Subject: [Lew DeWitt] Re: She went a little bit farther/Brown eyes
Hi! I am new here! I LOVE Lew DeWitt! I listen to the Statlers
every day on my iPod and on my CD player in my car. I have 2 boys -
Alex - 11.5, and Ryan - 8. The music drives them crazy, but I know
they will appreciate it when they are older, and any time they hear a
Statler song, will remember their dear mom! I am 43, and live about
40 minutes north of St. Louis - across the river in Godfrey/Alton,
Illinois.
I wanted to answer this question about this song. I have the song on
an album I purchased from eBay. The album is called "30 Great Hits
By 30 Great Country Artists - Vol. 3" Put out by Columbia, and
copyrighted 1968 CBS Direct Marketing Services. The song is
entitled "She Went a Little Bit Farther." I don't know about the
Brown Eyes. If that was another song on the back of the 45? Anyway,
I don't have the know how to transfer music from record to CD, but I
have used my Casio camera to capture music from albums and cassettes
to put onto my computer. So, I do have song on my computer.
Also, I have another ablum - "Christmas The Johnny Cash Family" dated
1972. This album includes the Statlers, and a solo song by Lew -
"Old Fashioned Tree".
I hope any of this info has helped.
It's funny when I was a kid I like the Statler Brothers, but was
always drawn to the bass. Now, when I hear them sing - the tenor is
all I hear.
Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome to our dwindling little group. I have known the Statlers for many years,
in fact
I just spent three days with Harold & Phil and their wives at a western film
fair in Williamsburg, Va. Had a good visit. I went to about 15 or 16 Fourth of
July shows beginning
in 1978, and got soaking wet at half of the shows. They still operate a mail
order shop and
business in Staunton. They have a web site Statlers@.... Lew's wife Judy
lives in
Waynesboro with her husband. A street has been named for Lew and I think a
shopping mall is in the making.

I'll never forget when the Statler Bros was in Hershey, Pa for a
concert. Heck I was a teenage rock music person, so I sat in the
front on the concert. When it finished, my MOM and DAD got to go to
the back of the concert, and talked and talked and talked.
I still have my parents orig ALBUMS, and my brother would try to
SING "flowers on the wall".
Still have cousins, friends all around

NEVER was able to go to the July 4th concert.
Wish I could "go back" and change my life, and enjoy more the

Hello,
My husband went to high school with Lew and sang in the chorus with him at
WMHS. We love to listen to his recordings with the Statler's. We would really
like to obtain his 2 solo albums, Here to Stay and On My Own. We have looked all
over the internet and in record shops. Can anyone out there help? Look forward
to talking to you,

Hi Shannon, Its good to hear from you. We only met one time, at Lews memorial
service. It wasn't under the best of circumstances, and I met your Mom also. I
had
met Joyce and Judy before. I saw Judy at the dedication ceremony of the Five
stools
a couple of years ago and have talked to her only once since. It would be
great to get
together for dinner sometime before I get too old. I think of Lew most every

dropped off to
sleep during the taping of them. He was truly a special friend and I'm

...that Lew passed from this world into eternity. I grew up listening
to his recordings with the Statlers, along with various other
singers: Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, John Conlee, Earl Thomas
Conley, the Forester Sisters, Charly McClain, Mel McDaniel & many
more. In more recent years I have also listened to Lew's solo
recordings, one of which echoes what I sometimes wish:
"I don't want a whole lotta money,
I don't want a whole lotta dough,
I just wanna do what I wanna do & go where I wanna go.
But it takes a whole lotta money,
& that's what makes me blue,
'Cause I can't go where I wanna go, can't do what I wanna do."
On one of the songs from his last album with the Statlers, Lew
sang, "When Elvis died, we all knew that we could too." Ironically,
his own passing was on the eve of the 13th anniversary of Elvis'
death. May both singers rest in eternal peace.
Oh, & thanks to Shannon for joining & posting here.
Collins
Shannon,
I never met the man and miss him terribly. Can't imagine how much his passing
has affected you. Rarely does a single day go by that I don't listen to music
that includes his soaring tenor. It's mesmerizing. There could never be
another like it. I would have done anything to have met with him during his
life, as I have always been intrigued by his astonishing talent - and his humble
personality that seemed totally oblivious to it all.
A couple of years ago, I received a CD from a fellow fan I found on the
internet. It's a live radio interview with Lew. I really enjoy listening to it
occasionally and listening to him discuss his solo career, as well as his past
with the Statlers. Seems he had every gift but length of years.
As you've noted from the web logs, he still has many, many fans who care and
will always remember him.
Thanks for taking the time to send such a thoughtful email. My best to you and
your family.
Kind regards,
Matt Strauss

I wanted to say THANK YOU for keeping him in your thoughts and

sites like this, especailly around this time of year, remembering him.
It helps me during those times when I am feeling sad and missing him,
which I always do, but you know those times when you cant stop
thinking about a loved one's passing and really yearning to see and
hear their voice and talk w/ them. Having an opportunity to read all
that his fans say and feel, well you dont know how much that means to
us, so I wanted you all to know it does mean a great deal to us!! So
again I wanted to say THANK YOU for helping keep his spirit alive. I
dont think he truly realized just how loved he was/is and how much his

Hi and thanks for the info. I lived in Roanoke for 34 years but nevr got to see
the Statlers when Lew was with them I did see them in 1999 and got to shake
Harolds hand. When Lew left and Jimmy took over I wasnt sure how it would be but
they are as great as ever. Lew had a great voice and really stood out with them
and I love the solo songs that I have found on internet thanks again
