I was first called as the RS chorister in our branch, then the music
chairman/branch chorister for Sac. Mtg. That also made me the de facto
choir director. Since it is very hard to get anyone to sing in the choir, I
gather them together two or three times a year to practice a special number
for a month, then I let them go. I learned how to direct music from the
information in the back of the hymnbook. The easiest arrangements are in
the hymnbook itself. You can also get free choir music by Sally DeFord and
Craig Petrie on the internet. Just do a search on their names.
My choir consists mostly of altos and baritones. We recently did a Craig
Petrie number "In My Home" which is actually a tenor/alto duet, and I just
had it as a men's and women's duet. The choir really liked the number.
