Amy Engelhart and Jeff Thacher Headline the Second Annual Project-Philly A
Cappella Summer Clinic and Showcase

ARDMORE, PA (May 29, 2012) - Vocal professional and songwriter Amy Engelhardt,
former member of legendary a cappella group The Bobs, and Jeff Thacher, current
vocal percussionist with the equally legendary vocal band Rockapella, will lead
an open master class for all singers and provide on-stage performance clinics
for full contemporary a cappella groups at the 2nd Annual A Cappella Summer
Clinic and Showcase taking place at Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA on
Saturday, July 28, 2012.

AMY ENGELHARDT spent 13+ years as the sole female member of Grammy-nominated
vocal "band without instruments," The Bobs, winning multiple ASCAP and ACA
awards for writing, arranging and vocals on their CDs and DVDs and touring
everywhere from Los Angeles to Lichtenstein. She created Rhapsody In Bob for
the band (Gershwin's concerto arranged for piano and vocal orchestra), which
premiered at Wolf Trap and toured with Columbia Artists. Amy's insanely diverse
vocal credits include Danny Elfman's score for Real Steel, Jim Henson's Animal
Jam, Harry Shearer & Judith Owen at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Barbra Streisand's
Timeless concerts, the Los Angeles Bach Festival, Neil Young's Living With War,
The Doctor Demento Show and dozens of professional theatrical productions. Her
solo album, Not Gonna Be Pretty, hailed as "the unlikely marriage of Nellie
McKay and Jim Steinman," garnered multiple Just Plain Folks Award nominations
("The Grassroots Grammys" – LA Times). Amy was recently honored with the MAC
Award for Songwriting (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) and was a finalist for
the 2012 Richard Rodgers Award for New Musicals for her score to BASTARD JONES,
a rock adaptation of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones. A graduate of Syracuse
University and Boston's Berklee College of Music, Amy is a proud member of ASCAP
and AFTRA/SAG, and an honorary member of the Vienna Boys Choir. She splits her
time between New York and Los Angeles. She can be found on the web at
www.coldfoot.net/amy

JEFF THACHER is best known as a 19-year member of the notorious Rockapella
(www.rockapella.com), which continues to be one of the most successful pro a
cappella groups of all time. When not touring the globe with the group, he has
applied his talents as a professional producer and recording engineer on dozens
of a cappella albums, as well as for a variety of other independent artists.
Jeff has been singing and performing in vocal ensembles from a very early age,
and is a co-founder of Boston's pro a cappella group, FOCS (Five O'Clock
Shadow). He holds a music degree from Boston's pioneering Berklee College of
Music, and has given many lectures & workshops on the music industry and careers
in music, as well as his colorful life in the studio and with Rockapella. He's
happy to be joining The A Cappella Project to share the love!

These two accomplished professionals will be offering an open session for all
singers attending the clinic. This open session will feature break-out sessions
with each clinician on a number of topics, and also a practice session for an a
cappella pick-up group composed of the clinic participants that will perform
that evening at the Showcase. Participants will include the three summers-only a
cappella groups sponsored by Project-Philly composed of undergraduate and adult
a cappella enthusiasts. Arrangements for the pick-up group will be provided by
and taught by Shawn Pearce of Value Vocals A Cappella Arrangements
(www.valuevocals.com).

After the open session, Engelhardt and Thacher will provide a live on-stage
clinic for Project-Philly's three summers-only groups and up to five additional
a cappella groups from high schools, universities, and semi-professional
post-collegiate backgrounds. Each group will have thirty minutes to perform and
have their work critiqued by the clinicians.

At 7:30 PM, several of these groups and the pick-up group will take the stage in
our Summer Showcase concert. This concert is free and open to the public, with
donations to Project-Philly's scholarship fund greatly appreciated.

This clinic and showcase is an educational offering of The A Cappella Project -
Philadelphia, a non-profit charitable organization promoting contemporary a
cappella music in the Greater Philadelphia area (www.projectphilly.org).
Resources for this event are also being provided by Value Vocals A Cappella
Arrangements (www.valuevocals.com).

The 2nd Annual Summer Clinic and Showcase is open to the public. Participants
can attend only the open session and observe the group clinics, bring their
entire a cappella group for coaching, and sing in the evening concert - or any
combination thereof! Registration can be completed online at

Hi A Cappella Fans!!

As part of the production team, I'm proud to present to you VoCAL Nation (www.vocal-nation.com), a contemporary a cappella festival, coming to the DC area on July 13-14.

VoCAL Nation is hosted by CASA (the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America), and will be co-presented by Strathmore.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, July 13th at 8 pm with the CAL Showcase, featuring 8 semi-professional vocal groups from across the nation. The evening will be hosted by WAMA award winning vocal band, Cartoon Johnny. Groups will perform popular jazz, R&B, pop and rock songs, all without instruments. The Showcase will take place at Arlington Temple United Methodist Church at 1835 N. Nash Street, Arlington, just steps from the Rosslyn Metro Station.

Saturday, July 14th will include classes from 9 am until 5 pm taught by some of the best in the business, including Barry Carl, the original bass singer from Rockapella. All classes will be hosted at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD. Attendees will be treated to performances throughout the day.

The festival will close out at Strathmore with the main event - the Professional Showcase, at 8 pm, featuring Cluster and Afro-Blue.

Accounted as one of the best vocal groups in Italy, Cluster was founded in 2004 by five young musicians, who were studying at the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory of Music in Genoa. The group has spend the last 6 years touring Italy and Europe with their unique style that combines elements of jazz, pop, and fusion. This is their first visit to the U.S.

The Afro Blue Vocal Band is a 10-member vocal jazz a cappella ensemble that was formed at Howard University in Washington DC. The ensemble has won multiple awards, performed alongside names such as Smokey Robinson, Geri Allen, and Bobby McFerrin. They have performed in venues that include The Smithsonian Museum, The Warner Theater, and The Kennedy Center. Most recently, the group appeared on the NBC show “The Sing-Off” where they finished 4th out of 16 a cappella groups.

The concert will also feature opening performances by The Glue, of Switzerland, and local group, Vox Pop!

All access passes and concert tickets are still available. Visit http://vocal-nation.com/ for more information or to purchase tickets.

Info on the Mid-Atlantic Regionals:  http://www.harmony-sweepstakes.com/dc.html

The Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival is a celebration of a cappella music of all genres.  Over the last 28 years, hundreds of vocal groups from around the country have participated in regional competitions held in eight cities. The winning group from each regional is flown to California to perform in front of celebrity judges and a sold out house of enthusiastic a cappella fans at the National Finals.

The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Regional is already looking to be an exceptional event - we've already received applications from some talented groups.  The event will be hosted by last year's winners - the award winning GQ - a young ladies quartet that took the Mid-Atlantic by storm last Spring winning both the Mid-Atlantic Regional Harmony Sweepstakes and the Sing Strong  A Cappella Idol contest.

Mark you calendar, encourage groups to apply, and get your tickets early - the event always sells out.

The Tone Rangers
The Tone Rangers delight audiences from coast to coast with a dynamic
blend of tight harmonies, inventive arrangements and keen wit. In a few
choreographed minutes, the Tone Rangers propel through 900 years of
Western music--from Gregorian chant to classic rock to TV theme songs--in
a fresh approach to contemporary a cappella music and comedy. Nominated
for seven Wammies by the Washington Area Music Association in the past
four years, the Tone Rangers were voted the Best A Cappella Group four
consecutive years (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and won Best A Cappella
Recording for "We Think You Love Us (But We've Been Wrong Before)." They
were also national finalists in the 2002 Harmony Sweepstakes (the
Superbowl of a cappella), and three-time winners of Mid-Atlantic "Audience
Favorite" and "Best Arrangement" awards.

The Chromatics
The Chromatics are a unique high-energy vocal band that delights audiences
with a combination of outrageous originals, crazy covers, melodic insights
into modern life, and a smattering of science songs. The Internet,
television, and fast food - they're all subjects of Chromatics originals.
The Chromies have taken their astronomically-correct a cappella songs, a
project called AstroCappella, from Palm Springs, to Orlando, from Las
Vegas to New York, and their CD has flown in space! Really! The Chromatics
have presented their "down-to-earth" repertoire at the Kennedy Center's
Millennium Stage, at various First Nights, the Atlantic Region Harmony
Sweepstakes, festivals, and concert series.

Besides being a tremendous amount of quartetting and fraternal fun:
It's a great way
to meet and network with many ambitious, discerning quartters.
It's a great way to super charge your repertory with popular championship arrangements

MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL HARMONY SWEEPSTAKES
Sat.  Feb. 23, 2013, 7:30pm
The Birchmere, Alexandria, VA     www.birchmere.com

Info on the Mid-Atlantic Regionals:  http://www.harmony-sweepstakes.com/dc.html

The Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival is a celebration of a cappella music of all genres.  Over the last 28 years, hundreds of vocal groups from around the country have participated in regional competitions held in eight cities. The winning group from each regional is flown to California to perform in front of celebrity judges and a sold out house of enthusiastic a cappella fans at the National Finals.

The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Regional is already looking to be an exceptional event - we've received applications from some amazing groups.
