Hello David,
I really expected Gergiev to become a great Mahler conductorı. I must say
however that I donıt like his Mahlerıs with the London SO. I don't like his
tempi etc etc. It seems to me he only wants to play Mahler different from
anyone before him. IMO he better stay a bit longer with the Russian
composers.
BTW his popularity did not rise either from the fact he played with his
Russian orchestra for the Russian troops in Abkhazia... The least one can
say that such a move (maybe) proves that musicians better stay with music
and keep away from politics.
