Re: [Mark Heard Music Zone] Important Notice to Membership

I believe that Callie is trying to say that topics for the list should focus
on Mark Heard's music, hence the title of the group. Mark's music covered
many issues and I think that discussing Mark Heard lyrics that dealt with
racism would be valid. I don't think that anyone here believes in racist
theories, but this is not the forum to discuss it.

There is one other thing that I would add. Be very careful judging those in
the past using present sensibilities. Remember, we have many notions in
modern western culture that have evolved over thousands of years. Thinking
among Christians has evolved as well. There is no condemnation of slavery
in the Bible, yet Christian organizations led to the abolition of slavery
throughout the world.

We must learn to judge the past by the standards that they had at the time.
