MARTINA AWED BY CARNEGIE HALL EXPERIENCE
GAC WILL BRING VIEWERS EXCLUSIVE HISTORIC PERFORMANCES BY COUNTRY
MUSIC GREATS
Calling it they marrying of two legends, Martina McBride says
performing on the Carnegie Hall stage one of life's greatest honors.
She joins several fellow Opry members in a historic telecast, Grand
Ole Opry from Carnegie Hall, exclusively on Great American Country
(GAC), Sunday, March 12, at 8 p.m. ET.
"When I dreamed of playing Carnegie Hall, I never dreamed I would get
to come here and play with the Opry. That makes it even more
special," Martina says of the experience. "The Opry is so historic
and Carnegie Hall is so historic. It's the marrying of two legends.
It just feels right."
The program, hosted by Vince Gill, was taped last November during the
Country Music Association (CMA) Awards week, and captures the Opry's
first return to Carnegie Hall in 44 years. The two-hour event
includes memorable performances from some of the Opry's biggest
names.
"This may be the only opportunity I will ever have to sing music on
this hallowed ground," Gill says of his experience. "What an amazing
place to have the opportunity to come and share the 80th anniversary
of the Grand Ole Opry."
Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss sing their duet, "Whiskey Lullaby,"
which claimed song of the year honors at the 2005 CMA Awards. Other
artist performances featured in the special include Trisha Yearwood,
Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins and Ricky Skaggs along with County Music
Hall of Fame inductees Little Jimmy Dickens, Charley Pride and Bill
Anderson.
"The biggest thrill for me was coming in the stage door," Anderson
whispers with a big smile. "I didn't have to buy a ticket and I got
into Carnegie Hall."
GAC recently renewed its agreement with the Grand Ole Opry, ensuring
its exclusive rights to the popular Saturday primetime series, Grand
Ole Opry Live, for several years while extending the deal to include
additional Opry-related programming.
"For GAC, broadcasting a special edition of the Grand Ole Opry from
Carnegie Hall is a no-brainer," says Ed Hardy, president of the
network. "Our viewers are huge fans of the Opry, so we know this is
a programming event that will be very special to country music
enthusiasts all over the country. And when they tune in, they will
see just how special it was for the artists who performed there."
For the finale, all the artists gather on stage to sing "Will The
Circle Be Unbroken," "I'll Fly Away" and "I Saw The Light." In
addition to the on-stage performances, The Grand Ole Opry from
Carnegie Hall also features exclusive back-stage interviews with the
artists.
"It is overwhelming for a guy who grew up the way I grew up, and now
I'm standing here on this stage at Carnegie Hall. This is
unbelievable," says Trace Adkins.
"We are all in awe to be in this building," Yearwood shares with the
GAC cameras.
