OCTOBER 2001 (Austin, Texas) - The Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series
continues its Fall 2001 season this month with a live performance by Ken
Gaines of Houston and Joe & Tree Brunelle of Austin in a benefit for United
Way. The concert will be held on Friday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Live
Oak Unitarian Universalist Church in Northwest Austin.

Admission is $8 at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries will be served, and
are included in the price of admission.

As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to
the performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the
coffeehouse is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, all of the money
from admissions paid at the door and season passes goes to the performers and
the charity.

For more than a century, United Way has helped raise money for deserving
organizations and individuals in communities across America. In addition,
United Way International is involved in community efforts in 38 countries
around the world. United Way of America, the national organization, is
spearheading efforts to bring relief and comfort to the victims and families
of the recent terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. through
its September 11th Fund, which raised more than $89 million in its first week
of fundraising. More information on United Way Capital Area and the September
11th Fund is available at www.uway-austin.org.

Joe & Tree Brunelle, a husband-and-wife duo, have been making beautiful music
together for the last decade. From the campfires of Kerrville to the most
respected halls, clubs, restaurant-bars, house concerts and listening rooms
around the country, Joe & Tree have thrilled audiences with their insightful
songs and flawless vocals.

You can't dabble in the Texas music scene for long before Ken Gaines' name
comes up. Ken has quietly guided and shaped the meaning of Texas folk music
for years. Mississippi gave up a jewel when Ken moved to Texas. Like a seed
dropped by fate, his authority has grown and flourished with roots touching
far more than meets the eye. If you're a serious Texas folkie and have never
heard Ken's work, you have heard his influence whether you realize it or not.
Although he typically showcases various other artists with different styles,
Ken's solid songwriting always provides the cohesion to make it work. True to
his reputation of pulling together the best, Ken has hooked up with Wayne
Wilkerson, arguably the preeminent lead guitar performer in the Houston area.
Together, Ken and Wayne are Houston's premier duo for folk from the heart.
Ken's styling provides the foundation while Wayne adds just the right amount
of spice to serve up a rare ambrosia for your soul.

Here are the dates and performers for the remainder of the Fall 2001 season.
NOVEMBER 9 - Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen (Bennington, VT).
DECEMBER 14 - Ed Miller (Austin) and Andy Wilkinson (Lubbock).

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 12310 Ranch Road 620 North. For driving
directions, visit the church's Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or call 219-9008.
