chang's version has a four channel voltage adder. I've made a few more like
this since. Each attenuator is bi-directional (also inverts the input) and
it mixes with the bank output through an opamp summer, so the secondary
input acts as an offset to the bank output.

I wouldn't so it with just a passive (resistor) summer). i've jotted down
something quick - this should do it. the one i did for him is a bit more
complex, with internal trimpots to assure zero in the center of the pot
travel.
