
butchers in deep subterranean tunnels. tape works bad for the weak &
cold. pure white form." - descrip by Pure Skull -" 40 minutes, 27
tapes, printed on red and white vellum (sold out at source)

Pure Skull - Cranium Drippings (CASS) - EXBX Tapes $5.00
"Reinshagen's skull was anything but pure during the recording of
this 90-minute deluge into the altered mind. I remember the night,
people kept going downstairs to try and get him to go to some party,
and he just kept ignoring them, kept jamming. The zone could not be
broken. Mystery electronics, mystery tapes, mystery pills and many
"Huhhhhhh?" moments. 42 tapes, art printed on PURE white vellum"

Tabata - la vie electrique / last exit to brainsville (CD) - Elsie
and Jack $13.00
"elsie and jack are proud to present the second solo cd from tabata
mitsuru / founding member of the Boredoms, guitarist in Zeni Geva and
now bassist/vocalist in Acid Mothers Temple among others Tabata has
once again sprinkled his own brand of moondust all over these
recordings. Heavily influenced by memories of Ultraman, this is a
trip inside the speeding mind of a 70’s child. Not that this is an
exercise in charming nostalgia! Tabata strikes a delicate balance
between instrumental technique + raw sound manipulation to exorcise
the sounds of his past. Early one morning he went on a journey –
first stop Cambridge railway station, where he got out, turned left,
then left again along Cherry Hinton Road. After walking for 10
minutes, he had arrived – St. Margaret’s Square. Here, he met a
beautiful man, lost in his private thoughts – they shared a spicy
breakfast, and then parted, both trying to find No Man's Land. While
decoding dischordant sounds from his youth via other-worldl
y static + scree, brave new worlds open with each track. One can only
wonder at what Joe Meek would have thought of these sounds! From his
childhood days in a Kyoto sweetshop, revelling in the zap-pow of
cartoon escapism to the discovery of 60’s beat groups (waddya mean
you can’t hear the snap of the snare???!!!), his own musical
adventure is vast. Sludgerock, psychfreakout + noise, this aural
melting pot all works its way into and out of Tabata’s psf
imagination and onto this disc. A decade has passed since e+j
released Tabata’s warmly received debut full length - Brainsville – a
few words then… Aquarius: *Self-described as "monumental abstract
rural eastern psych" and that sounds about right. Avant-guitar-drone-
ophiles line up here. Beautiful! *His 1998 album "Brainsville" became
a big favorite around here, an excursion into "rural Eastern psych"
guitar that demonstrated his obvious love of '70s krautrock head
music. Publicguilt: *Quite spectacular and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
!! Again packaged in a lush red themed sleeve, utilising
spotvarnish and silver ink - with liner notes from Tabata himself."

these are powers - silver lung (7inch) - Elsie and Jack $5.00
"These Are Powers forge future-primitive songs from inspiration such
as dreams, spiritual mysticism, art movements like Der Blaue Reiter,
globalization, supernatural phenomena, and the prophecies of a UFO-
obsessed cab driver. These influences constitute a transcendent and
visceral sound the Brooklyn trio has christened Ghost-Punk. The
unconventionality of the band also rules their process. Drummer Ted
McGrath eschews a traditional high-hat setup in order to take full
advantage of a limited kit, creating inventive percussive patterns.
Likewise, bassist/vocalist Pat Noecker (Liars, n0 things) and
guitarist/vocalist Anna Barie (Knife Skills) achieve uniquely
deconstructive tones via prepared guitar and experimentation. These
Are Powers’ live performances resound in both volume and pure
emotional intensity, as songs sway from meditative hymns to resonant
dirges, audience and band share equally in the awakening."

White Leather - Creep Style, Ohio (CASS) - Nurse Etiquette $5.00
"new jammer from the dudes who used to be behind IDOLATRIES; Dan D.L.
(HAUNTED CASTLE, SNOW COVERED DEER CORPSE/MOSSY THROATS) and K.H.R.
(BODY COLLECTOR, VILLA VALLEY) are now fronting this thing. dan on
loop swirl, khr on synth attack. gets densely harsh & thick at
sparatic moments. usually remains in sort of a straight-up
oscillation storm. for the handful of players that got the EXBX CS;
don't get bummed when you don't hear quite the same styles frothing
up. IDOLATRIES R.I.P. / FOREVER LIVE THE LURKER(S). "
