Joey Altruda & His Classic Riddims
Joey Altruda is a widely known and well-respected musician, arranger and composer, with an international cult following. He is involved with numerous musical styles including Jamaican, Afro-Cuban, jazz and rock. Longtime co-leader of the group Jump With Joey, he has produced numerous albums throughout his career, including "Ska-Ba," "Strictly For You Vol. 2," "Generations United," "Cocktails With Joey," "Kingston Cocktail" and "Swingin' Ska Goes South of Th' Border." Over the years, Joey has collaborated with such musical geniuses as Coxson Dodd, Roland Alphonso, Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, Plas Johnson, Ernie Andrews, Jack Costanzo and Chocolate. Joey Altruda (on acoustic bass) will be joined by an all-star cast of musicians and singers including members of Jump With Joey, Hepcat, Ocean 11, Antibalas Afro-Beat Orchestra, Breakestra, Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra and Macy Gray's Band. Joey and his all-star band headlined last year's sold-out 1st Annual Ska & Rocksteady Bonanza.
See Spot Formed in a North Hollywood garage over fifteen years ago, See Spot has been one of the leading ska bands in Los Angeles' rich tapestry of groups since their first professional gig in 1994. This 8- piece powerhouse delves into rocksteady, reggae and Latin boogaloo in addition to their own style of rhythmic, traditional ska. Fronted by vocalist and lead songwriter Chuck Farrar, See Spot has some of the catchiest tunes the ska world has to offer today. Over the years, See Spot has had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of the finest Jamaican musicians around from the originators (The Skatalites, Justin Hinds) to the modern groundbreakers (The Toasters, Hepcat) to the contemporary leaders (Reel Big Fish, Go Jimmy Go). They have frequently performed at such Hollywood venues as the Whisky- A-Go-Go, Troubadour and B.B. King's Blues Club, and never pass up a chance to get the crowd moving. See Spot was also among the line-up of last year's Ska & Rocksteady Bonanza.
The Skeletones with a sound that resonates with the energy of rock and punk, the rhythms of ska and roots, as well as the mass appeal of hip-hop, funk and soul, The Skeletones deliver a sound that is as diverse as their Southern California roots -- yet as easily accessible as a groove. It is with this distinction that they have commanded stage performances on three continents for nearly twenty years. Formed by Paul "Prince Skeletone" Hampton, The Skeletones have honed their craft by playing alongside icons like No Doubt, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Skatalites, Incubus, 311 and countless others. Originally perfectly comfortable to be deemed a "ska" band by fans and critics alike, The Skeletones latest material promises to provide an insight into the deepest core of their vast pool of seemingly unrelated influences. The direct result is a professional act that has already become an influential force in the music industry, and one that continues to influence new generations of like- minded rockers in the process.
Kingston Ska Collective agroup of multi-talented Los Angeles- based musicians have joined forces to pay respect to the Godfathers of Jamaican music - The Skatalites. The Collective's repertoire includes a mixture of popular and lesser-known, yet stellar, ska, rocksteady and reggae compositions by Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso and Jackie Mittoo, as well as by other legendary Studio One and Treasure Isle session players. Led by trumpeter Eitan Avineri (of The Allentons, Kingston 10, Full Spectrum fame), Kingston Ska Collective is dedicated to recreating this amazing and truly original art form.
La Banda Skalavera is a 9-piece outfit that is firmly rooted in rancheras and rock, brimming with ska and punk attitude, a dab of reggae, cumbia, salsa and heavy metal interwoven with a Raza feel. Their first official gig was in 1999 at Poly High in Long Beach for a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Over the past six years, La Banda Skalavera has continued to bring their high energy, diverse sound across the Southland to such venues as House of Blues (both Sunset & Anaheim), The Roxy, Troubadour and Chain Reaction.
Deal's Gone Bad are a culturally diverse 8-piece band from the streets of Chicago, IL, Deal's Gone Bad has played their unique brand of '50s and '60s Jamaican music for the past eleven years. DGB blends reggae, rocksteady and ska with American soul in a fiery brew all their own. Having sold a combined 20,000 units of their first three albums, they have steadily built a following on the road, as evidenced by packed houses across the Midwest and Southeast. With Todd Hembrook at the helm, DGB has performed with such notable acts as Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Toots & The Maytals, Eek-A-Mouse and Flogging Molly.

Here is a A SWEET SERENADE review in the 25th anniversary celebration issue of the Beat Reggae Magazine on newsstands now. By Chuck Foster (Reggae Central, KPFK 90.7 FM)
"For something completely different try A SWEET SERENADE: 13 TRACKS of SOULFUL ACOUSTIC REAGGAE (Lawless Street). Despite the subtitle the roots of this project are in the U.S. ska revival which has lately turned to rock steady. Drawing from ska, rock steady and reggae as well as 60's pop music, the charm here is in the rediscovery of music's purity by a new generation that's been rasied on synthesized, electrified, corporate rock and recognizes something's missing. With the possible exception of Deal's Gone Bad most readers will be unfamiler with the groups, who record under names like Radio Freedom, Westbound Train, Penny Reel Junction and the Escodonians but this pleasent sampler has the feel of a relaxed hoot night, which to some extent it grows out of (Tuesday nights at the Bluebeat Lounge LA). The music is all original - these aren't acoustic covers of old Jamaican hits - and the best part are the nice harmonies you'll hear throughout - a lost art these kids are helping rediscover. Although the riddims- also derived via ska from Latin music - are sometimes a little choppy there is especially nice use of muted horns on a couple of cuts and a nice musical vibe throughout. "

Bad Daddy Records Releases
Fully Fullwood's "For All Time"
Newport Beach, California – February 14, 2006 –
Singer/songwriter/bassist Fully Fullwood introduces his unique sounds
of reggae on his first solo CD "For All Time," on Bad Daddy Records
scheduled for release today. Highlighting the CD's February 14
release is the track, Valentine, a tune about the quest for love.
Best known as the founder and leader of 70's reggae band Soul
Syndicate, Fully Fullwood was instrumental in shaping the sounds of
Jamaican music. He has toured and/or recorded with some of the
world's most respected reggae artists, including Bob Marley, Joe
Higgs, The Mighty Diamonds and many others. He was also a member of
reggae superstar Peter Tosh's band "Word, Sound and Power." Most
recently, Fullwood and his band, "The Fully Fullwood Band," have been
backing such artists as Justin Hinds, U-Roy, The Itals, and Michael
Rose of Black Uhuru.
Hailing from Kingston, Fullwood is influenced by the musical vibes
emanating from Jamaica, but "For All Time" also includes an
international flavor. He has masterfully carved out unique rhythms
that go far beyond reggae, displaying his love of South American and
Asian music. In his first solo CD, Fullwood also draws inspiration
from world beat, roots and American jazz.
"Fullwood's first solo effort, `For All Time' displays a depth of
sound that showcases the various musical influences that have helped
to shape his music over the past several decades," said Jack
McCullough, president of Bad Daddy Records.
The first two tracks on the CD, "Utopia," and "My Cream Is Rising,"
are most characteristic of his reggae roots, while "Letters," an
instrumental, has a Latin feel with a touch of jazz. "Sao Paulo," a
romantic tune with Latin rhythms, is about a man who dreams about the
night he fell in love with a girl on the beach. "For All Time"
features 17 songs that showcase Fullwood's artistry as a composer,
singer, bassist, producer and all-around musician. It comes as a 2-CD
set, one with music and lyrics, and the other with all instrumental
tracks.

DEAL'S GONE BAD ********************************************* What do you get when you mix the chugging rhythms of Jamaica, the energy and emotion of American Motown, and the overthe-top pub/rock of the Pogues? Deal's Gone Bad - a culturally diverse eight piece from the streets of Chicago. Deal's Gone Bad has played their unique brand of 50's and 60's Jamaican music for the past ten years. Hailing from Chicago, IL, DGB blends reggae, rocksteady, and ska music with American soul in a fiery brew all their own. Having sold a combined 20,000 units of their first three records, Deal's Gone Bad has steadily built a following on the road, as evidenced by packed houses across the Midwest and Southeast. DGB's following in their hometown has always been strong, with the band playing to capacity audiences at such legendary Chicago venues as Fireside Bowl, Abbey Pub, Park West, and Metro. Deal's will appeal to fans of the Skatalites, Bob Marley, Otis Redding, and the Pogues(!), as well as dancing and revelry in general.
From 1997's "Large and in Charge" to 2002's "Guide to Boat Drinks and Cruise Cocktails," Deal's Gone Bad is sure to please, and is now proud to introduce vocalist Todd Hembrook (formerly of Heavy Step). With Mr. Hembrook at the helm, DGB's sound has advanced to a new, even more soulful level to move your feet and win your heart. 2005 has seen the crew return to the road for a series of coast to coast appearances as well as the release of a new retrospective album "The Longest Happy Hour" comprising fan and band favorites from their first three releases on Jump Up! Records. Be ready for the fourth DGB full length due to drop Spring 2005.

BAND SPOTLIGHT: PENNY REEL JUNCTION
Atascadero is a lonely outpost on the highway between Los Angeles and
San Fransisco, where the sounds of Ska mix with the wine soaked
coastal breezes. Some say it would be an unlikely place for this
fragile transplant to flourish. The Penny Reel Junction is out to
prove them wrong.
In 1998, Ex Mobtown and Sublime saxophonist Brian Wallace set up camp
on the Central Coast and started a Ska music education course at the
local high school. At their second live performance, their sound
caught the ear of filmmaker Alan Berger who asked if the song they
played that night at the Bluebeat Lounge could be used in his film.
The film "Halfway Decent" stars Ernie Hudson, includes the music and
will be released later this year. It premiered at the Austin City
Film Fest in October.
Penny Reel Junction has of course contributed an exclusive track
to "A Sweet Serenade: 13 Tracks of Soulful Acoustic Reggae" available
for order now. Available to ship, if all goes well at the plant,
the first week of December, just in time for Christmas.

The great thing about acoustic music is it presents the heart and soul of a song in it's most naked form. Jamaican music, being a stylised dance music, is not usually heard in this format. Of course the pre-ska mento was acoustic and there were acoustic tunes coming in during the ska days like the Wailing Wailers tune "This Train", even though that was more spiritual ballad than all out ska dance number. What people don't understand is that many of these classic big band Jamaican dance tunes started life on a simple acoustic guitar by a single writer. - FROM the Liner Notes to "A Sweet Serende" by Kyle Hickenbottom

***** IRIE BEATS NEWS *****
We've said it once and we'll say it again. They are one of the best
live reggae bands going on the scene right now. Having just played
the 25th Anniversary ROCKERS Party at the knitting factory with Jah
Horns stepping in and opening for HR and Jack Ruby Jr. in a few
weeks they are ready to bring their roots rockers reggae act to the
massive. Artwork has been finished for the upcoming album "The Boom
Boom Sessions" produced by Brian "Boom Boom" Dixon and another album
entitled "Sounds from the Yard" is in production as well. We may
even be releasing some vinyl too. More word on that, soon.

Lawless Elite,
The first Lawless Street CD release will be ready in time for
Christmas so put it on your wish list.
DO THE REGGAY! Do you like The Skatalites? Chris
Murray Combo? Sublime? Toots & The Maytals?
Then check out this Soulful Acoustic Reggae Compilation.
The great thing about acoustic music is it presents the heart
and soul of a song in it's most naked form. Jamaican music,
being a stylised dance music, is not usually heard in this
format. Of course the pre-ska mento was acoustic and there
were acoustic tunes coming in during the ska days like the
Wailing Wailers tune "This Train", even though that was more
spiritual ballad than all out ska dance number. What people
don't understand is that many of these classic big band
Jamaican dance tunes started life on a simple acoustic guitar
by a single writer. -

Hello Lawless Elite,
It's almost the end of the year. Where has the time gone? There have been so
many
amazing shows this year including Rico, Madness (twice), Ocean 11, Hepcat and
plenty of
Bluebeat Lounge action. I look forward to next year of course as there seems to
be more
great things coming next year.
I have to say that Madness is my all time favorite band in the world. They once
again prove
why they are one of the best live bands. The 2 shows that I went to recently
were amazing
and I am already waiting to see them again.
***** LAWLESS NEWS *****
4 Years in the making! Lawless Street is in the final stages of our first CD
release.
"Sweet Serenade: 13 Tracks of Soulful Acoustic Reggae" includes tracks from
Deals Gone
Bad, Dubistry, Westbound Train, The Escodonians, James Trent of the Hi-Lites,
Mike
Mowry, and more. This compilation is a tribute of sorts to the Bluebeat Lounge,
Chris
Murray and the real roots of reggae when some rastafarian would sit down with a
guitar
with hopes of writing a hit song for one of the great producers of Jamaica and
pour his
heart and soul into making music.

All Reggae roads lead to SOMA in San Diego for the TRIBUTE TO THE
ROOTS gala concert celebrating 20 years of Trade Roots Reggae.
http://www.traderootsreggae.com.
Headlining the show are veteran singers Horace Andy and Cornell
Campbell who will both be making their San Diego stage debuts.
Special guest Martin Campbell of Channel One Studio fame, will be
making an exclusive U.S. appearance for this night only. The
legendary stage band for the show features seasoned session players
Fully Fullwood, Tony Chin, and drummer Santa Davis, all of Soul
Syndicate / Word, Sound, Power fame. Kush and Jah Blood Fiyah Angels
www.fiyahangels.com, San Diego's top roots reggae band, will open the
show and heat up the stage for a truly wonderful night to come.
"One of Jamaica's most distinguished and beloved vocalists, Horace
Andy is blessed with one of the most distinctive voices on the island
and his emotive delivery just adds further weight to his reputation.
His classic recordings from the '70s remain crucial listening, while
his more recent work with trip-hop heroes Massive Attack has
introduced the singer to an entire new generation of devoted fans.
Indeed, Andy's work has been of such consistently high caliber over
the years that there's never been a time when he wasn't releasing
exceptional records." (Jo-Ann Greene, All Music Guide )
http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/andy_horace/artist.jhtml
Cornell Campbell could be called the Sam Cooke of Jamaican music- so
sweet is his soulful falsetto. With a string of hits for Studio 1
("Queen of the Minstrel", "Stars") already under-his-belt as a member
of the short-lived Eternals, he teamed up with ace producer Bunny Lee
in the mid-70s. Together they created some of the most lasting roots-
and-culture tunes of the era including "The Gorgon" and "Natty Dread
Inna Grenwich Farm".
Studio musicians Fully Fullwood (bass), Tony Chin (guitar), and Santa
Davis (drums) all worked for Bunny Lee as a part of the Aggrovators.
Their sessions for Lee formed the cornerstone of rockers-style
Jamaican riddims with Santa's signature "flying cymbal" stylings.
Many of the most memorable tunes of this era, voiced for Lee by both
Horace Andy and Cornell Campbell, feature the Aggrovators at their
hardest. Later, they became better known internationally for their
work as members of the Soul Syndicate and, eventually, Peter Tosh's
Word, Sound, and Power band. http://www.fullyfullwood.com
The enigmatic Martin Campbell, based in Redding, U.K., played his San
Diego/ U.S. debut to packed-houses in 2001. This self-produced singer-
songwriter created an immediate sensation and his reputation as a
roots favorite has since grown steadily . His recent appearance at
the 2005 Bob Marley Day in San Diego garnered rave reviews and his
return is highly anticipated. www.channelonereggae.com
Be sure to come out to witness and be apart of this once in a
lifetime event to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of TRADE ROOTS
REGGAE with some of roots' hardest hitters. The event is an all ages
event and will be held at the SOMA.
SOMA http://www.somasandiego.com is located @ 3350 Sports Arena Blvd.
in San Diego. On-line advanced ticket sales are now available from
the SOMA website. Box office sales at SOMA start September 1. For

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NEWS:
"Time Tough", never truer then today. There is widespread
distruction, panic, suffering and fear in the gulf coast region. A
whole system of commerce and lifestyle has been distroyed with no
forseeable timetable to recover. There is looting and killing in the
streets.
Victims of Hurricane Katrina are attempting to recover from the
massive storm that is still making its way across the Mid-Atlantic
States. American Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to the
hardest hit areas of Katrina's destruction, supplying hundreds of
thousands victims left homeless with critical necessities. By making
a financial gift to Hurricane 2005 Relief, the Red Cross can provide
shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

LAWLESS STREET EXPLOSION
We are gearing up to bring some new merch and relaunch our distro
plans. Things have been backed up for some time but there is some
new things on the way.
CLAY ACTS UP ADJUSTERS STYLE
Clay, winner of the Bay Area Scooter Film Festival, is a genuinely
funny comedy set to the upbeat swinging sounds of sax man David
Hillyard (The Slackers, Dave Hillyard & the Rocksteady 7) and

short is now available on DVD with a video from Mod Soul Skasters
The Adjusters.
The Adjusters perform their original soul-flavored "Our Town." This
music video was shot on location in Chicago and features the
historic Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap in Hyde Park. Look for Jimmy himself
in the final scene of the video. He's the guy sitting at the bar
enjoying the finer pleasures of life: a cigar and a good beer. "Our
Town" is from The Adjusters' first album The Politics of Style.
