This is a cool topic. I have been struggling with the mechanics of
building a relationship with the Savior. We just obey His
commandments, show that we love Him and other things; but except for
two occasions that I have heard of, we don't really communicate with
Jesus Christ. However, two things have really helped me on this
front.
The first was when I realized a few months ago how, as the mediator
no man comes to the Father except through Christ. So, everything we
say in His name is probably heard by Him. Before this I even said a
prayer, (you'll laugh here) to Father in Heaven asking Him to tell
the Son that I loved him for me.
The second was when I realized how, since the song is a prayer of the
heart... that MANY of the songs we sing in the Hymn Book are actually
addressed directly to Jesus Christ. When I sing "Lord, I would
Follow Thee," I can imagine singing it to the Savior. I think that
there must be a way to communicate to the Savior afterall: Music!!
So, whenever I get a chance to sing a Hymn that is addressed to
Christ, I get very glad of the rare opportunity to sing words that
are meant for His ears.
Now I appear crazy, and I probably crossed a bunch of docrinal
barriers that I shouldn't have- I am probably even wrong about this
whole thing. But it helps me, anyway.
Come Sing to the Lord.
