(5/2/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- MeShell Ndegeocello sought radio adds Monday
(April 29) and Tuesday (April 30) for the remix of her
single "Pocketbook," the first single from her album, Cookie: The
Anthropological Mixtape due out June 4. The remix, produced by Missy
Elliott and Rockwilder, features Tweet and Redman.
Ndegeocello told LAUNCH that she was pleased that Elliott,
Rockwilder, Tweet, and Redman appeared on the record. "I thank them
above all the other people because I asked, and they did it,"
Ndegeocello said. "I'm just thankful that they thought it was cool to
participate because so many other people couldn't."
According to a feature story on Ndegeocello in May 2002 issue of Vibe
magazine, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Musiq Soulchild were all
invited to appear on Cookie, but did not for various reasons.
Ndegeocello is especially excited about Redman's verses. "Hey, Redman
is on my track," she told LAUNCH. "I think is flow is incredible,
ingenious. His whole use of metaphors. I'm just thankful that he did
it. I'm thankful that he's helping to get people to hear my s--t."
Ndegeocello expects Cookie to receive more support from black radio
than her previous efforts. "I have all the black cache artists,"
Ndegeocello said. "I got a rapper on my record. That's what I'm
trying to say. I'm going to get on radio and everything."
Cookie also features excepts from political activists Angela Davis
and Dick Gregory, as well as music appearances from Lalah Hathaway,
Caron Wheeler, and Talib Kweli.
