Yiassou, Manos,

I don't know, but I added a subject line to this reply, so that others
might notice your question. Good luck!

As I understood it, the issue is that piezos don't sound convincing
when you dial up a patch that models an electric guitar.... but the
piezo sounds even more convincing than the GK if you're using a patch
that models an acoustic. That's how I remember it, anyway.

There was a software update available that adjusted the VG-99's
response to piezos. I haven't tried it because I don't use piezos.

If you want to switch between VST instruments using a pedalboard
my free VST plugin could help:
   http://evenharmonic.com/hmt1

This will work with most VST hosts, but not Ableton Live - there is a
limitation with the way Live handles the output of MIDI plugins which
means all the data ends up on one channel, more details on that here:
   http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=126598
and here:
   http://evenharmonic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35&start=10#p195

Works fine in Cubase though.

For Guitar Rig - I'm pretty sure you can change presets using midi,

I don't know how you would be able to change songs though...

hope that helps,
Costas

I already do this with Ableton Live. But the "loop" thing can also be
viewed this way:
each clip is a song backing track.

Thank you. Have in mind that initially i wouldn't be using loop. I may use
later, but now I need the easy patch switching capability described, between
guitar rig patches, to VST instruments, to another Guitar rig patch + some vst
effects, etc. and then switch between songs.

Anyone tried this?

The answer is Ableton Live 8. Hands down. Period.

You may need an FCB1010 for foot cueing but you'll find that
this does the business the right way and is the most hands free for a
guitarist.

Hi:

I use my midi guitar gear at the studio exclusively and I'm thinking of using
it for live too. So, Now I have a problem, since I wouldn't know what program
to use. so the question is:

What is the best program to play live considering the following? :

1) I use 'regular' guitar' through programs like Guitar Rig/Revalver + other
Vst effects.
2) I also use midi guitar (I have Axon AX50), so I would need to run Vst
instruments.
3) Different organizations exist, but usually, a Guitar Rig user would have all
patches in banks organized for songs. Now, lets say a song contains a few
Guitar Rig Patches and a few VST instruments. The idea would be to switch
between them as easily as possible.
4) Also, the idea is to switch between different scenes as described in 3) as
easily as possible. In other words, to switch between songs scenes easily
without going to the computer and make "Open....".

I know many programs that could do this, but all have different problems. For
example, using cubase and changing the track focus would be a solution, but
what about when I need a new song? And if I use 2 presets of Guitar rig, I
would need to have 2 instances of Guitar rig, so it is not good.

What do you think it is best for this?

Do you understand and agree the way of organization im describing here?

All comments and opinions would be appreciated.

Danny Bullo

PD: I have a nice midi pedal boad. Behringher FCB1010, so obviosly, this 'ideal
program' im looking for would be midi - remote controleld.

I don't know if this is spam or not. Anyway, if you want to search all
of Craigs List for, say, "Ztar" then just put "ztar craig's list" or
"ztar craigslist" into Google.

Hello,
it seems that my GI-20 responds to short midi messages only if they are sent
through the standard 5-pin MIDI connection but not through USB.
Bulk dump and load instead work without any trouble through USB.
Did anyone ever experienced such a behaviour?

Thanks

The Carvin NS-1 (nylon synth) is absolutely beautifully constructed, with some
custom options available. It has the GraphTech piezo inserts. I really really
enjoyed every aspect of the guitar. Aestetically it was utterly stunning.
Sonically it matched the good looks. The piezo sound was very nice. The tracking
was awesome. I was using the VG-88 (I think...) Whichever one has all the
guitar/amp models.

Check it out, it WELL within your price range. I paid $1450 2 yrs ago.
Beautiful guitar, nice case, highly recommended.

Sonically it matched the good looks. The piezo sound was very nice. The
tracking was awesome. I was using the VG-88 (I think...) Whichever one has all
the guitar/amp models.

Check it out, it WELL within your price range. I paid $1450 2 yrs ago.
Beautiful guitar, nice case, highly recommended.

Hello,

I am looking to buy a classical guitar with MIDI capability. I have seen the
Godin Multiac Concert but would prefer an acoustic classical guitar if the MIDI
capability is good. I am also being offered a Ramirez 2CWE with RMC MIDI system

and there are some folks who like what the piezo imparts
granted perhaps not to presets written to emulate standard pickups
and rigs
but you can create great sounds that FEATURE the piezo character and I
don't mean brittleness

I think it is far from a decided fact that folks using VG99s don't
like piezos
and I for one have gotten very satisfying results with them, I know
others have as well
it is a valid point that for some sounds and some players mag hex may
be preferred
but the piezo approach has fans as well

I assume djordje also has mag equipped Hex gtr(s)
(he has been doing this a good while...)
his Q was in 2 parts

will the existing piezos work with a Gk compliant preamp?
yes they will and LR Baggs has info about doing it

are there any noise concerns with using the piezo equipped vibrato?
yes there are, my understanding is the Ibanez unit is better than
many but
I don't have alot of direct experience with that exact unit so I
can't verify

as to the sound, baggs has changed their pickups since Godin used
them on the LGT which I agree was brittle and noise prone and
obviously not as good
as an RMC equipped unit, supposedly they are using something similar
to the baggs hex model that gets good reviews in the ibanez so I
think it needs
to be judged on it's own merit (or lack) not on what previous baggs pu's
may have sounded

I like the way some baggs pu's sound especially the older non hex units
but I haven't played any of the current models recently
some folks really like the fishman for sound like whats in the parker
I'm a pretty big RMC fan and I also use some Graphtech pu's
so I've not been looking at others for awhile
I say get the guitar and give them a listen and if you like the sound
THEN look into adding a hexpander...because...well... you can ;-)

That's only an issue if you limit yourself to using presets only. It's true that
some presets sound significantly better when using a magnetic hex pickup.

However, the VG99 has elaborate tone shaping facilities, e.g. there are about 10
locations in the signal chain for eq/tone control and you can manipulate the
'string attack' and control piezo 'quack', etc.

I had a good sound/tone from piezos even before Roland released the special
piezo patch (which is essentially an eq curve/filtering).

You'll be missing a lot if you limit yourself to using unmodified presets only!

FYI, I have midi guitars with magnetic and piezo hex pickups.

You should know though that using of the VG99 with piezos, as
extensively detailed on VG99 forums, is less than satisfying.

Though the last upgrades of the VG99 operating system did improve
things, the sounds of VG99 emulation through piezos is unsatisfying
and very brittle sounding...

I had a GK2A on a PRS Custom/Special 24 for awhile, and it worked fine and
allowed use of the trem.

Here's a pic of my PRS (it was sold, so I can't measure the spacing) to
compare the bridge-to-pickup spacing to your SE:

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone here has sucessfully attached a GK pickup on a PRS SE

trem so I'm not too concerned about loosing that functionality.

Hi and Welcome, I have to agree in that much prefer my guitar that has rnc over
ll baggs for tone too in that I feel rnc sounds more natural. Like the pizeo in
the Parker Midifly and Carvin Sh575 over the Godin with LL Baggs that I have.
The Ghost System sounds pretty good too. Dave

I do not know the guitar you are referring to, and a quick google search did me
know good. I am assuming that this guitar has a Double Edge Pro bridge with the
L.R. Baggs X-Inserts in each saddle???

If so, it will work fine with the GraphTech Hexpander. Keep in mind that the
piezos need string tension over the crystals (the center, where the string
lies.) in order to sense the strings vibrations. I have L.R. baggs piezos on 2
of my guitars. There is a bit of rumble with the trem but it is very subtle. I
take care of the w/ some EQ 75-80Hz @ -4-6dB... Even that is unnecessary, but I
do it it anyway.

You will have a hard time trying to connect the Baggs inserts to the Hexpander.
Baggs' use a single bare wire per x-insert. The hexpander uses push on
connectors. I can hook you up with a wiring kit that will allow you to simply
solder some custom GrapTech leads to your PCB that should be mounted on your
bridges tone block.

Or, if you like, you can ship me your bridge and I'll take care of all the
wiring for you. I can also supply you with the Hexpander and Acoustiphonic (and
install that in your axe).

Shoot me an email, if you have any more questions.

Thanx,

Sorry man, I must have missed this post of yours...

I highly prefer the GT's over the Baggs' because I can literally feel the
strings vibrating in my teeth. Call me crazy, but my 2 guitars that have the
Baggs transducers irritate the crap out of me. THey are also a bit more linear
in their dynamic response. I have noticed this myself and has also been
confirmed by fellow piezo guru Richard McClish from RMC. The Baggs' have a very
compressed dynamic response. They still sound pretty darn good IMHO, they just
don't feel good to me personally. Not to mention they are ever so slightly
narrower which gives me a bit more metal left on the saddles after milling.

Not a single customer of mine has complained about the teeth phenomenon, perhaps
it's just me... I still sell them (far more than the GT's) for my Ibanez Edge
Pro piezo retro fit kits. These are more common because it is entirely DIY and
does not require me to mill the saddles. (and is much cheaper...)

Here is a video of my CNC (extreme close up) milling an Ibanez Edge III saddle
to accommodate the custom GT piezos that I use.

And here is a boring video before I had it all tweaked and ready to run...

my understanding is the piezos are by LR baggs
and would be similar to their hex piezos
they offer simple circuits diagrams to interface
the pickups w/ Graphtech hexpander so it shouldn't be a problem

Shotgunn and All,

I will probably buy an Ibanez RG 520 X-JB used, but not
sure if the piezos of its Floyd-Rose bridge will do the job
with VG-99 and midi. Any experiences?
Which hex preamp should be used, if any at all?
Are there problems with the piezos when palm muting
or heel dumping is needed?
