New Venue for an Austin Institution!
The Live Oak Coffeehouse Moves

“Smoke-Free Since 1998!”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JULY 2003 (Austin, Texas) – The Live Oak Coffeehouse, which has been
presenting benefit concerts since early 1998, has relocated to a new facility at
3315 El Salido Parkway in Cedar Park, about a mile west of its former site. The
first concert of the coffeehouse’s fall season is scheduled for Friday, August
22, featuring Jack Williams of Kerrville, Texas.

The Coffeehouse Concert Series is sponsored by the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church as a program that gives back to the community of Austin –
not just our famed music community, but also the community at large. The
coffeehouse is an all-volunteer effort that uses concert admissions to benefit
local charities and service organizations.

Three-quarters of the gate from each month’s concert goes to the performing
artists, and one-quarter goes to the designated organization. None of the gate
goes to the coffeehouse – our nonprofit organization is supported solely by
the Live Oak UU Church, donations by concertgoers and local businesses, and the
work of our volunteers.

Over the years, we’ve donated thousands of dollars to such worthy groups as
Animal Trustees of Austin, Austin Children’s Shelter, Austin Habitat for
Humanity, Capital Area Food Bank, Hospice Austin, La Leche League of Austin,
Planned Parenthood of Austin, SafePlace, the SIMS Foundation, and Wild Basin
Wilderness Preserve. For a complete list of organizations we’ve helped, please
see www.liveoakuu.org/coffee/coffeeorgs.html

Amid all the recent controversy about the City of Austin’s proposed smoking
ban in many musical venues, it should be noted that the Live Oak Coffeehouse
Concert Series has been smoke-free since our very first concert in January 1998.
The coffeehouse is alcohol-free, as well. We provide gourmet coffee and pastries
free to our patrons, and pride ourselves on presenting really great music in a
setting where the emphasis is on the music, not selling beer or forcing people
to submit to a smoky, hazy room to hear acclaimed artists.

The new home of the Live Oak UU Church and the Live Oak Coffeehouse is the
former home of the Cypress Creek Baptist Church, on El Salido Parkway northwest
of Ranch Road 620 North. The Live Oak UU Church moved into the facility in June
2003.

The El Salido facility will provide our coffeehouse concertgoers with greater
seating capacity and an improved sound system and acoustics. Our new venue will
increase the enjoyment of all, and allow for higher attendance, which will
translate into more money for both the artists and the charities we support.

Here’s the schedule for our upcoming fall season. On each date, doors open at
7 p.m. and the music begins around 7:30 p.m.

AUGUST 22 – Jack Williams of Kerrville; Stuart Adamson of Austin to open.
SEPTEMBER 12 – Thad Beckman of Portland, Oregon, and Danny Britt of Austin.
OCTOBER 10 – The Winstons of Boulder, Colorado; Jean Synodinos (formerly of
The Nonchalants) of Austin to open.
NOVEMBER 14 – David LaMotte and Josh Lamkin of Asheville, North Carolina.
DECEMBER 5 – Austin Songwriters in the Round, with Michael Austin, Frank
Meyer, and Bill Oliver.

For driving directions, visit the church’s Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or
call 219-9008.

THE LIVE OAK COFFEEHOUSE – GREAT MUSIC FOR GOOD CAUSES.
NOW IN OUR SIXTH YEAR.
