DECEMBER 2003 (Austin, Texas) - The Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series this
month presents "Austin Songwriters in the Round," with Michael Austin, Frankie
J. Meyer, and Bill Oliver, in a benefit for Austin's Chautauqua River School.
The performance is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5, at the Live Oak
Unitarian Universalist Church in Cedar Park.
Admission is $10 or a season pass at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries
will be served, and are included in the price of admission.
As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to the
performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the coffeehouse is an
all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization, all of the money from admissions
paid at the door and season passes goes to the performers and the charity.
Founded in 1997, Chautauqua River School provides fun, safe canoe adventures
for grade-school students. "We believe in the power of outdoor education to
keep our kids and rivers healthy," the not-for-profit group says. For more
information, call the school at 447-0238 or visit its Web site at
http://cfriverschool.org.
This show, one in our occasional series of "Austin songwriters in the round,"
could just as easily be billed as "three wild and crazy guys from Austin,
Texas." Each has his own unique style and each is a terrific songwriter. Michael
Austin is a one-of-a-kind vocalist and is one of the very few "folk
clarinetists" around. Frankie J. Meyer's debut CD, "Scrounger's Paradise," is a
brilliant work, but as good as it is, Frankie is one performer who you must see
live.
Bill Oliver, also known as Mr. Habitat and the Eco-troubador, is also a great
songwriter and performer. No telling what surprises these guys might come up
with when they get on stage together!
Here's our Spring 2004 season schedule. All shows are on Fridays, with the
music beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night.
