A|V, a performance space i help run here in Rochester was shut down
back in July 2007, due to some zoning issues with the City. we are
currently looking for a new space to continue to hold the visual and
music shows. if anyone can help in any way, it would be very much
appreciated. we're still booking some of our shows at other venues in
town, in the interim. if you care, you can follow along at
www.avspace.org. and to add to it, a couple other DIY spaces in town
have also been shut down, leaving few places for the outer-fringe of
sounds. but work is in project, keep an eye out....

Band Info:
==========

New Releases since 3/4/2008 (10 items)
======================================

Bardo Pond - Batholith (LP) - three lobed $20.00
"released early march 2008. batholith is a collection of six tracks
that are near and dear to bardo pond but, for some reason or another,
have never previously been released. that one-sentence description
might lead one to think that these tracks are "outtakes" or cutting-
room floor type material - neither conclusion could be further from
the truth. the tracks included on batholith range from previous live
staples ("a tune," one made 'famous' by opening bardo's set at
terrastock II in san francisco as joined by roy montgomery [and a
recording of which was featured on the KFJC compilation live from the
devil's triangle, volume 2]) to tracks the band recorded in john peel
sessions ("slip away", also available here as a downloadable .mp3
preview). collected as a whole, these tracks form a fluid and
cohesive album. batholith is not just an exciting moment for long
time bardo pond fans, but a great jumping on point for folks who are
relatively new to their craft. as per the three
lobed standard, batholith is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl. it is housed
within heavy "old-style" one-pocket stoughton gatefold jackets
bearing new artwork by john gibbons and isobel sollenberger. the
record is from an edition of 1049 copies and, and as an added
convenience for our vinyl friends, will come packaged with a glass-
mastered CD (not CD-R) of the material present on the wax. pre-
ordered copies were accompanied by a bonus CD (TLR-044) of previously
unreleased bardo pond material."

Blowhole - reassembled (CDR) - Lunhare $8.00
"ive and studio recordings previously released on cassette in 1995.
Free-noise(jazz?) assaults, improvisations, objects beaten and
scraped, but also a violin. All you can imagine and nothing you may
imagine. A manifesto of musical freedom." - part of Lunhare's
Lethargy Series - "New releases of recordings dating back to the last
millennium"

Brian Ruryk/Mabus(RIP) - split (CASS) - Wintage $5.00
"Side A: Finds Ruryk busting up the joint full on Acusto-G-tar shred,
tape warp melt, tuna can jam,sample-fizz, and Brian's wonderful sense
of humur, add 1/4 cup of punishing assault + blend! Side B: Mabus
(RIP) holds it down with bad splices, and D grade edits done with the
pause+record. A slow-fi sound collage containing field recordings of
Parkdale, Westinghouse MRC-13, early morning cable TV, and various
audio masturbatory devices that biuld into a speed fueled death-raga.
Ltd. Ed. 50"

Crawling With Tarts - Ludiques Manifestes (CDR) - Lunhare $8.00
"Three live recordings from concerts held in Oakland in 1991 and
1992. Intended to be released on cassette in 1999, but kept in the
drawer until now, this work is published for the first time.
Improvisation sketches on percussive patterns, self-constructed
instruments, and even a punky, fast and furious song. Different sides
of a group always different from the rest. " part of Lunhare's
Lethargy Series - "New releases of recordings dating back to the last
millennium"

Demons/THAMES - split (CASS) - Wintage $10.00
"Part of the ongoing Wintage Tape Subscription Club Side A: Demons
create a totom of Psychodelic Brain-wash, the proto-prog travelouge
for the psychonaut in all of us. To Jupiter and beyond..set the
controls for the heart of the yada yada yada... hands down favorite
release to date, only Black Monoliths & Tracers remain! Side B:
THAMES hail from Montreal and create wasted walls of Psychodelic
scum. Blake Hargreaves(Dreamcatcher, Cousins of Reggae) & Alexander
Moskos(Drainolith,Unireverse) kick you in with a bucket full of Brain-
skunk, obliterating and Phat! Ltd. Ed. 100"

el-g - Capitaine Present #4 (DVDR) - tanzprocesz $7.00
"Capitaine Présent" is a subconscious audio-serial started in 2004 by
él-g. This Fourth episode is a film with Stolen images from google,
edited in a 20 minutes long futurist didactic movie with 300
different voices, inserts and orgasmic crescendos. It talks about
life, universe, teenagehood, theme parks, enterprises, synaptic links
and sweet skizophrenia. Tristan Tzara meets PizzaHut meets You. And
yeah it's french only because it's impossible to subtitle this
object, no place for it. Capitaine Présent #1-2-3 included for yr
never-ending audio pleasure. Totally queer pink plush handmade
packaging. 50 copies.

Kapotte Muziek - enhanced room acoustics (CDR) - Lunhare $8.00
"Previously released on cassette in 1996, the two original tracks are
here enhanced by a new one especially composed and performed by
Freiband in 2007. From the analogic sound modifications of last
century's industrial age to the micro and nearly audible variations
of the new digital era. " - part of Lunhare's Lethargy Series - "New
releases of recordings dating back to the last millennium"

Knife World - s/t (LP) - roaratorio $16.00
"Formed in Minneapolis in 2004, Knife World have converted many
unwary bystanders into true believers through their frenetic gigs in
underground venues and the occasional club. The band worships at the
Riff Temple, swapping pomposity for a mischievous intelligence. Jon
Nielsen sounds as if he's scrambling to play all the guitar parts of
some skewed arena-rock mashup at once, while drummer Josh Journey-
Heinz avoids the obvious backbeats by carving out the spaces around
them instead. Together they have a fuller sound than most groups with
more appendages. A self-released cassette and a cd-r served up hints
and guesses, but now their debut LP comes along to deliver the goods.
Packaged in a pleasantly eye-gouging 3D gatefold jacket, with glasses
mounted into the vinyl."

Pangolino Orchestra - O (CDR) - Lunhare $8.00
"Studio recordings previously released on cassette in 1995. Art&free-
rock structures with a somewhat strange approach to melody. Featuring
the genius of Piume E Sangue’s Gi Gasparin." - part of Lunhare's
Lethargy Series - "New releases of recordings dating back to the last
millennium"

Paul Metzger - Gedanken Splitter (LP) - roaratorio $15.00
"Paul Metzger continues to pile up the plaudits from critics and
peers alike for his virtuosic string-slinging, gaining notice through
his CD on Chairkickers and his split LP with Ben Chasny and Chris
Corsano on Roaratorio. Metzger’s modified banjo is tricked out with
additional sympathetic raga strings, although the compositions on
Gedanken Splitter are informed by much more than Eastern drone music
alone. Recorded in the same period as 2007’s Deliverance on Locust
Music, this is a more jagged and aggressive (although no less
accessible) affair. Metzger winds these improvisations around
thornier threads than on his previous releases, and while never
turning completely abstract, Gedanken Splitter moves even further
away from anything resembling typical banjo fare. This is mesmerizing
and singular playing." ---- "Gedanken Splitter is ferocious, frantic,
yet entirely on-course -- easily Metzger's most aggressive waxing
yet." - Bill Meyer, Signal To Noise
