Right,

the KITT stuff etc works aswell without the 7414, put it out and check
again. If it doesn't work it is more than possible that you accidentally
destroyed the PIC or did something with it's memory. ( I don't know yet
from my head, but it could possibly be that you put it in program mode
and erased a part of the flash memory.)
Well, in the end, start with replacing the Quart (cause it is alot
easier to get than a burned pic) , replace the 7414. If that doesn't
work, replace the PIC.
