Generally on chips you start counting the pins from the upper left
corner, with the bump pointing up, then count CCW.
Like this:

1 \/ 18
2 17
3 16
4 15
5 14
6 13
7 12
8 11
9 10

Is there an easy to tell what pins on the schematic for the PIC correspond to the spins on the actual IC? Sorry for such a basic question, Tony...
