Thursday at Rhythm Room we played with the band formerly known as Unified
Feel Theory and they totally rocked. Collect All Five, as they are now
known, is an all instrumental outfit that touches on Funk, Reggae, Groove
and Psychedelic deliciousness. A great Austin band to check out. There is
something about this venue that brings the best out of us. We played a
pretty good set that we were all happy with. Tyson and I stayed until about
2am while he expressed his feelings on the fact that the rest of the band
should have stayed to see this great band. Their loss.
Saturday we played Industry Café for the first time. Cool venue packed with
people. Our set was pushed back an hour and a half so we all drank a bit too
much but we did get to listen to the Free Radicals. If you have not seen
them you are really missing out on a great example of what Houston has to
offer. They have been a favorite of mine for years. There was a dance off
between a few energetic fans which kept us in groove mode for most of the
night. I can't say it was the best set we have ever played, but then again,
that wasn't the point. The vibe was great.
Sunday, back at the Rhythm Room, we found ourselves at another battle of the
bands. On this bill we were with all metal bands who were all under age. So,
needless to say, we fit right in. Played a great set and I actually thought
we had a chance at winning until Coy stepped up to the mic. Now, you have to
understand that this contest was based solely on applause. You could have
been the worst band ever and if you had a large group of people there, you
win. So, it was Sunday and it was our third gig in four days. Not our best
turn out. We were the first band and when we finished a great version of
Slippery we received a surprisingly good round of applause. Then into Penny
Fortune and the same response followed. Coy steps up to introduce us and
says "Hey y'all we are Little Brother Project. We would just like to thank
you for letting us beat you." SCRAAAAATCH....you could hear crickets as the
room was instantly silent. It was not how he meant it, it just came out
SOOOOO wrong. We lost. Hee hee. Got to love it!!!
