I just upgraded computers and I have Total Physical Memory of 12,288.00 MB. I
have 32 bit XP, and I'm crashing all over the place. Today, hopefully, I'll be
re doing my system with 64 bit XP. 32 bit only allows me to use half of my
memory capability.

which is amazingly modelling lots of stringed and non-stringed
instruments.
On their website you can download demos of Tassman (known
from the early VST soft-synth days) and other fantastic stuff.
Their software is not a huge, 100 GB collection of samples.
They use modelling algorythms, therefore only a few MB to
install/run.

XP will recognize only some 3.6 GB of RAM. Installing more than 4 GB makes
no sense. May cause problems too. Correct me. please, if I am wrong.
You are right, it is a stupid limitation of 32 bit Microsoft operating
systems, only 4GB can be addressed (including video RAM, etc...). The amount
of free memory that a program is able to use is different from PC to PC.
You need 64 OS to access all available (or choose 32 bit Linux, Apple ...).

So much I know, Vista will run with more than 3.6 GB RAM.
If you have all the driver you need, this could be a solution.
It will also run with 64 bits, no matter what application.
XP 64 bit may ba also problematic, if the software if not
perfectly adapted to a 64 bit system.
I use now XP 32, but some of my programs exploit the benefits
of the dual 64 bit processor I have. For music it´s quite OK.
BTW: It makes no sense to overload an old computer with RAM.
Newer, faster RAM chips, faster busses and SATA make the
new PCs faster. An AMD dual or quad CPU is cheap today.
I am satisfied with the one I have.
Yes you're right. I plan to re install XP 64bit
And by the way, thanks for answering my post. I appreciate it.
