KING ANNOUNCES A SPECIAL CLUB DATE WITH HIS DAD "ROCKIN' TABBY
THOMAS", A NEW MOVIE "KILL SWITCH " AND A TV SERIES "SOUND
REVOLUTION" A SIX-PART WEEKLY SERIES HOSTED BY MORGAN FREEMAN
NEW ORLEANS November 24, 2008 -- Grammy award winning guitar virtuoso
Chris Thomas King announces a special live performance at Chelsea's
December 5th in Baton Rouge. Scheduled to join him on stage as a very
special guest for the first time since the closing of the famous juke
joint Tabby's Blues Box almost 5 years ago is his father, blues
legend Rockin' Tabby Thomas.
"It's great to have my father on stage with me again because for
awhile I thought he would never get of the hospital."
Tabby Thomas suffered a stroke and was forced to close his popular
Baton Rouge juke joint in 2004. Through extensive therapy Tabby has
regained his singing voice but has not recovered enough to play
guitar the the way he once did. The performance at Chelsea's will be
the first time the father and son officially share the stage in
nearly 5 years.
Airing tonight is part two of Smithsonian Channel's "Sound
Revolution." A six-part weekly series beginning November 16th, hosted
by award-winning actor Morgan Freeman. Documentary footage, expert
interviews and performances by great musicians trace the origins of
be-bop, jazz, rock 'n' roll and soul music, all emanating
from "ground zero" – Clarksdale, Mississippi – and the Mississippi
Delta.
Chris Thomas King makes appearances throughout the series talking
about his own innovative recordings and demonstrating his electric
and acoustic guitar stylings. King has worked with Morgan Freeman
before in the film "Last of The Mississippi Jukes."
Most of each hour-long program is filled with recent performances,
largely from the Montreux Jazz Festival, featuring the greatest
performers of music with roots in the South. Featured with Chris
Thomas King is B.B. King, Ike Tuner, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Eric
Clapton Carlos Santana, Robert Cray, Miles Davis, The Neville
Brothers and many others.
