Hello MONEYPIT!
MONEYPIT has actually grown in the past few weeks, adding Jamie Robertson
(www.robertsonics.com) and Paul Santo. The goal is, of course, to find all
the Mellotron owners in New England and get them out here (if they want to
be). We've got Jerry Korb to the north. Ray C. is still out in the
central MA area last I heard, but it's been a while. Mr. Merbler defected
and moved to Florida. And Gregory (some may remember the "kitworks" e-mail
address) was thinking about selling his machine, but it's been several
years since anyone has heard from him. Am I missing anyone who's in New
England and owns a tape replay device?
On Saturday Jamie and I went over to visit Paul's somewhat sickly EMI M400
(#E4/103S). Well, I did what I could, but, yep, it needs to be Leeted.
The details...

(If anyone has any additional ideas about how to fix up this machine (aside
from squaring the innards), please holler. I did about the best I could to
adjust it, and I'm not quite sure what to do about the one pinch roller
that was amazingly stubborn. I know the best bet is to get that thing
squared up first (I gave Paul several contacts for doing that work), *then*
get it adjusted.)
Paul Santo, by the way, helps out Aerosmith with some keyboard work. He is
currently producing/recording a local band, and he recently helped to
record Ringo Starr's latest (in addition to touring with Ringo). Oh---add
in a Latin Grammy, please (cool!). Paul's definitely busy (usually in the
studio 12 hours a day), and he was lucky to have some time on Saturday for
Jamie and me to head over to see what could be done with the EMI machine.
Jamie's got a very nice little studio tucked away in a quiet suburb not too
far west of Boston. He works at home, so it's tempting to pick up the six
string and have a go. Right now Jamie's M400 is in pieces awaiting a
refinished cabinet, which is due in soon (possibly this week). Then it'll
be a matter of putting the jigsaw puzzle back together again. Sweet.
