I am having so much fun being the chorister for our RS!!! I thought
I'd pass along what I do... my sisters have had a very positive
response so far.
I always try to tie in the Hymns we sing with our lesson topics. I
feel the spirit testify about what we learned. I make my schedule a
few months in advance so my pianist is prepared! Having been the
pianist many times, I really appreciate prior notice to brush up on
songs. Also, RS runs more smoothly because everyone is on the same
page. I am also never stressed about what I'm doing.. it's done!
1st Sunday- Favorite Hymn day. I ask a sister beforehand to let me
know what her favorite hymn. I also ask her to tell us why and what
the song means to her. We hear wonderful stories from our sisters and
their testimonies of the hymn. Sometimes they just love the beat, and
that's cool too! It's a neat way to get to know each other!
2nd Sunday- I tell a history or special story that has to do with a
hymn. There are many talks and a book out there (History of the
Hymns,or something?) for resources.
3rd and 4th Sundays- I pick a hymn that we may not be familiar with
and we learn it. I talk about the lyrics and their meaning, we look
at parts, some times we practice conducting. Anything. Every once
and a while we have a game with the song. Hot/ cold, erasing the
words, singing contests, you get the picture. Gotta wake everybody up!
It helps to have the same song 2 weeks in a row.
I also introduce the song that the primary is working on that month
and make copies for the women to take home. There are lots of young
mothers and they can familiarize themselves with the songs that their
children are singing and help them learn them at home.
I hope this helps some of you!
