NOVEMBER 2001 (Austin, Texas) - The Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series
continues its Fall 2001 season this month with a live performance by Steve
Gillette and Cindy Mangsen of Bennington, Vt. in a benefit for the Settlement
Home. Al Evans from Austin opens the show. The concert will be held on
Friday, November 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist
Church in Northwest Austin.

Admission is $8 at the door. Gourmet coffee and pastries will be served, and
are included in the price of admission.

As always, the concert will be smoke-free and alcohol-free, putting the
emphasis on the music and the musicians. Three-quarters of the gate goes to
the performers, and one-quarter to the selected charity. Since the
coffeehouse is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, all of the money
from admissions paid at the door and season passes goes to the performers and
the charity.

Founded in Austin in 1916, the Settlement Home is a licensed, charitable,
non-profit residential treatment center for emotionally troubled girls, ages
seven through seventeen, and a therapeutic foster home program for children
of all ages. The organization says on its Web site, "Our guiding philosophy
is that love and commitment have a profound influence on human behavior, and
our guiding belief is that children can be made safe, families can heal and
the human heart can always find, and choose, a better way." More details are
available at www.settlementhome.org.

Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen, a husband/wife team of
singers/songwriters/musicians, have separate reputations and musical
histories, but together they are purely magic. Steve is best known as a
songwriter for artists such as John Denver and Linda Ronstadt and as a
skilled guitarist. Cindy is renowned for her compelling voice and her
collaborations with Priscilla Herdman and Anne Hills. Sing Out! Magazine
reports, "Whether the song be a 500-year-old ballad, an early blues or an
original composition, Gillette and Mangsen combine respect and intuition for
a captivating performance." Steve and Cindy and their partnership, Compass
Rose Music, represent the very best in contemporary and traditional folk
music. More information on Steve, Cindy and their recordings is available at
http://www.sover.net/~gillette/index.html.

On Friday, November 30, there will be a "Live at the Live Oak" CD recording
concert by Karen Abrahams and Reckless Abandon. Allison Downey opens the
show. Season passes for the Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series will not be
honored at this show. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Live Oak
Unitarian Universalist Church.

The Fall 2001 season of the Live Oak Coffeehouse Concert Series concludes
next month with a live performance by Ed Miller of Austin and Andy Wilkinson
of Lubbock on Friday, December 14.

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 9, at the Live Oak Unitarian
Universalist Church, located at 12310 Ranch Road 620 North. For driving
directions, visit the church's Web site at www.liveoakuu.org or call 219-9008.
