G7 is not big on exporting or saving in other file formats. Not in one step
anyway. The Save As allows ascii tab, G7, Sibelius 2, and as a midi file.
Anything else you need a version of Sibelius with more export options or
you save parts of a page or an entire page or file as graphics. The PC version
does not save directly as a PDF but the Mac version does. The PC you save as
various common graphics file formats, then you could import that into other
programs then make a pdf from your other programs or with a pdf convertor.
The default G7 file format does not support cut and paste with the clipboard
except with Sibelius programs that may recognize its file formats.
I will call Sibelius and ask about importing G7 say into other Sibelius
versions. Since you can save as a Sibelius 2 file. I will have to check my pdf
makers and see what graphics files they import also.
One can save as a MS Tiff, Adoble Illistrutor, Corel Draw and many other
graphics file formats so having to save as graphics then into my pdf editors and
convertors is no big deal for me. One can wish the PC G7 saved direct to pdf
like Guitar Pro does. I assume full versions of Sibelius allow saving to pdf.

Great review Tim...looks like I need to dig my G7 back out and get it
reinstalled. I rebuilt a new computer a while back and never reinstalled it.

I was using it to scan sheet music and turn it into tab and a little midi work
as well.

I was needing some chord diagrams for a project a few weeks ago. Sounds like I
could have used G7. Can you copy and paste or use some other method for getting
the chord diagram into another program?

I decided to turn my bookcase full of guitar lesson handouts into some
guitar instructional books and compared and tried out many different music
software programs. The only guitar specific one I use all the time is Guitar
Pro. I wanted to do things Guitar Pro does not do.
After trying many software demos including Progression and Finale
Guitar/Songwriter ete. I purchased Sibelius G7 from Guitar Center. Just recently
discontinued, I have found no bugs in using G7 the past few months. The built in
Help File is good and I printed out the entire PDF Manual and put it in a
binder.
Sibelius still offers phone tech support if you get stuck trying to figure
out how to do something. I called twice got through right away and got a quick
answer. G7 lets you create custom chord diagrams and save them as a library, if
the built in ones do not meet your needs.
G7 supports alternative tunings, and all the standard guitar notation and
tab layouts into rhythm guitar slashes. G7 does support real time midi input
from a midi guitar or keyboard. If you do not mind printing out the PDF manual
G7 is a great addition to your software library.
I am using it on my Vista Desktop. G7 works on all versions of Windows since
win 98 and also many Mac versions also. Comes with one program disc, an
installation guide. a pdf manuals disc and comes with guitar samples for
playback purposes. I do not know if you can get it direct from Sibelius anymore,
but my Guitar Center Kontakt Edition was on sale when I got it a few months ago.
G7 has been out for about 7 yrs now. You can find many reviews online.
I am hoping Guitar Pro 6 finally has real time midi guitar input. For my
projects I use different pieces of music software, because different programs
all do certain things best and do things other programs do not do. G7 and Guitar
Pro are a very nice combination for composing, recording, performing and
teaching.

Jeff and everybody else, does Progression support
realtime recording from midi, with the correct timing?

I use Guitar Pro 5, but it can record only note by note,
rhythmic value has to be set manually. Finale can record
midi-guitar correctly, but it is not so easy to use.

Maybe Progression is the best today for guitar composers?
Are there many layout options?
