It was pretty great, actually. I picked up Ampbuzz and Landing, but
Herzog didn't have nuthin' due to the spooky Kinskiites keeping that
shit all live improv an' shit. (Oh - for those who dunno The
Landing, go find out who Mars played with at
http://www.landingsite.net -- nice guys, and really beautiful music,
in my utterly arbitrary opinion.)
So rarely does such a nice show come together. I've heard horror
stories of how MA had to play with Rage Against the Machine cover
bands on the Frankfurt tour. The touring band was great, and the
local acts were great.
As for Mars, well. I can only say that the audience brought a
certain charismatic tension to the performance - which was 100% new,
un-immortalized-by-some-kind-of-release material. Bobby got to show
off his pedal that happens to be named after the male genitalia, to
adoring post-show onlookers. Mark endured some hearty guffaws from
cowboy-hat-wearing make-out kings and their gold-chain wearing
friends. Strange old men did the one-legged Acceleratashxffle. And
Dean was there.
I could mention that it's very strange to see the same band at the
same place twice in a row in a period of a few months. But instead
I'll mention that -- like last time -- America's Favorite Band Whose
Name Is An Anagram for "A MECCA SALT ERROR" ended a gentle evening
with a loud dose of tightly wound extra-nice spacerock, and that's
with wobbly cymbals and strings randomly falling out of tune and
shit.
-Heh.
