Benefits from Coffeehouse Concert

SEPTEMBER 2003 (Austin, Texas) - The Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series this
month presents Thad Beckman and Danny Britt in a benefit performance for the
Helping Hand Home for Children, an Austin organization that aids troubled
youth. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12, at the Live Oak
Unitarian Universalist Church in Cedar Park.

Admission is $10 or a season pass at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries
will be served, and are included in the price of admission.

As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to the
performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the coffeehouse is an
all-volunteer, non-profit organization, all of the money from admissions paid
at the door and season passes goes to the performers and the charity.

The Helping Hand Home for Children was established in Austin in 1893 when a
newborn baby girl was abandoned in a shoebox at the railroad station. A group
of local women took over her care, naming the little one Mary Austin. Their
efforts for one child led to the purchase of a cottage on Guadalupe Street, so
more children could be accommodated. The Helping Hand Home has gone through a
series of facilities in the past century, but its mission remains the same: to
provide residential treatment services and therapeutic foster care for
abandoned, abused, and neglected children, and to advocate for greater public
support
of early prevention, intervention, and treatment. For more information, call
459-3353 or visit Helping Hand's Web site at www.helpinghandhome.org.

Thad Beckman, blues guitarist extraordinaire, makes a long-awaited return to
Live Oak Coffeehouse. Formerly from Austin, Thad moved to Oregon a few years
ago, but retains his affection for the city. A professional musician for more
than 20 years, Thad's finely crafted original songs are the story of life, the
voice of modern America...from the growling Delta blues of the Deep South to
evocative contemporary folk.

Danny Britt, a Kentucky native residing in Texas since 1980, recently
released his second CD to rave reviews. After serving as Jerry Jeff Walker's
road
manager for two years, Danny began writing and playing his own music as part of
the Austin music scene and by the early 1990s was performing as part of a duo.
His music contains a wide variety of styles and is hard to fit in one
category, but "progressive folk" is a good guesstimate.

Here are the upcoming dates in our Fall 2003 season. All shows are scheduled
for 7:30 p.m.
OCTOBER 10 - The Winstons of Boulder, Colorado; Jean Synodinos (formerly of
The Nonchalants) of Austin to open.
NOVEMBER 14 - David LaMotte of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jenny Reynolds
of Wellesley, Massachusetts.
DECEMBER 5 - Austin Songwriters in the Round, with Michael Austin, Frank
Meyer, and Bill Oliver.

See our Web site for the Spring 2004 concert dates and artists!

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 12, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 3315 El Salido Parkway, Cedar Park TX 78613. For
driving directions, visit the church's Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or call
219-9008.
