Hi, there!

This is a real fun song. The only time I heard it on the radio was when they
played a bit of it on "Car Talk" at that point where they play an
automotive-related song to segue into the station break.

Livin' Above My Station

I never been to college
barely finished seventh grade
that don't make me worse or better
I'm just made the way I'm made
workin' hard at what I'm good at
pumpin' gas and fixin' cars
I like the smell of gasoline
and I don't mind patchin' tires
paid my dues by working places
where the owner's hands was clean
and ain't no Christian thought erases
how he treated me
so mean
but I done the things he asked me
and smiled right to his face
'cause I knew in a year or two
I was gonna own this place
and I kept my dreams within my reach
and every one came true
'cause when you stick to what you're
good at
good things come to you
and now I'm happy
here livin' above my station
I ain't jokin' when I say that it's a gas
come and fill your tank up downstairs
at my station
then y'all come with upstairs
and get your glass
you'll see I'm happy
here livin' above my station
I got no complaints at all about my life
'cause there's just one way
to live above your station
and that's with your friends and Dr. Pepper
and your wife
I got friends back in Wyomin'
where I spent my early days
livin' life like Willy Loman
losin' sleep to get a raise
in pursuit of some vague fortune
they go runnin' off afar
don't they realize that happiness is just bein' who y'ar?
and I hear them talk about me
I can hear the things they say
that I could have been a doctor, or a lawyer
in L. A.
but I tell them 'bout that carpenter
whose Greatness fills us all
and they realize that in His eyes
no dream is ever small
CHORUS
