2008 evaporate so quickly?

GREAT CHRISTMAS MUSIC FROM SAL ANTHONY
      MARY DAWSON'S 2009 TEACHING SCHEDULE
      SONGWRITING TIP FOR DECEMBER
AMERICAN SONGSPACE --A GREAT NEW SONGWRITING WEBSITE

It's That Time of Year Again by Sal Anthony

Time to bring out the Chrismtas music, and this Holiday CD by Sal
Anthony on CQK Records is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit.

British reviewer, Tony Cummings, says this about Sal's CD:

"Sal is a smooth-voiced singer from Pennsylvania and this is a
rather impressive entrance into the crowded field of Christmas music
albums. Credit must go to Bruce Greer and Mary Dawson who produce
five tracks here and also composed the excellent new song, 'Only
Those,' a mid tempo number with a bubblling keyboard riff.

Elsewere, the musical partnership even manage to breathe some new
life into “Good King Wenceslas” (thanks largely to a nice synth bass
riff)…Throughout this album, Sal’s voice is as smooth and warm as a
mug of hot chocolate…"

Stop by the new CQK Store at http://songwritingnews.c.topica.com/maamzFFabMqXAb4vydybaehnZa/ to pick up your copy
-- or as a gift for a friend or relative. Also check out Sal's

Mary's December Songwriting Tip: The Gift of Music
http://songwritingnews.c.topica.com/maamzFFabMqXzb4vydybaehnZa/
Everybody's feeling it. It's now been made official -- the United
States is in a true recession. Money is tight...and here we are in
the middle of the Christmas Season again. What can we afford to give
this year? Do we just buy another sweater or tie that gets stuck in
the back of somebody's closet?

Here's a suggestion...one that I am trying to put into practice
myself. Instead of giving someone a "thing," why not give them a
"musical experience?" There are so many to choose from in every city
and town in the country.

For instance, here in the DFW area, my husband and I are planning to
take our son to hear Handel's Messiah at the beautiful Bass
Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. Then, I'll be taking my five-year-old
granddaughter, Lola, for an outing to the famous Morton H. Meyerson
Symphony Hall in Dallas. We're going to get all dressed up and
experience the wonder of the symphony with the Dallas Children's
Choir as they present the "Stories of Christmas" in music. At Lola's
age, I am confident that this will make a memory she will keep long
after the latest Barbie has gone on to Barbie Heaven.

But it's not just about Big Venue gigs! Small jazz clubs...church
Christmas concerts...and special Christmas perfomances by artists in
every style are offering a wealth of wonderful opportunities this
Season. Watch the newspaper. You will be surprised at what you will
find...and you will simultaneouly be acquainting yourself with your
own music community, which is a basic first step in networking and
promoting the songs you are writing and the music you hope to
perform in 2009.

And then, of course, recorded music in every genre is the "gift that
keeps on giving." If you give your favorite CD to a friend or loved
one this year, you can add it to a basket filled with gingersnaps
and hot chocolate mix. Or how about a Barry White CD with a bottle
of wine and a candle? (You can be sure the recipient will thank you
for that one)

You can be choosy, selective and personal in what you include in
your gift basket. Your Christmas budget may be downsized, but the
joy you give will be supersized!

When I was only sixteen years old, my then-boyfriend took me to my
first performance of Handel's Messiah. I was a bit doubtful that I
would really enjoy it, but I went anyway, and it changed my life.
Throughout the decades since, that oratorio has accompanied me
through joys and sorrows, painting the backdrop to almost every one
of my life experiences. Each Christmas I am so grateful to David
Mezger for his gift of music to me. Now I'm trying my best to pay it
forward.

Have a Very Blessed and Merry Musical Christmas!
