You are right, it is a stupid limitation of 32 bit Microsoft operating
systems, only 4GB can be addressed (including video RAM, etc...). The amount
of free memory that a program is able to use is different from PC to PC.
You need 64 OS to access all available (or choose 32 bit Linux, Apple ...).

XP will recognize only some 3.6 GB of RAM. Installing more than 4 GB makes
no sense. May cause problems too. Correct me. please, if I am wrong.
