Anyone interested in starting a professional co-ed a Cappella group?
I'm new to the area, moving to DC from Boston and looking to start a
kick-butt, in-your-face a Cappella group. If tight harmony, exciting
and challenging songs and arrangements, and having a lot of fun are
what you look for in a group, then contact me!
I am not familiar with the scene here, but if I get enough responses
then I will hold auditions as soon as possible and we'll get this bad
larry off the ground....

Best way to reach me: jenellis@...

Thanks!

I'm sorry folks -
I did a bad bad thing. I auditioned for another group and I made it.
So I won't be starting a group anytime soon. But hey, you guys don't
need me to start one, you can do it on your own! And if you do please
let me know so I can come to your concerts and stuff!!!

So so sorry...

I would like to know about existing acappella groups in West Virginia.
I would like to join a group within commute of Weston. I tried the
barbershop group in Fairmont and I loved their blend of voices, but
I didn't get home from rehearsal until midnight, and that's too late
for my early work schedule. I am primarily interested in contemporary
acappella rather than barbershop. I sing baritone and bass.

Greetings fellow crooners!

Ted Donat here, Musical Director of dcVocals. Wanted to put the word out on
the street that dcVocals, a coed a cappella group that performs in the DC
area, is looking for men in all voice parts. dcVocals' latest claim to fame
is that two weeks ago, we performed for Mr. Rogers at a semi-retirement
sendoff hosted by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting! It was a great
honor to sing for one of our childhood heroes...

If you or someone you know is interested, please have them check out our web
site at www.dcvcocals.com. It has FAQ's and contact info for dcVocals, or
they can e-mail me at tdonat@....

Hope to see you all at the Harmony Sweepstakes on Saturday night at GWU's
Lisner Auditorium (I am one of the esteemed (?) judges) and at the
Afterglow, which dcVocals is hosting at Froggy Bottom (2142 Pennsylvania

(Also, I thought "Shenandoah" by the Denver A CAppella Project was the best

Hi all,

My name is Rob Baltensberger, bass singer in JazzKatz. I spotted your
Egroup and thought I would join to keep abreast of A Cappella
happenings back east. I was born in Abington Pa but now live in the
mountains west of Denver, sorta like the Poconos only higher.

JazzKatz is comprised of me and my wife Rosemary, Linne Bueche, and
Ryan Wilson. We are three years old and do mostly vocal jazz. Our
web page is under construction but readable. Come visit us.

We were just informed that we qualified for the Denver Sweeps on March
24th.

Glad to meet you all.

Rob B.

Plenty of local and national a cappella talent will be performing
this
weekend at Celebrate Fairfax!, more humbly known to most of us as the
Fairfax Fair. On Friday night, enjoy both The DC Accidentals (6:30
pm, The Center Spotlight) and **Rockapella** (7:15 pm, The Birchmere
Stage). If Saturday's better for you, there's Ball In The House
(2:30
pm, The Michelob Light Stage), the Virginia Ham Barbershop Quartet
(2:45 pm, The Center Spotlight and 5:00 pm, The 4th Street Cafe), and
an encore performance by The DC Accidentals (7:00 pm, The Center
Spotlight). If Sunday's your only day to enjoy the festivities,
you're still in luck, with The Humbuckers performing at 1:45 pm on
The
Michelob Light Stage. Come on out and join us all -- and be sure to
get there early, so you won't miss a note! For more information,
check the Celebrate Fairfax! website at www.fairfaxfair.com.

About the Band…

The Humbuckers is a semi-pro, all-male group with steady paid gigs, a
well-reviewed debut album, and a growing fan base. Aside from
DaVinci's Notebook, no other a cappella group in the
Baltimore-Washington area performs as often as we do. Our sound is
focused on an alternative rock style performing songs from artists
like Blink 182 and Matthew Sweet as well as our own originals which
fit that style (check out our tunes here). We've performed at the
Harmony Sweepstakes and some of the area's biggest festivals, received
good local press, and have done commercial recording work as well. The
group also owns a complete pro audio system for live shows and a home
recording studio.

In the future for The Humbuckers? More gigging at bigger and better
venues for bigger audiences! An even rockier vocal band sound! Another
CD? Quitting our day jobs?

Help us figure it out... be a part of DC's rockin'-est vocal band with

About you…

Previous a cappella experience, arranging/song-writing skills,
instrumental vocal sounds, and stage presence are pluses. Commitment
and enthusiasm are essential, as this takes a substantial amount of
effort and time outside our day jobs.

Singers - We are seeking a tenor or a baritone with a strong high
range. We need versatile performers who can rock out on solos, but
still blend in the background. You don't have to be able to sight-read
on the spot, but you need to be able to learn and memorizing music
quickly.

Vocal Percussionists - We are seeking someone with a good sense of
rhythm and strong VP sounds to serve as our percussionist. We want
someone who can anchor the group's rhythm and add texture and drive to
the music.

If you like your day job, but really love a cappella, this is the
group for you. Contact Eric at TheHumbuckers@... or call

Savoy's amateur membership is a diverse group of volunteers drawn from the

Hi all, FYI, just added a bunch of new tracks to A Cappella Always, the 24/7
all-a cappella Internet radio station.

Tune in for great holiday classics from the Jubliation Singers, m*pact and
*N Sync (hey, why not? they can do a cappella right...), plus a few live
tracks off the House Jacks' new CD, "Drive."

thanks,
Eric (former tenor/baritone, "Press Any Key," Berkeley, CA)

DCVOCALS NEWS:

We've got some exciting announcements to share with all of you, and we hope
you'll
keep reading until you get to that part. If not, you might miss out on the
most exciting a cappella-related news of the hour!

First on the list of exciting news: dcVocals has entered the digital age
with a bang! By which we mean, we're proud to announce our new web site!
You can view this feat of technical virtuosity for yourself by simply
pointing your web browser to http://www.dcvocals.com and the Internet will
do the rest.

In other news, dcVocals will be performing at the Pageant of Peace
(http://www.pageantofpeace.org/) on Tuesday, December 11, at 8:00 PM. The
show will be at the Ellipse in our nation's capitol. Come on, come all,
this is your chance to see dcVocals for FREE!!

Finally, dcVocals is pleased as punch to welcome our three newest members:
Dan Hoy, Mark Paist, and Tony Simpson. They're nice boys, and we think
they'll go far.

So, to summarize:
-Come see us on the 11th
-Check out our new web site
-Send us flowers and beer for our new members

Yours,
dcVocals

If you can't make it to the Pageant of Peace on Dec. 11th, per the
previous posting, fear not -- there's more free a cappella on the
Ellipse this month:
Join The DC Accidentals on Monday, Dec. 10th at 8:00-8:30 pm -- and
if you can't make it then (or even if you can, and you still want
more) you can catch us on Monday, Dec. 17th at 8:00-8:30 pm. C'mon,
do you really want to go to the mall and engage in full-contact
shopping? Grab a warm jacket, head down to the Ellipse to see the
trees and the menorah, and enjoy some festive tunes!

Hi all, just want to mention that I'll no longer be sending out A Cappella
Always program updates on this region-specific mailing list, but you can
keep up with the world's only 24/7 a cappella radio station by subscribing
to the general a cappella lists at Yahoo! Groups ('acappellajazz' or
'acappella'). Or, of course, just come visit at:

thanks,
Eric (former tenor/baritone, "Press Any Key," Berkeley, CA)
