Our new club was a huge success. Soul Rebels, 3 rooms of ska, reggae
and soul will be back Saturday May 14 @ Zen Sushi yet again. Rudies,
skins, soulies and scooterboys all came out and danced the night
away to the punk of the Immediates, the reggae of the Irie Beats and
The Alleged Gunman with The Angel City Soul Club dropping the
Northern Soul Classics and the Ska & Reggae Shuffle with the Boss
Tunes of 60 - 70 JA and UK.

Got some sad news, some old news and some other news. I've been
moving so I haven't had too much time to update the website but I
will soon be back to doing just that.

JUSTIN HINES PASSED AWAY.
March 17 - another legand passes on -
His career began in the Ska era with the hit recording, "Carry Go
Bring Come", for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label in 1964 and
following the success of that record he went on to make dozens of
other ska and rocksteady titles for Reid. Justin recorded two albums
for Chris Blackwell's Island/Mango label in the mid-seventies
produced by the late Jack Ruby. He continued to work through the
eighties and nineties and was touring until recently.

LAWLESS STREET NEWS
Look for announcements of some new clubs and events soon. So far we
have confirmed a new weekly Wednesday night event at the Derby in
Hollywood. We should be starting DYNAMITE! - A weekly Soul Funk
Excursion by the end of April with resident selecters Roga Dynamic,
Mr. Soul Satisfaction & Donald "Soul Station". FREE to get in.
Mondays might soon be a ska/reggae event, too!

IRIE BEATS NEWS
The beats are slated for a few gigs in the next few months including
this weekends events in the north with Firme, the Scootin Fools
Scooter Weekend next week, an opening slot with Desmond Dekker and
the high Desert Ska Fest in June. Got most of the music finally
ready and working on the package along with the new video for "Roots

MONKEY SIGNS TO ASIANMAN RECORDS -
Look for another musical journey from our boys to the north sometime
around June. Congratulations!

AGGROLTIES LEAVE FOR EUROPE -
Thats right the hometown gang leaves for over a month long tour of
Europe including Germany, France and the UK. They will be on the BBC

The Irie Beats will be hitting Nor Cal at the end of March for the
first time in a long time in what we hope will be a more regular
occurance. They want to really make more trips out of So Cal in
preperation for the actual release of new music. They may be playing
some dates in other states near July, too.

The Expanders are a new soulful reggae band that has jumped onto te
scene. They have played the Bluebeat and blew everyone away. Watch

Go Jimmy Go hits the road coast to coast in April to promote their
3rd album, "Fishbowl Eyes", to the

The Aggrolites have updated the website and are ready to storm Europe
for a good month plus of dates all over. We are very jealous and wish
them the best of luck when they leave. They will be on the BB1 radio
as well as some major festivals while they are there.
