JANUARY 2007 (Austin, Texas) – The Live Oak Coffeehouse this month
hosts The Laws, a Canadian duo, in a concert benefiting the South
Texas Chapter of the ALS Association. Jeff & Vida, a New Orleans duo,
will open the show. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 12,
at the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church in Northwest
Austin/Cedar Park.

Admission is $10 or a season pass. Student tickets are available at
half-price, $5. Tickets may be purchased online in advance of the
concert, using the secure PayPal service, at
www.liveoakuu.org/coffee/tickets.html.

Three-quarters of the gate goes to the performers, and one-quarter to
the selected charity. Since the coffeehouse is an all-volunteer,
not-for-profit organization, all of the money from admissions paid at
the door and season passes goes to the performers and the charity.

The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association is the only
national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the
fight against ALS. ALSA covers all the bases -- research, patient and
community services, public education, and advocacy -- in providing
help and hope to those facing the disease. The mission of The ALS
Association (ALSA) is to find a cure for and improve living with
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as "Lou Gehrig's disease."
The South Texas Chapter is based in San Antonio. For more information,
visit the chapter's Web site at www.alsa-south-tx.org.

Husband-and-wife singer/songwriters John and Michele Law exploded onto
the Canadian music scene in 2000 with the release of their first
independent CD, "Estimated Time of Revival." Six years and four CDs
later, The Laws have made the road their home, touring non-stop
throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia on a "permanent
honeymoon"…and they're just getting started! The Laws have quickly
gone from opening act to headline attraction and were invited to
perform on the main stage at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival
in 2004 and 2005 – performing on the closing night and introduced as
"Texans by way of Canada."

Jeff Burke and Vida Wakeman began performing in the bars and clubs of
New Orleans in 1998. After gaining a local following, they recorded
their critically acclaimed debut album, "One Horse Town"
(Independent/Binky 2000). With the success of the record they hit the
road full time to support the release and bring their music to a wider
audience. It wasn't long before Mike Kerwin joined the band on
stand-up bass in 2001. Their different backgrounds and shared love of
American roots music helped them create a unique sound that that fuses
blues, country, rock-and-roll, and bluegrass that can only be
described as Americana.

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 12, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 3315 El Salido Parkway, Cedar Park.
For driving directions, visit the church's Web site at
www.liveoakuu.org or call 219-9008.
