Hello Jim, If he has any performances scheduled for anywhere in the Midwest I
haven't learned about it, but there is reason to hope because he gives every
indication of wanting to participate in another 3 tenors concert, perhaps in
Germany this time. I really cannot imagine the big man enjoying life without the
sound of applause roaring in his ears, though I may be wrong about that, and I
suspect that if he gets a little rest, loses a little weight, and feels a little
better, he will return for some limited dates in 2007 or so. His biggest problem
as I see it is that because of his weight, he still has a lot of pain in his hip
and legs. If not for that, I'm not sure anything would keep him from performing.
Its who he is, you know.

more! Does anyone know
if he will be appearing in the Detroit area on this final tour? If
anyone knows (yes or no), please post whatever information you have.
I was priviliged to hear the Maestro (along with the equally great
Domingo and Carreras) when they appeared in Detroit in 1999, but that
has been my only oppportunity to hear any of those legendary voices
first-hand. As had been publicized prior to the concert, Pavarotti
was suffering the lingering effects of a sore throat and was unable to
hit the high notes until about halfway through the show. Though you
could plainly read the frustration in his face, he never stopped
trying. When he finally nailed his first high 'c' of the night, we
gave him a standing ovation. One good thing about a sports-crazy town
like Detroit is that we understand if one of our stars has a bad
night. We just ask that they give it their best shot and MAN, did he
come through for us that night.
I know that I will never forget that magical night. Oh, by the way,
the only person in my family who shares my passion for tenor music is
my mother-in-law. So, This 53 year-old guy took his 78 year old date
to see the great trio. We both had an unforgettable time.
Peace to all
Jim Pratt
