SEPTEMBER 2001 (Austin, Texas) - The Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series
continues its Fall 2001 season this month with a live performance by Austin's
Tim Henderson and Friends in a benefit for Toby Solomon, a local singer who
is terminally ill, and her family. Trey Bone, an Austin trio, will be the
opening act. The concert will be held on Friday, September 14, at 7:30 p.m.
at the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church in Northwest Austin.
Admission is $8 at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries will be served, and
are included in the price of admission.
As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to
the performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the
coffeehouse is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, all of the money
from admissions paid at the door and season passes goes to the performers and
the charity.
Tom Paxton, indisputably one of the finest songwriters of the last several
decades, has called Tim Henderson "my idea of an American songwriter."
Austin's own Toni Price recorded Tim's song, "Rusty Old Red River," on her
"Lowdown & Up" CD, and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary fame wrote that
Tim's song "Maria Consuelo" is a "magnificent, moving, powerful,
salt-of-the-earth song." Appearing with Tim in this show is autoharp virtuoso
Lindsay Haisley, along with the renowned Doo Wop singers, including Liz
Henry, and other special guests.
Trey Bone is a punny bunch; the group's name is a play on the French phrase
"tres bon," which means "very good." And they are very good at interpreting
folk-music classics. The trio of Austin Kessler, Sue Ann Kendall and Bill
Dower is united in their appreciation of great music and bringing a spirit of
fun to performing.
Here are the dates and performers for the remainder of the Fall 2001 season.
OCTOBER 12 - Ken Gaines and Wayne Wilkerson (Houston). Opening are Joe and
Tree Brunelle (Austin).
NOVEMBER 9 - Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen (Bennington, VT).
DECEMBER 14 - Ed Miller (Austin) and Andy Wilkinson (Lubbock).
Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 14, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 12310 Ranch Road 620 North. For driving
directions, visit the church's Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or call 219-9008.
THE LIVE OAK COFFEEHOUSE - GREAT MUSIC FOR GOOD CAUSES.
