MARCH 2003 (Austin, Texas) - Maura and Pete Kennedy of Reston, Virginia, who
first met more than a decade ago at the Continental Club on South Congress
Avenue, are the headliners at this month's Live Oak Coffeehouse in a benefit
for LINK (Lonely Instruments Need Kids). Edge City, a group that started in
Maryland and now calls Austin home, will be the opening act. The performance
is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist
Church in Northwest Austin.

Admission is $10 or a season pass at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries
will be served, and are included in the price of admission.

As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to
the performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the
coffeehouse is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, all of the money
from admissions paid at the door and season passes goes to the performers and
the charity.

Lonely Instruments Need Kids, formerly known as the Music Instrument Pool
Project, seeks donations of musical instruments that can be given to local
children who have an interest in learning to play an instrument, but whose
families lack the means to buy or rent an instrument. We've helped this
program once before with a coffeehouse show, and LINK is deserving of our
continuing support.

The Kennedys' first CD, "River of Fallen Stars," was awarded the "Indie"
award in 1995 for "Best Adult Contemporary CD" by the National Association of
Independent Record Distributors. "The Kennedys are stars in the touring
musician world, yet they are highly accessible to their fans," wrote Mike
Devlin in Music Matters Review. " 'Positively Live!' rocks out in acoustic
high gear with 'Run Red Lights,' a tune that would make their hero, Buddy
Holly, proud." So the Kennedys are about music and a little bit more. Six CDs
later, they're comfortable in a variety of styles ranging from roots rock to
ambient etheria, and they write books and produce videos when they're not
igniting incendiary Gretsch jams, but ultimately it's their chemistry, their
love for each other, and their unashamedly idealistic pop vision that has
carved them their own niche onstage and in the world of maverick radio.

Edge City combines the singer-songwriter tradition of their current home in
Austin with the East Coast rock 'n' roll of their former home in Maryland.
Led by singer-songrocker Jim Patton and vocalist/partner Sherry Brokus, Edge
City's "Mystery Ride" CD blends intelligent, literate lyrics and
wall-of-sound vocals with Byrds/The Band/Tom Petty-style American rock.
Originally from Baltimore, Patton and Brokus relocated Edge City to Austin,
where they recorded "Mystery Ride" with producer Lloyd Maines, recently
dubbed "the guru of Texas record producers" by the Dallas Morning News.

The Live Oak Coffeehouse has three shows remaining in our Spring 2003 season,
which opens our sixth year of presenting monthly coffeehouse performances.
Season passes are on sale at $24 for three shows, or $8 per show. For more
information on season passes, call 331-8956. Still to come, we have two split
bills: We'll present Anni Clark and Beth Williams on April 11, and we'll host
Billy Jonas and Eric Schwartz on May 9.

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 12310 Ranch Road 620 North. For driving
directions, visit the church's Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or call 219-9008.
