One thing I really miss in LSDJ is a full ADSR envelope rather than just Attack
and Release. I don't know how difficult it would be to implement, but I, and I'm
sure many others, would find it really, really useful. Some commands would have
to be changed like Exy... Maybe adding a volume column in the phrase screen and
having Exy fade from the current volume?

LSDj implements what the hardware supports, which is an initial volume +
increasing/decreasing volume. There is a volume envelope in tables, (stay
on volume x for y number of ticks) but beware that it will make the sound
noisier because the waveform is restarted on every volume change.

You can also use tables to emulate various volume curves by using the E
command in strategic places. (You can use the H command or grooves to delay
the exeuction of commands in tables.) For a general introduction to ticks
and grooves, please see:
http://www.packetsofknowledge.se/LSDj:Ticks_and_grooves

Even if you can't reliably get a precise ADSR envelope, you can do a lot of
fun stuff with tables.

Hi there guys,

I've always been a grey brick guy, but I just got a micro and I'm trying to run
goomba with LSDJ.

Which version of goomba is the one to use with the latest lsdj_..._goomba
release? I got it running but couldn't save what I made.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Hi Nick, to get save working, you need to use the save functionality
within Goomba (I think). It's hidden into some menu that you can
access with some special button combination - shoulder buttons are
involved, if I remember right.

Hi!
Sorry about that, should be fixed now.
There seems to have been some kind of change at the web hotel that caused
this and other issues. Please report if you notice anything strange.

Long ago (maybe 5 years?) someone (Rabato?) made a master sync device
that outputted sync for "everything" in the same time. (I think

Microcontroller+potentiometer+outputs. However, now my Google-fu fails

The deal: you can send me a track and have it released on the compilation.

perhaps someone on the LSDJ is interested in releasing some nice GB-chip?

sorry for warming up that topic..
i discovered long ago that EXX not only produces clicks on its own
channel but also on the other channels.
(try out by panning the instruments)
maybe there is at least a workaround for this.

I downloaded this file

did this:

1 - open the file with goomba and created .gba file.
2 - open the ez flash IV client and send it to the sd card.

when I open the lsdj.gba created with goomba it fails while booting with this
error:

"CARTRIDGE TEST

PLEASE WAIT . . . FAIL!

TRY CLEANING PINS
OR REPLACE BATTERY

SORRY!

IF YOU USE GOOMBA,

Hi!
I don't know all the specifics about how Goomba works, but this likely
means there is some problems with your cartridge. Sorry about that.

Right, I added this startup test in v4.1.1 to prevent random errors
when people try to use the program with broken or incompatible
cartridges... So the chance is that it works as supposed.

At least I hope that other people have managed to use v4.5.4 with
Goomba... I don't remember if I tried it myself.

Hi

I was poking around the rom with yy-chr, and noticed that the fonts were 16x16
pixels.
However, in LSDJ they are displayed in 8x8
Does anyone have info on how the fonts are scaled? Do you take the medium values
of the pixels? or every even pixel?

Thanks

Hi!
The format is 8x8, 2 bits per pixel (4 colors).

The fonts ARE shown as 8x8, however there are caveats.
1) The program shows the tiles in x2 resolution in the left panel to
make them more comfortable to look at.
2) The grid in the right side panel (close-up/edit) is all messed in
the version I found, so it may look something it isn't. (yy-chr.net,
v0.99, 2011-09-19 running on Windows 7.)
3) You need to adjust the offset with the byte +/- buttons. You've
probably figured that out already. However, each subset of tiles has a
small header (this is what looks like garbage between the tile sets)
which will offset the data structure by something that isn't a
multiple of 16, so each consecutive tileset has to be manually
re-aligned.

Right. In fact I thought that it was 16x16, but it was yy-chr that was zooming
x2

For info, here is what I could get:

Hi, all!
After seeing this
(http://s27119512.einsundeinsshop.de/sess/utn154f7c7d2bc6f69/shopdata/index.shop\
script), I am wondering wether Johan Kotlinski would consider develop similar
functions: i.e. backup/patch ability via a gb-usb cable or even has midi out
capability. It would be great for those who use non usb cart. Besides no more
additional tools like lsdjmanager, flash programmer would be needed. Though it
may be not easy to realize:) What do you guys think?

Have you seen:

It would be rad to send/receive projects/insturments over a link cable cable
though, just for gameboy to gameboy. The commercial POCKET MUSIC game lets you
do this.

I have had no issues with that usb sync crap when I made it, but two people have
contacted me and said that they have had issues.

Just a warning, that's all. In the end I think one person had issues getting it
to work properly with Linux (even though it theoretically should work fine).

Peace,

tomczak

Hi!
That looks like an attractive adapter, cheap and nice. Do you know how
it works? Is it similar to Arduinoboy?

Possibility to transfer songs and instruments over link cable has been
requested once in a while. That is maybe something I could consider
first. After doing that, it should (maybe?) not be so impossible to
write PC software+hardware that makes backup of cartridge contents...

From what I read its closer to the gwem clock sync interface than to aboy.

Nah. It does support raw MIDI forwarding IIRC.

Hi there!
That's a kind of good question. The .sav is a raw dump of the contents
of the cartridge save memory, so usually it is headerless, although I
would not be surprised if some emulators or backup software put some
header on it. If you want to check whether a .sav contains LSDj data
or not, I think that can be done - there are things you can check for,
for example the "rb" items described here
http://littlesounddj.wikia.com/wiki/.sav_structure

Contents of .lsdsng do not have any header at all.
