Why I Am a Coffeehouse Season Ticket Holder
Hi, I am the webmaster for the Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series,
and also the smiling face who usually greets folks at the door at
concert time. As a Coffeehouse Committee member and volunteer, I am
entitled to a free pass each season. However, each season, I purchase a
ticket for $40, anyway. Why do I do this? Let me tell you why I think
buying a season ticket to the Coffeehouse Concerts is such a good idea.
When I buy a season pass, I know that, even if the weather is horrible
and few can make it to Live Oak UU Church to buy tickets and watch the
show, or if I become ill or have to be out of town, the musicians and
charities supported by the concerts are guaranteed to receive my
contribution. There have been times when circumstances have led to
smaller-than-normal audiences, but the musicians and charities still
received something to make their time worthwhile, thanks to season pass
purchases.
When I buy a season pass, I know my money is going to support
musicians, both local to Austin and from all over the place as well. I
happen to share my home with a full-time musician?in fact, I met him at
the Coffeehouse?so I am very aware of the meager living the vast
majority of singer-songwriters manage to eke out?only a very few can
really support themselves on music alone. Coffeehouses like this are
among the rare places where musicians not only get to play to
attentive, receptive audiences, but receive the kind of compensation
they deserve. Even if I am unable to attend a concert, it makes my
heart glad to know that a musician will benefit from my purchase.
When I buy a season pass, I know that each month, some worthy charity
is receiving 25% of the money I paid for that month?s ticket. It?s such
an easy way to support worthy causes that I might have never supported
otherwise.
When I buy a season pass, I know that by being able to guarantee a
certain amount of money, we are able to bring high quality, in-demand
artists to our venue?people who may have to travel a long way and pay
for lodging, food, etc., in order to play for us.
When I buy a season pass, I know that none of the money is going to
fund the committee, the volunteers or the host church?every cent I pay
for that pass goes to the musicians or the selected charity. No
overhead to worry about! Plus, you save $10 by buying ahead of time,
and get into special $15 concerts for just $8!
And most important, when I buy a season pass, I know that I am helping
to keep afloat a wonderful tradition in the Austin music community that
brings quality performers in a lovely setting to music lovers in the
Northwest Austin/Cedar Park/Round Rock/Leander area. The Live Oak
Coffeehouse Concert Series has a long history and is well known among
musicians, but without the support of music lovers and their friends,
it might not last.
Don't forget, too, that your $40 brings you five wonderful concerts by
artists you might never otherwise get to see--YOU benefit by hearing it
among like-minded friends who appreciate it as much as you do and also
enjoy the coffee and refreshments. It's just plain good all around!
So, please consider purchasing a season pass for the upcoming season
TODAY. You can see what your donation will bring you in upcoming months
by visiting http://www.liveoakuu.org/coffee/ and you can purchase a
season pass at the door, or by contacting the coffeehouse committee
(phone 512-219-9008 and leave a message for them or buy from any
committee member on Sunday at Live Oak UU Church).
