Damn, it has sure been a while... I just realized today that it's been 18 months
since I went out with a special lady last, but I'm pretty happy to be heading
out tonight. I've had a bit of trouble finding ANY decent women lately so I
joined up at this place a couple of weeks ago http://www.meetlocalbabez.com/qkca
. And so far been doing pretty well, just chatting to a few girls near me on
Webcam and via the mail system on the place, but this is the first one I've
lined up. So anyway, wish me luck guys!!

Hi gang..

Here's the latest news. Most of it is related to my side project
with Mark Moldre, The Supahip, including our first reviews, and our
upcoming debut live show..

The Supahip - 'Seize The World' album

The album has been out now in the US and Australia now for a little
while, and people seem to be enjoying it, which is nice. The
official release date in the Uk/Europe is August 22nd.. next week,
but for those in that part of the world waiting to pick up a copy,
you can order it from the Big Radio Records store RIGHT NOW!! Go to
www.bigradio.com.au and go to the store. We still have a VERY small
amount of bonus disks left too, so for those who want to buy, they
won't last long. Remember also, that pretty much the only places you
can pick the album up are at www.notlame.com, at the Big Radio site
at www.bigradio.com.au and a few other online and indie record
stores. Don't wait for this to appear at your local HMV/Virgin
Megastore etc store.. it probably won't make it there!

For those still not sure about whether they're interested in this
side project of mine, we now have some reviews to help convince you!

You can go to a very nice review at Fufkin.com at
http://www.fufkin.com/columns/bennett/bennett_rev_08_05.htm

A rare one from our home land Australia
http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/reviews/music/2577/

Whisperin and Hollerin in the Uk have done a nice review
http://www.whisperinandhollerin.com/reviews/review.asp?id=2647 and a
nice, in depth interview which gives a lot of background on the
project at http://www.whisperinandhollerin.com/chat/chat.asp?id=2721

Erasing Clouds have a nice one down the page here
http://www.erasingclouds.com/wk2505reviews.html

And we just received this one in from our friends at American-uk.com
http://www.americana-uk.com/html/reviews.html

A very nice start if I do say so myself...

My Space site..

We now have our own little place in the MySpace world. If you go to
http://www.myspace.com/thesupahip you'll find our nice little page,
with 4 mp3s up there for your perusal, just in case you STILL aren't
convinced about buying the album. If you have the album, and feel
inclined to tell us about it, feel free to write us a comment. We
always love hearing from people. Remember, we're a long way away
from the rest of the world here in Australia...

Airplay?

We've been very lucky to have gotten a lot of airplay from nice
pockets of stations across the Uk and Europe, plus some airplay in
the US. Even more amazingly though, we're getting some airplay here
at home, particularly on the wonderful FBi radio here in Sydney.
We're optimistic we'll start getting played on one of the big indies
soon, in which case I'll be begging you guys to put in requests and
vote for us on their chart, but I won't bug you with that til it
happens!

DEBUT GIG!!!

Yes, finally we've decided to get out there and do some shows. Our
first ever show will be here in Sydney on September 21, headlining
at the Hopetoun Hotel in Surry Hills, supported by the
wonderful "just coming home from the UK for a few weeks" James
Cooper (with his brother Greg) and the poptastic the Shake Ups. It
promises to be a fun night and we're hoping for a good turnout. So
get your friends together if you live in Sydney, and if you're
overseas and have friend, email them and tell them to come down! Of
course, we're still trying to work out who'll be the 3rd Supahip,
but we're quietly confident we'll have that sorted before the gig...
I hope..

Mark Moldre's "real band's" new album!!

My Supahip partner Mark Moldre has a 'real' band called Hitchcock's
Regret, and frankly, they're great. And they have a brand new album
called 'endless intermission'. I produced 2 tracks, and make a small
cameo appearance, while the rest of the tracks were produced by Tim
Powles and founding member Shane Pex. It's a very adventurous album,
and one that I encourage you all to investigate further at
http://www.hitchcocksregret.com/ where you'll find background info
and audio snippets of the whole album. And if you like what you hear
you can buy it from here -
http://www.thechurchband.com/shop/default.php

So, as you can see, lots of exciting things happening. We really
appreciate your support so far with this record.. we're both really
proud of it, and for those not sure about whether you'll be into it,
please go and check out the samples either at www.notlame.com or at
our my space page, and take a chance on us and pick the album up. We
can almost guarantee that you'll like it!

Thanks again. Til next time..

MC

Hi Marvin
Glad you enjoyed the tunes - I heard those handclaps from here. Hope
you enjoy the rest of the album as much.
Cheers

Hey Bryan
Mark here - MC's partner in crime on the supahip album...I've never
joined one of these yahoo groups before, so I hope I'm doing this
right....

thanks for the kind words - and yeah MC is spot on - we had a ball
making that album, and began the album solely for our own
satisfaction - the great thing is that people really seem to be
enjoying it which is a nice bonus! Recording and mixing a song a day
was a great challenge - but working with MC, well I think he must
have too much red cordial cause man he thinks quick on his feet! And
you mentioned his Macca bassline - it was a pleasure to watch him
play bass, because that Macca bounce, swing and melodic style comes
so naturally to him. I played bass on a coupla tracks only to feel
intimidated by him watching over my shoulder!!

Hmm and I discover here that we're also doing clips for Something's
Gotta Give and Tulsa! Glad I checked in....Cool....
cheers
mark

I'd be surprised if there are any tabs/chord things out there for me.
That would be a major achievement, if someone had actually tried to
work out what i was doing!!

If there's anything you want to know what the chords are, let me know
and i'll remember them for you!!

Thanks Bryan. We DEFINITELY were going for a Revolver thing with
Satellite. I'd just picked up some old 'Beatle-like' microphones off
Ebay, and we used them exclusively on that track.. it helped give it
the totally retro thing we were looking for.

I think the thing i'm most happy about the Supahip record, is when
Mark and i got together to do it, we decided to really just have fun.
We were actually just doing it for ourselves, so we allowed ourselves
to be as self indulgent as we wanted.. we didn't care if it was
fashionable, or too retro or too derivative. We just wanted to have
some fun. So some songs we consciously went after a sound, or a feel
or a songwriting trick. Why? Just because we could. So while this
album is probably more self indulgent than either off would ever have
seriously made, we like it because of that!!

The videos, BTW, are a new thing we're starting to do at the studio.
The Supahip were essentially guinea pigs, to see if we could actually
do it, and it seemed to work out well. We're going to do a couple more
in the next few weeks, for Tulsa and Something's Gotta Give, and
probably do a little 'making of' interview/featurette which we'll have
available on DVD later on. It's very liberating to be able to do
things yourself!!

Hello, and welcome to the brand new MCarp discussion group!!

I'm the moderator of course, so i hope we can keep it all clean and
civil. Feel free to post and discuss any aspects of my musci and
activities. I'm not adverse to criticism, as long as it's
constructive
and reasonably polite... this isn't some sort of sycophantic group
where i expect people to just come on and discuss how wonderful i am.
Even i don't think everything i do is great, and i'll be quite happy
to throw in my own thoughts about some things i'm not so proud of in
hindsight.

So, i look forward to hearing from you when you have anything to add.

Thanks

MC
