Dear Live Oak Coffeehouse community:
We are thrilled to inform you that we have a FABULOUS concert lined
up on Friday, October 12th at 7:30 P.M. with two superb songwriters,
Michael Smith and Richard Berman. It is sad that in the same breath
we must also inform you that this may be our last concert for a while.
The are several reasons why the committee with oversight of the
concerts came to this decision. All are inter-related and reflect the
committee's commitment to host the highest quality concerts possible,
both in terms of performing artists and audience experience. As with
all non-profit organizations, we rely on the good graces of our
wonderful volunteers. We have lost several key volunteers within the
past year without having new folks step forward to fill these
positions. Attendance, beginning with low season tickets sales, has
been down for a while, making it hard for us to provide sufficient
guarantees for the artists we seek. Lastly, we have had a difficult
time in finding charities to support that would reciprocate by
helping publicize our event through their resources.
We have sincerely enjoyed serving the Central Texas Folk Music
community these past 10 years and feel as though we have set a high
standard for others to follow. Even though we will no longer host a
regular monthly concert series, we do hope to present an occasional
significant concert. Please let us know if you would like to continue
to receive information about such events and/or whether you would be
interested serving as a volunteer.
More information on Friday's concert is presented below. Austin
Kessler has posted a detailed letter at the Live Oak Coffeehouse
website for those who wish to know more about the decision to
discontinue our regular concert series at this time.
We hope to see many of you at the October 12th concert. Let's make
this one of our best ever!
The Live Oak Coffeehouse Committee
